I heard Marshall is bringing its marching band to this year's game in Athens. I think Toledo was the last visiting band. It should add to what will be an electric atmosphere that night. I am guessing that game will be an advanced sellout. With it being the first home game with the students on campus I am guessing at least 7,000-8,000 will show up.

I wonder where Marshall's band will sit?

That game is going to be crazy. First home game I believe against a good rival with good traveling fans. Might be one of the best atmospheres peden has ever seen.

I remember a while back when Marshall brought their band for a halftime show. It was sad; continuous chants of "high school band" as they did their choreographed walking across the field, reading their music all the while on their lyres on their instruments. They made the 110 look even more awesome than usual.

While I like the 110 MUCH better than the Marshall band, I will say yelling "high school" as a cheer when they are performing is, well, kind of high school. ;-(

The first time I ever saw the Marshall band in person was the 2009 Little Caesars Pizza Bowl.

It was bad man. Really bad. Calling that a high school band does a disservice to a lot of quality high school bands.

Anyway, that atmosphere is going to be AWESOME. I am pumped. I hope we beat those guys.

I'm for treating the opposing band with respect. Not many schools send their bands to away games these days -- at least not very often. I think they should be made to feel welcome when the do show up, even if they are the worst college band in the nation. At the very least, a polite applause is in order after their performance. But, I'm old school. When at a visiting stadium I always take my hat off when they play their alma mater. Then, once the game starts I want to trounce them and I'll yell and scream like a maniac for my team -- OHIO!

That is great news. Does anyone have their tickets yet? I haven't seen mine show up in the mail.

Agree with OCF on this one. Opposing bands should be shown respect. Not very classy to boo them.

Glad to hear this band is attending.

To clarify, I've never booed Marshall's band. I'm not entirely opposed to the idea of booing an opposing band. However, Marshall's band falls below booing on the ridicule scale. I feel a sympathy clap would be more appropriate ridicule in this situation.

Kind of like when the O Zone cheered CMU when they made a free throw that one time.

I'm bummed the Marshall game is a night game. A day game with Marshall is usually a great Fall college football day in Athens.

Odds of an irate letter to The Post the Monday after the game regarding bad treatment of Marshall Band: 110%.

What I am reading is essentially..."If you bring your band to Athens, you had better have your 'A-game'"

That being said - modest "golf-claps" would be a more dignified response to a less than acceptable performance than booing or throwing things. Booing a bad band is kind of like cheering for an injury. Keep it classy, Bobcats!

Historically Marshall has had a respectable band but seems to have fallen off in recent years. I think they've brought in a new director who is turning the ship around, if I recall correctly. Hope to see an improved Herd band this year.

First of all - my post was intended as humor. To follow my attempt at humor...good form calls for us to "take a knee" and wait for the struggling musicians to make it off the field safely. Followed by polite, concerned applause. Avert your gaze, if necessary.

To follow up on my earlier post about chanting, "high school band," it was the o-zone who started it, and then pretty much the student section. I think them having to read their music was a major part of it. I don't remember anyone actually booing them, and there was some applause when they left the field, I'm thinking mostly because they left the field. I do hope this time their music is memorized, or I'm afraid it'll be much the same.

a great question about tickets. I was going to ask the same question as I haven't received mine yet. I have received single game tickets that I purchased from Marshall though for the Purdue game.

I believe Kent State was the last visiting band I believe in 2011.

I know their band isn't the 110, but I always like and appreciate the atmosphere that two bands create in a stadium. The Marshall fans ALWAYS cheer for the 110, I hope we can be classy too. It would be a sad day if Marshall fans outclass us! ;)

Their band should make this a great game experience. I will see them the week before at their first game. It's just too bad Purdue isn't bringing their band to Marshall.

They "Cheer" for the 110? Not. They applaud, yes. Even in Huntington.

Applaud is about all they do for the Herd band also - as they tremble with inferiority complex angst knowing the 110 is up next.....

One of my favorite games was the 2000 tilt against Marshall where we got the win to end the season. They bring fans and help create a real authentic college football atmosphere to go along with all that we do in Peden.

I know we like to rag on all things Herd but I don't know of many other teams that help add to our game atmosphere quite like they do with regularity. Athens looks like it always should on game day when they come to town. Can't say that about most other teams we play every year.

Well said. I can't argue with that. I'd also say most of the fans are pretty good folks.

+1

The Marshall rivalry is easily my favorite game of the year and that is in large part because of their fanbase.

I wish our MAC opponents had that kind of fanbase enthusiasm. A good crowd makes the gameday atmosphere so much more enjoyable.

It should be an electric crowd in Peden. I really hope we beat these guys.

Hoping that Marshall's band puts on its best-ever performance! Doing so simply would add to the greatness of that Game Day In Athens!

I'm hoping Marshall's band bus breaks down so they don't cut into the length of the 110's show.
