From what I've been reading,it doesn't look like Sprauge is anywhere near ready to return.

Just wondering if anyone has heard anything about a medical redshirt ?

He has already redshirted. Now, if his prior redshirt was as a result of injury, he could apply for a sixth year, but I don't think it was.

I'm kind of inclined to think it might have been a broken collarbone, or something similar, and that he will be back around the time of the BG or Kent game.

Okay, enlighten me then.

The circumstances (quality of opponent, injuries) are what they are. These are things which obtain in every game, every season.

So, to lay off sub-par performance to these things gets old to me after a while.

The real question may be...as certain other author of posts might ask..is why does large injury factor keep happening and can we do anything to combat it.

But, no excuses.
It seems to me that when we have a healthy QB that we do okay. When your top 3 QB's have injuries, as we have now, my expectations are some what diminished. This is not like the NFL where you can go out and rent/buy some sort of a replacement at the drop of a hat.

You will find something to complain about no matter what. That's who you are. We are so fortunate to have someone who has such high football IQ in our presence to help out our coaches. Have a happy day.

Monroe, yes, Ohio has made changes in the past few years to limit injuries. The most significant change is the amount of full contact in daily practices. Other Div. 1 teams where I have friends in coaching are also making this adjustment to limit "live" full contact for the same reasons. The game is so much faster as college athletes are all bigger, faster, stronger. If you are wondering why there are so many injury issues, (and not just at Ohio) I would suggest you join me on the sidelines and get up close and personal with the speed and contact of today's college football. I would guess that you will have a better understanding of the injury problem in college football in less than 2 quarters of action witnessed up close and personal. If it takes you longer than 2 quarters, you are either not close enough to the sideline, or you are deaf, and/or your eyesight is not good. (possibly too many spread sheets with small print !)

From what I've read, even if you have an non injury redshirt,if you meet the NCAA's requirements, you can still get a medical (hardship) redshirt for a sixth year.

Looking at their criteia, it would appear that Sprague could qualifly.

If it is a broken collar bone, they can be tricky, when it comes to healing.

I was listening to an orthopedist talking about Tony Romo.

He was saying that, unlike most other bones in the body, unless you have a collar bone surgically repaired,it remains "fragile" forever.
He said that without surgery any hit, even a minor one to the shoulder could break the bone again.
He also said that, from looking at the hit Romo took, that would explain the second break.

Don't know what JD's situation is but it was good to see him not in the sling that he had at Minn.

It was good to see Windham get a longer stint today. That allowed him to settle down, which is good, because you never know when he'll be needed.

We did not need Vick to run the ball this week which was good. I'm going to wait for the injury report for the Western game but I think we have gotten more players back each week which is perfect timing as we enter the mid point of the season where we have suffered in the past.

I'm not sure that there was a single zone read or QB keeper called while Vick was in there. He almost never threw on the run either. A small number were called with Windham. This has to be a big part of the offense for it to function. It almost looked like the coaches actually did go in believing that they could easily win and not risking injury was the important thing and this still ended up a rout. Miami sucks.

I'm not sure whether to be encouraged that the offense has functioned so well when Vick has been in there without the full offense available and that Vick's passer rating is sky high in spite of not being 100% or whether to be discouraged remembered how the Tettleton offense stagnated against good defenses in the later games of his career because even though Tettleton was probably at that point far and away the best passer in school history it seemed that he didn't feel durable enough to run the Pistol offense that was really put in there for him in the first place.
