Strong safety needs help...and I'd be very surprised to see Scipio as a starter. If we're that desperate we should move Alexander back to safety or go with Davis and Jones.

Scipio played well in 2012 as a true Freshman, but missed the entire 2013 season with an injury, and played only sparingly this year with an entirely different injury, so it's difficult to know what he is capable of. I put him there because, before his injury, he was the backup to Carpenter at nickle, ahead of Jones in the chart. Quallen is another that was injured for most of the year this year, but who started out ahead of the others.

In any case, my list is just a starting point for discussion. I'm sure the coaches have a better idea than I do who will end up where, and of course, injuries may be a factor.

For that matter, if Carpenter returns, he may be the starter there.

We're playing two LGs but no RG? (kidding..needs correcting)

Pruehs started all year at RG but is a back up next year.

Overall, I'm not convinced. What Casper71 would say.

Of course, we're all familiar with Antonio Gates, who was a all-MAC performer in basketball and a current offensive star in the NFL. Can you name another former All-MAC basketball player now playing in the NFL?
All BAers are stumped? Hint: O-line for Colts.

He only made 3 tackles in 2012, and I would assume those were special teams. I don't ever remember him playing on defense. This year he played quite a bit towards the end of the season in nickel/dime but registered almost no stats. So I see almost no evidence that he would be in the running to start at that position.

I guess I see Davis and Jones at safety with a dose of Quallen and Scipio. If Carpenter is back he will also be in the mix.

I was thinking we'll be trying to confuse the foes with an unbalanced line. ;)
(ty, fixed it)

As for Pruehs, yes, that's a question mark. The year before Wood was the starter there, but he was out for an injury. Thus, the Bobcats return 6 starters on the line. They can't all start. My thought is that they will move Pruehs back to center, where they originally had him, and try to redshirt him, and then have a 3 year starter at Center when Powell is gone, but who knows? Maybe he'll start, and they will move someone else to center.

I don't claim any secret knowledge. I do recall that, like AJ, Scipio was given a scholarship before fall camp ended in 2012 (his freshman year), so I assume he's a player. I know that before he was hurt he was ahead of Jones, and I think Quallen was ahead of Davis, so that was why I put it the way I did. You could be right that it will end up Davis and Jones, with Quallen, Scipio, and Macer behind them. For that matter, we might see one of the incoming freshmen, Hagen or M. Williams, work into the lineup next year.

As another idea, what about moving Bass to Safety? He seems to play better facing the QB and reacting, rather than locking in one on one, and he's an excellent tackler.

That's an average of about 13 starts per position. With this much returning experience, I think this team should be comparable to the 2009-12 teams.
LC - what was the average starts per position going into this year?

If he really was the best player in Canada, I want to see what he can do, and I want to see it early. The big question in my mind is how quickly does he pick up pass protection. AJ really picked it up quickly for a freshman.

Ouellette & Irons (that sounds like bad network TV legal drama) could be an awesome 1-2 punch for the next several years. I don't even know how we work Papi White into that either...maybe as a slot/wingback type guy?

LC - what was the average starts per position going into this year?

I went back and computed it as closely as I could, and I came up with 5. Fifteen starters for the first game had 4 or less prior starts. It was a very young team.

Yes, exactly. Looking at it another way, the 2015 team should start out with as much experience as the 2014 team had after about 8 games, and the 2014 team was clearly better by the late season.

Say Pruehs is redshirted. Something dependent upon Wood returning better than before his injury. Now that would be sweet. I still don't think Mr. Gibbons has had the chance to build himself to where he was headed before his injury. Hopefully they will both have the chance to show their potential. Now picture practices with Pruehs on the scout team. Coach Williams trying to get coach Johnson to rein in Pruehs so he can have a DL for games.

Just my guess at the offense next year. Assuming some of the talented freshman from 2014 and 2015 class will move up on the depth chart earning some playing time.

Offense
QB - Vick, Spraque, Windham, Duckworth
RB - Oulette, Irons, D. Brown
WR - S. Smith, Rodriguez, Belack
WR - Cope, Brunis, Ball
WR - Reid, Walker, C. Brown
TE - Mangen, Morgan
Slot RB/WR - Patterson, P White, Walker

LT - McQueen, Lowery
LG - Lucas, Z. Adams
C - Powell, Pruehs
RG - Wood, Gibbons
RT - Watson, McCray

I believe that I read that Carpenter decided to call it quits. Something about having three surgeries in two years or something along those lines.

Baring injury, I take issue with anyone that thinks Jake Pruehs is going to sit behind anyone on this roster at C or G. He came in from an elite HS program and started every game as a freshman. if you think he's going to sit you're respectfully mistaken.

Sean. I am a huge fan of Pruehs, but, he started right away because of injury to some good players. Wood also started as a freshman, similarly because of injury to players ahead of him. If some hope for him to redshirt that hope might be so that we might see him as a 5th year senior and we think trading his 2nd year in the program for that 5th year is a great deal. In addition Mr. Pruehs could then arrange his studies across an additional year or use the extra year for grad school.

Regarding the WR group, we have 3 strong guys that I think are the clear starters: Cope, Reid and Smith. In fact, I think these guys outperformed the older guys throughout this year.

I implore the coaches to keep this group on the field for most of the game. None of this swapping in and out groups of receivers!

Well, that's a peeve I mentioned..a facet of not playing the right guys. (Bates at qb--seriously? 177 lbs at the goal line. etc)

You don't want to see Walker or Brunis anymore, and not Cameron Wilson?

Sure! But perhaps on 4 WR sets or in certain formations. I don't think it does anyone any good to keep Smith/Cope/Reid (or all 3!) on the sidelines for an entire offensive possession, which is something this staff is notorious for.

It appears that we are still recruiting for next year as 2 additions this week alone.
I wonder what under class men won't be returning for 1 reason or another.
