This game could be a potential turning point in the season, for better or for worse. Win this won and Ohio has all kinds of momentum (even with the Minnesota loss) going into Homecoming against rival Miami with a revenge game at home against WMU to follow.

However, lose this and we're fighting to make up ground in the East from the get-go. Miami has a horrible defense, but if the Ohio defense isn't up to snuff it could be a shootout. Plus it's a rivalry game. Just ask Cincinnati. Then comes a WMU team that kicked some Bobcat butt last year.

This game means A TON.

Amen to that. I hoped like hell we could beat Minnesota, but to me, until we prove we can win a MAC championship, then every conference game is worth more than that win would have been.

We can beat all the Penn States and Minnesotas we want -- not to mention Marshall -- but we will never get real credibility until we can win this league.

The biggest game of the season is THIS ONE. Because if we win, it gives us a chance to make the next game mean even more.

WIN. THE. CONFERENCE!

Three true Freshmen in this weeks two deep. Pleasants, Provitt and Crouch.

Not sure if this is really accurate as sometimes the two deep is not reliable based on injury and situational circumstances. But nice to see the level of our Freshman class is capable of stepping up!

As did; Ouellette, Lowery, McCray, Pruehs, Walker, Nelson...... last season.

In the Game Notes. The link to Ohio's Game Notes is in the first post on this thread. When you get there, open the PDF version and you'll find it in one of the first few pages.

In the past, the depth chart has been done by the SID and not the coaches. I'm guessing that's still the case. Thus, sometimes a disconnect.

I agree. Getting to Ford Field in December and then winning that game are more important than winning at Minnesota.

No Basham on the two deep. We are thin at DE right now.

Even before the injury to Basham they were thin, mostly only playing 3 players there (Basham, Laseak, and Smart), whereas last year they played 5 (also Sayles, Smith). I guess Robbins and Berger will get more PT, or they could move Sayles back to DE, and play more of Purdum and Porter at DT.

More concerned about LB. Best, #51 seriously injured, another a personal foul waiting to happen, another sets out significant playing time for violation of team rules. Mr. Russell, we are missing you. Someone please call me out on this. I would like to be totally wrong.

So Ohio has won the last three up there: '09, '11 and '13. Keep the streak alive. Besides, Saturday's my birthday.

If we start fast like we have in the first four games, we should be ok. But it may be a challenge. Ohio has scored at least one TD in the first quarter of each game. But neither team has given up a TD in the first quarter this year; Ohio has allowed just one FG (Idaho) and has outscored the opponents 42-3; Akron gave up only a FG to Okla, Pitt and Savannah St, and has won the quarter by only 14-9 in its four games. Bowden will probably make winning the first quarter big on his list.

You are right there, but it's up in the air. Johnson could be healthy this week. It's hard to say how much discipline is left for Poling. Brown is talented but made some big mistakes last week. Moore apparently is out, though he played after he broke his hand last week.

There was a textbook spearing penalty by a LB last season that made me begin to wonder about their coaching. Shame to see that play continuing.

Coaches are not worried about Blair Brown as he is the main enforcer of the LB group. Russell has been done and is done for good. Poling was in trouble for something that happened several months ago they choose to use that half for his punishment as SElou was more of a must win game than Minn. Plenty of talent at LBer still.

I remain worried about coaches who are not worried about spearing and unsportsmanlike behavior.
