Buell isn't on the stat line at Colorado either. Kept flipping back and forth between the games, trying to catch Bangura or Buell to no avail. Buell may have seen the field, but I didn't catch it.

We talk about how losing Jacoby hurts, and I agree to an extent, only because his recovery from a really nasty injury injects some uncertainty.

To me, the one that hurts is Kacmarek. His size, blocking ability and decent hands made him stand out in my mind. I've liked the way that guy plays from day one. He's 2nd on the depth chart at tOSU, and one would think that he will see some playing time there. I think he could have been a monster in Athens his last couple years.
I am less worried about Will. He was/is a great talent but I think the Williams/Bruno combo with Butler tossed in will be just fine.

I watched that UNC-Minn game last night thinking the same. What a waste of talent that could be playing at Ohio. He'll get some carries later in the year as guys go through inevitable injuries, but not enough to highlight his skills.
After watching Rickey Hunt Jr in that bowl game I think some of Sieh’s carries would have started to get taken away from him here too. I’m hoping for a great year from Rickey and then finding enough money to get him to stay for one more year before he hits the portal.

Sieh Bangura listed as the 4th string RB for Minnesota...Ouch. Maybe he will see the field in garbage time if that ever happens for them.

I don't feel bad in the slightest. LOL

The ugly side of the portal. Atleast he got paid for it but is that cold weather up there worth it?

Minnesota RBs don't tend to last a full season because they don't throw the ball well in Big18 🤪 play.

Hopefully he sees some tick in conference play. Was Sieh a good pass blocker at OU? That will definitely lower your depth chart rating in Big18 🤪 conference.

No, that's not the ugly side. At least he came away with something. He has dollars, and he still has a scholarship, too. The ugly side is the players who came away with nothing at all. Players voluntarily gave up their scholarships, and some got no new offers. Where are they today? If they got their degree first, they can move on to a decent job, but if they were still undergraduates, they come away with nothing at all. That, right there, is the ugly side.

Where do you think Seth would be on the depth charts if he had stayed here? I know the coaching staff has loyalty to returing players, but looking objectively I think he should be third behind Tyus and Hunt.

If Bangura were still here we wouldn't have recruited Titus. He'd still be our #1.

You are probably right there. But, I think Jim has a point that I would put another way: We made a "trade" and got the best end of the deal. I'd take Tyus over Bangura any day of the week. Perhaps, by the end of the season I'll change my tune, but right now the combination of Hunt and Tyus at RB looks to me to be the strongest we've had in quite a long while.

If we give them the rock. I'd like to see RHJ get some more looks. He had that one awesome run and then a couple Albin specials right into the pile.

Yes, that's an ugly side too. But that decision is on the athlete (entering the portal) as you stated:

"Players voluntarily gave up their scholarships" ....

It's risky to enter the portal when you're not producing big stats. You're less likely to go P4 unless you have a big frame, blazing speed, ties/connections, etc. Sometimes, even with stats, you may have other weaknesses that get exposed at the new school causing you to fall on the depth chart.

I truly hope the ones that did not find a new home eventually find one in order to get their degree and play well.

I agree completely. Players now have the option of keeping what they have, or taking a chance on what's behind Door #1. For some, it will work out well. For others, not so well. Either way, I hope they do find a new school, and manage to get a degree. A degree is something that is very valuable, that will open up better career opportunities in the future.

As much as I would have loved to have him back, I think CJ Harris made a smart move by going for a graduate degree at Cal. Doesn’t seem like many other players have that in mind when entering the portal though.

I’ll give Torrie Cox Jr. a shoutout since he stuck around for the bowl game last year - he had a great pick on a 50-50 ball in the end zone against Nebraska last night to take away a TD, in what turned into a 7 point win for Illinois in a top-25 match up.

At this rate, we’ll have to make a thread called “He was at OU before” and just post all the highlights of former players at bigger schools.

In my opinion, from strictly a playing/performance standpoint of those seen as moving up, it appears that there is one (Rourke) who benefitted, two probably (Cross and Cox), and one maybe (Thompson). The others, not so much. Of course, a lot of games to be played.

Rhone was a weird one when he left, we really could've used him this season. That said he probably saw 42 portal receivers coming in and was like WTH MAN. But other than Owen, not much to be impressed about from our end.

I was just looking for me complaining, scratching my head, whatever from last season about how we even lost our back-up TE to the P5 and BG is bringing back their guy who had better stats than Kacmarek and Foster combined.

Really great story and I'm sure it's given some guys a pause.

Fanin will find himself in the NFL and a lot of great tape to show to scouts where Foster and Kacmarek have a lot of cool merch to show the grandkids.

Probably need to start a new thread for this years portal activity but any way.

A few big names from the MAC have already entered in the portal.

Chrishon McCray - WR - Kent State
Not really a surprise here on an 0-12 team. First Team All-MAC WR with two years of eligibility remaining.

Ethan Hampton - QB - Northern Illinois
Started 14 games from 2021-24, including 10 as the primary starter for the 2024 season. Two years of eligibility remaining
