Gut check game Buffalo runs a lot of crazy formations with varying degrees of success. It was commented that they staff changed too many things during the WMU week in anticipation of WMU knowing what Ohio wanted to do. I think this game Ohio gets back to what they do well but injuries remain a huge concern mainly Poling the best defensive player on the team. Prepare for possibly more Irons as some feel AJ has lost that spark he had his first year and Papi White a huge play maker is out for a couple. This team is VERY young so I dont know why people are not that excited for the future barring major injuries some players are gaining invaluable game time while still being a fairly good team that is attractive to recruits.

I don't need to see A.J. as having lost anything for Irons to move ahead. If it is his time, then so be it. Similarly, I would not need to see Vick as having lost anything for Windham to move head, or Lowery over McQueen, with McQueen displacing Lucas, with Lucas to RG. If it is time .... not my call tho.

How is your pass rush? Our (Buffalo's) OLine has gotten their teeth kicked in all year long. This is also probably the most undisciplined Buffalo team since we moved up to division 1. Penalties, turnovers, dropped passes, etc... we've shot ourselves in the feet all year long.

Just a thought: I think we should sit Jovon Johnson for this game. Two and 1/2 weeks of rest on that ankle seems appropriate so we can have him ready for BG. I'd hate to see him finish out his career at 60% his normal self.

Be alright with that. Are you going to be the one to tell #51?

Five and two is the record I expected at this point. Was anyone seriously expecting better? Next thing is to get rid of the bad taste of the Western loss. To do so you need to be looking ahead, not backward. Buffalo needs to be the focus. There are some very proud young men on the Ohio O & D lines. I expect them to respond well and for Buffalo to taste better than Bronco.

I think a loss here would doom us to no better than a .500 record. Again. I hope the team steps up.

I'm not expecting great things but I'll still be traveling for this one. Either way the beef on weck will taste good.

Nothing against Buffalo, but its the "Buffalo's" of the MAC that I expect Ohio to beat, and I think and expect that Ohio will win this Saturday. Its BG and NIU that I think Ohio will have an extremely difficult time with.

Makes sense to me. I hope we're at least thinking about this.

We still control our own destiny in the MAC. This is a must win. Additionally, it'd be refreshing for the team to show some bounce back/fight after last week's huge disappointment.

We are 5-2 now. I expected us to beat Buffs and Balls but lose to Northern, BG and even Kent may have our number. That would put us at 7-5. I think a win over Kent is within reach and an 8-4 mark. An upset over the other two would be cake.

The issue is the health of the other linebackers. If you have no Johnson to go with no Poling, along with Moore playing with a cast on and perhaps another injury, and Brown also having a minor injury, then you're really getting far down on the depth chart at linebacker.

Javon's injury is a high ankle sprain. It is a 6-8 week injury according to a friend that is an athletic trainer. I am not sure if inactivity helps the recovery time. Seems odd but I think that is how it is.
He is wrapped during games to prevent re-injury.

I'm not positive, but I think Poling's replacement at linebacker was a safety. Our lb situation seems to in shambles right now!

Chad Moore #38 played a lot at MLB after Poling went down.

I think I would take 7-5 or 8-4 right now. I guess we didn't need Russell at lb. I guess we don't need more and better football players. And, remember a stable coaching staff doesn't necessarily mean the best coaching staff. This is a must win.

According to Arkley's article...Ohio defense, especially at LB will be thin.

Poling out. Johnson, Moore & Brown "very questionable" according to Frank.

This offense better come ready to score (without Papi White of course)...

We'll find out a lot about heart, grit of this team Saturday. We have laid down in this situation in recent years...Hope our coaching staff can inject some life into them.

So I guess we'll see a lot of:
Daugherty - Redshirt Sophomore, former walkon
DiCillo - Redshirt Freshman
Croutch - True Freshman
Collins - 5th year Senior transfer from Iowa

Behind these are more True Freshmen, Addrell Taylor and Marcus Brunson. There are also some walkon linebackers:
Redshirt Junior: Taylor Graves
Redshirt Freshmen: Jacob Koons, Erik Stein
True Freshmen: Austin Clack

I would not be surprised in the least to find that this week they move a safety to OLB to shore up the position, perhaps Macer, Scipio, Quallen, or even True Freshman Javon Hagan, or maybe walkons Seth Meyers or Grant Cunningham. Cody Grillot could also be moved back to LB from TE.

No Poling, No Johnson, No Brown? The doomsday scenario.

Ben Russell should have been a red shirt senior this year. He might have lost his starting job by now, but he would have provided depth we are now lacking.

Here's an idea, how about we worry about the offense that only scored 14 points and keep the defense off the field.
BG is averaging 43 points a game so if our offense doesn't drastically improve it won't matter if we get every defensive player back.

...and no Moore, either.

We talked earlier about the missing recruits in the defensive backfield, Christian and Deontai Williams, but I guess the guys we could have used are London Cloud and Clayton Glasco, two linebackers that were supposed to be in this class. There are three linebackers in next year's class, by the way, Popp, Conner, and Dorsa.

L.C., this is what I mean when I say this staff is unable to get ENOUGH talented footballers on the field at the same time. It seems to me that the last few years MANY of the 3-star type guys never make it to Athens or set foot in Peden. That's why I keep emphasizing we don't need to just recruit 3-star guys that can't/don't make the grade. We need to recruit 3-star guys that will get here, get on the field, and play at a high level!
