The kid is majoring in "physical activity and sports coaching".

From reading about it, its comes off as a "keep them eligible " major.
I know a half dozen folks who make a comfortable living ($75,000 - $125,000+) either running town rec departments, travel soccer clubs, or coaching HS football. All played college sports and all have college degrees - though may not be as elite as say an engineering degree - though one does have an MBA - just decided he'd rather work with youth sports.

It's easy to forget this time of year but the portal works two ways.

Albin has made huge additions via the portal. Jacoby Jones and Wiglusz for starters. Many names on defense too.

I'm looking forward to seeing what type of talent we add this off-season.
Exactly, just look at last year. Not to mention the many others from previous years, Wizlusz, Jacoby Jones, Dontay Hunter, and all the JUCO kids etc.

DE Tristan Cox = Purdue
CB Walter Reynolds = Holy Cross
CB Miles Fleming = Minnesota
IOL Dane Jackson = North Texas
DE Kwame Sutton = Austin Peay
LB Kaci Seegars = Liberty
P Jared Wheatley = Vanderbilt
WR Christian Hilton = The Citadel

Next year is going to be tough to win some football games. Makes you wonder who we are losing in the coaching staff to see every offensive player that has received touches during the season has entered the portal or is graduating.

Call me pessimistic, but we are going to stink next year.
Or who is staying.
I really hope Ricky Hunt is the real deal.

He is!

Low blow
Doesn't mean its not true.
That’s right but you don’t have to say negative things just because it may be true. What fans?

Unfortunately, this is the new trend in college sports. I understand it is a different sport, but I applaud Boals and his ability over the past year to prevent any starter from jumping ship and hitting the portal.

The true Tim Albin Era is about to begin!!!
Got it. Albin and staff deserve no credit for the past two seasons.

You seem happy about it. Let's go Brandon, right?

Albin did a good job in the bowl game press conference to avoid two transfer portal related questions. See everyone, he's getting better at it LOL

Miami just lost Aveon Smith. These bowl games are going to be even more of a joke with the portal becoming more important.

It's almost as if he's seen the data on who the highest paid employees in the 500b higher education industry are.

Weird that the venn diagram of "It's totally rationale that our two highest employees are coaches" and "Sports coaching is a useless major" is a perfect circle.

That would leave only Adonis Williams as the only returning starter in the secondary for next season

This could be shaping up to be Ohio's first real taste of what the transfer portal is really all about, from the standpoint of losing guys. For the past 3-4 years, Ohio has pretty much avoided the type of losses that most of the rest of the MAC has had to endure for several years. I have family and friends who went to several other MAC schools and they've been ripped apart by the portal, while Ohio sat relatively untouched. This year that may finally change.

Sadly, not surprised to see Bangura in the portal.
No but crap.

Need a RB portal guy for at least a backup for Hunt.
Does anyone know if McCormick suffered a season ending injury or was just redshirted because we had Bangura and Allison?

WR Aramoni Rhone in the portal. That's our 3 WR lost to the portal.

I had high hopes for him out of HS but it never really panned out.

Tore or pulled his hamstring last spring just got back to running recently. Quintell Quinn should be the back up.

I didn't say it was a useless major.

I said its comes off as a "keep them eligible" major.

I don't recall any top coaches in any sport having a degree
in "coaching" or something like it.

Do you know of any ?

In my opinion, this degree provides limited job opportunities, unless you're
able to go pro.

That's not being negative.
Its stating a fact.

I forget if it was HBO or ESPN doing a piece where college athletes were
complaining that the colleges had them take classes that kept them eligible,
but that was about it.

They were showing the menial jobs a lot of college football and basketball players end up in.
The former athletes said they wished they knew then, what they know now.

And coaching is sort of like entertainment. A tiny fraction make millions and millions acting, singing,....where 90%+ of people in the profession make peanuts. Going into coaching for the money alone probably isn't the best plan.

What's his degree status? That might be our best hope. If he's one year or half year shy of a masters.

Otherwise, any and all P5 teams would be honored to have him.

The problem we face - and will continue to face - is we can offer playing time. That's just about it.

Is a 7th year at OU as fun as being a 2nd stringer at Ohio State? In light of being 1 of 2 starters returning, I'd say probably not.

Per above - know many who have made it a career from rec to college level and are earning a solid living.

"Top coaches" - if you mean a Coach K, Saban, etc. No. If you mean reached college or pro level and earning millions a year - Archie Miller is a quick answer - a better answer is take a look at OUr coaching staff, Phys ed., American Studies, Recreation, Leisure Studies, And...gasp...Coaching.

They are studying what interests them and what they can make a decent living doing. May be ridiculed around the water fountain, but many are on scholarship and are graduating debt free with a college degree and experience that provides a living. Now if they don't graduate...I hear ya...but that holds true for most majors.
