I think students would show up to games in Cleveland and Cincinnati. A huge amount of our student body is from both of those areas. If it was early enough in the season, you could even make it before school started in Athens... I would also think the AD would offer a bus (like they did for recent bowl games and the MAC Championship in Detroit)

I agree though, the opponent is CRUCIAL. It would need to be someone big-time like a Wisconsin. And I still would rather just play a game in Athens...

AS, then the students surely aren't going to Cleveland so why would anyone talk about a game up there?

And, BTC, you are too funny! What was the score last time we played those blue pussy cats? Oh, that would be 20-3 last year? They probably think we don't play football.

I simply said if people are thinking outside the box and want to see a money game played as a home game close to Athens, this game makes as much or more sense than anything in Cleveland (except the OSwho).

You would have to find the right opponent for games played away from Athens. I'd say play UK at Paul Brown in cincy. That would definitely generate some ticket sales from the KY fans that line in NKY and there would probably be a big Alum turnout. Plus, is cincy closer to Athens than cleveland which might get you more students. I think you get a total way over 40k for that game.
Most people don't even realize UK plays football

Well then that's embarassing as they laid the wood to us last time we played.

It's time we realize.......we have had enough success(still need that MACC Championship) that we are not going to be a 10 dollar seat.

First end foremst......no student should ever be turned away from a game. This is an experience they should never have taken from them. If that means the student allotment goes up.......and the sale price for alum and fans go up........so be it.

This program has grown well beyond a first half and band performance, I love the 110 but they are not the reason I attend games now days. Today the are the desert not the entree.

At some point if demand beyond the students warrant, perhaps 5k more are added.......and we continue to grow as things progress.

It appears as if we have a two edged sword here. We want to bitch about wanting to be a big time program but we also bitch about pricing--with the feeling we are entitled to maintain cheap tickets as we had to deal with all the years we sucked, yet still supported.

Can't have it both ways.

We are talking 68,000 seat stadium here. Not that many people would make that trip to play anyone but OSU

I meant those fans, most UK die hard blue fans in that area are basketball fans for Kentucky and are Scarlet and Grey or some other color in the fall. I'm well aware they have beat us 2 of last 3.

I disagree. I consider 40k "many" people and I think we could do that against some like a Wisconsin. I'd really be hoping for more. We see strong OHIO crowds at Akron, Kent and the MAC Tournament for basketball. I think this would be seen as even more of an "event" for casual OHIO fans/alums than the MAC tournament.

40K is not going to viable economically. 1st, say we do get a good turnout, remember they are NOT paying, 2nd, you are paying a facility rental fee and their employees. 3. You will have increased security cost. 4. You will have your own travel cost. 5. You will NOT get concessions or parking revenue. 5. At a neutral site that team thats the bigger draw is going to take a payout, which is what scuttled the Va Tech deal, they werent playing and having their fans generate the revenue and not get anything in return So an extra 16,000 people will not make this work. If it worked, everyone would do it!

I have to completely disagree. I haven't missed an Akron vs OHIO or Kent vs OHIO for about the last 8 years. While the OHIO crowd compares nicely to the home crowd--none have really been that large--doubtful to be even 5,000 with very cheap seats. What would draw an alum to shell out $70, who hasn't been to an Akron or Kent or MAC Championship game to see someone other than OHIO vs ND or OSU? I beg 70's era alums to come with me and few seem to care less about the Bobcats. Perhaps OHIO is creating faithful football fans with the more recent grads but there are decades of grads lost in the wilderness with NO HOPE of ever getting revved up.

There are a lot of other names in College Football that would bring people out. Part of why OHIO is not trying it may be that it makes enough revenue at home to the point where it does better than a neutral site game. NIU was playing in Soldier Field because they couldn't get fans to come to DeKalb. Boise State did play Virginia Tech in DC. Could we try something like playing UNC in Charlotte with UNC bringing the lionshare of the fans?

The biggest crowd you can even get in Peden is only 26,000. Almost all of the Saturday games these days are 23,000-24,000. Where would we have room to fit the fans of a serious traveling road team? The school becomes a BCS buster in football and fans from every MAC school would want to be in Athens. I do see a good argument for having the capacity to get at least 30,000 in the stadium someway.

I am a broken record on this one for a good reason: MACC MACC MACC

Get one of those and you have a team that's in the top 25, maybe nicely in there. Then you have OHIO's interest for a nameworthy opponent in a large Cleveland venue.

No MACC, no nothing.

It is time for a MACC.

WSJ: Student apathy ain't about the wifi

http://www.wsj.com/articles/what-do-college-football-fans...

Old Decision Makers: "Wait, people younger than 25 years old are human beings — not stereotypical screen-tapping cyborgs we've built up in our brains to justify our nostalgia for times past and for whom we try to create niche marketing schemes — and enjoy things like clean restrooms and good affordable seats? HOLY CRAP! Next you'll tell me they have hopes, dreams and feelings!"

I just was at ESPN, and laughed... They have ticket prices at which you apparently can buy tickets for various Ohio games. The current prices:
http://espn.go.com/college-football/team/_/id/195/ohio-bo...

Marshall - 254 available from $32
SE Louisiana - 75 available from $25
@Minnesota - 1,459 available from $23
@Akron - 87 available from $29
Miami (OH) - 81 available from $40
@Bowling Green - 22 available from $31
Kent State - 79 available from $32 (Tuesday game)
Ball State - 81 available from $32 (Tuesday game)

so... if thee are to be believed, the cheapest game is at Minnesota, and two of the most expensive games are the Tuesday night games? Does anyone believe this?

Yes, at this time on the secondary market. Just goes to show, just because a team belongs to a big conference doesn't mean they are a big draw.

While seeing the Minnesota tickets cheap was funny, it wasn't surprising. The part that made me laugh was the $32 prices for mid-week games, when the list price of individual tickets for them is only $15, and when a lot of people who have season tickets won't be going, and would no doubt take less than $15 for them.

Those are what people are asking, not what they are getting. It also includes the fees and other costs that go to Stub Hub, so the seller isn't actually getting that much.
