Ohio really has Marshalls number at home. I expect a close game. Ohio will give Marshall fits again. Marshall will have their usual turnover fest in Athens and Ohio will make them pay like always. Marshall should win on paper but the game is not being played on paper.
Does Marshall have an answer for Heitzmann? I don't know if paper would favor the Herd this year. They have a good O but Ohio has a good D. They have a crappy D up front and Ohio could shove the ball down Marshall's throat.

If we are talking expansion, increase permanent seating to at least 30K with overflow beyond that on Victory Hill. Redo the student side by leveling and building entirely new section complete with second deck. Face it, with the new Student Center going in, there is really nowhere else to expand but on the student side. If you are going to do it, do it right.

What would the annual payment be on such an stadium expansion? Would it be >$480,000?
I absolutely understand what you are saying in regards to cost. It would require an investment. What's next on the list for the Athletics project list? It looks like the $6 million academic center is nearing its goal. I know new Peden and Convo scoreboards are on the horizon but I am assuming that will be partially funded with campus pouring rights and advertising dollars.

The growth is fan interest in Ohio football over the past 10 years has been amazing. I think back to the late 80's and early 90's when I was a student vs. today and it's night and day. The enrollment when I graduated was around 18,000 and today it's over 23,000 on the Athens campus alone and still growing. This weekend alone they are expecting over 8,000 students to show up. I also believe graduates are staying more connected to the program thanks to a new media that's internet based.

How much would it cost to increase the capacity of the student side of the stadium? Would it be less expensive to demolish the current structure and erect a larger structure similar to what Miami did?

Back to the game! Beat Marshall!! 😊

From what I heard Ohio is who wanted to take the break. This game makes sense for both sides it a great rivalry. I agree with the post above this game should be played every year.
I'm happy that when it resumes we will have Miami and Marshall at home in alternating years.

Miami spent $8.8 million to build a 10,000 seat deck, concessions, bathrooms back in 2005. Construction costs haven't changed too much. Miami of course doesn't have fans so they didn't see an ROI. I'd think it would make sense to cut the existing stands in half to keep the entrances matched up and then slap a massive deck behind it with a pitch that places the students right on top of the field to make it super loud. Add ribbon boards between the two levels and it would look great on TV. It would make the program look more credible as a BCS Buster to recruits. I don't see how you can go wrong with it.

I agree! With the Convo and an expanded Peden, we'd be a key to any expansion plans of the P5 conferences. And with our expanding enrollment maybe we could make that move!

This series should not have breaks! I also feel that at some point Peden ultimately should have a 30,000 capacity with the hill for overflow. I know Ohio won't average 30,000 but for games against Marshall, Cincinnati, Homecoming, band day, parents weekend, Kansas, etc most seats would be filled. A larger capacity may also help get the Purdue types to Peden. An additional 6,000 seats at $40 a head for a P5 opponent could generate an additional $240,000 which could be used pay a higher guarantee to the visiting teams. It seems at least 2 or 3 times per season Peden's capacity is exceeded. Keep that up and at some point it will happen.
Do you have any idea how much a 6,000-seat expansion would cost and approximately how long it would take to cover the cost? The answers are likely central to Administration thinking about such an undertaking.

I agree with both Uncle Wes and Billy. I was being conservative with my 30K permanent seats with overflow on Victory Hill. Actually, I am not sure that the difference in cost between 30K and 35K or 40K is that big of an amount, meaning it will not be cheap either way. In the end it would nice to see at least 40K permanent seats with overflow beyond that on Victory Hill. Oh by the way, this will be a tough game and we will have to play way better than we did at Idaho. GO BOBCATS!

Move to the SEC. That would be the beginning of the end for Ohio State with an SEC program on its doorstep.

NO, NO, NO! Hell, Ohio already leads the MAC in basketball attendance and usually plays in front of an arena two-thirds empty. Ohio doesn't need to be playing in front of an extra 15,000-20,000 empty seats in football too. Peden is actually a perfect capacity for Ohio. It holds enough for large crowd turnouts and isn't cavernous when there is a small crowd.

If the cost were $8.8 million, and it was financed over 30 years at 5%, the payment would be $570,000 a year, which would most likely exceed the revenue from those seats. At the very least the money from the ticket sales from extra seats would be already spent, to pay for the stadium, and the same money can not be spent a second time, to increase guarantees. Worse, it's not at all clear to me that football will still be a big thing 30 years from now.

All you have to do is look as far and Akron, aka OPU, to see how much trouble you can get into if you expand unwisely, so caution would be advisable.

If this were to happen, it would not be financed on the promise of increased ticket revenues moving forward. It would be largely donations from both alumni groups and (hopefully) some corporate sponsors.

I don't want a cavernous feel in Peden, but I do not agree that Peden is currently the perfect size. I think the perfect size would be 30-40k. I have in the past said 35k to 40k but that was much more of a long-term outlook than an immediate need. I think where we are at now, I'd like to see it at 30k. I also would not want two decks on the student side. Keep it at 1 deck. That'll help a ton for those MACtion games where the students are basically the entire crowd.

I do find it funny that some like to write off these discussions as entirely unrealistic. Pre-Frank, the IPF was also a pipe dream as well. Since Frank, we've gotten the IPF and now the academic center. Things move quickly. This University has grown. This isn't 1995. We're not a program that cannot win a bowl game.

Billy I love the enthusiasm but I wouldn't go over 30,000 at this point. If Ohio averages 25,000 in a 30,000 seat stadium that's cool. It still looks good and feels full. You tack another 10,000 on that and it won't look or feel good at all.

If Miami's expansion was $8 million that seems doable (Assistant Director for Development head explodes upon reading the doable comment and then he mumbles "write me a check Gallia". 😊). I am guessing the Peden addition would be a little higher.

As I read through the coaches comments on Monday it appears that he is positive and upbeat after our showing.
Certainly the additional rest we have vs Marshall will help, would have been more beneficial if this game was later in the season, but we'll take it.
I am sure that last weeks win for Marshall was big as they beat a Big Ten School. Now there will more than likely be some let down, where as for our team it will be just the opposite.
Having said all this now we have to just play our game.

My keys to the game:
1) No turnovers
2) Force some turnovers on Marshall
3) Control the tempo
4) Establish success in the running game
5) Limit Marshall's big plays

I agree 100%. Turnovers have played major roll in past 2 Marshall games at Peden. Also time of possession stat will be huge.

How about no talk of expansion until Ohio consistently has to turn away fans because the game is sold out and there's nowhere to put them.
