Solich was just 5-5 vs Kent coming into this game, some of our best teams have lost to some of their worst. Any win over the Flashes is s a good win, and it didn't take us 2OTs to do it either.

Kent has a very good defense. Minnesota only scored 10 on them in a 10-7 game in which KSU's lone score was by defense. I think it was something like an 80 yard return. Kent offense is probably the worst that I've seen all season in any game I've watched. But, scoring 27 on them is a real feather in OHIO's cap. I think we can gain some offensive momentum from this outing.

Kent State, is, AWFUL! Are we're complaining about our team?? How would you like to have that mess of a program?! Dear Lord do they suck!
It's easy to forget they were an overtime MAC Championship Game away from a potential Orange Bowl in 2012.

How many here would've traded OUr ride for theirs?
Kent was a one hit wonder in 2012. Little known fact but the one hit wonder band DEVO was from Kent Ohio. Coincidence maybe not.

Felt good to watch the Cats take care of business against a horrendous team on a short week. This result was needed, it gets the players confidence going. The Ball State game next week is very winnable.
Ball lost to Georgia State at home a couple of weeks, a program with 2 FBS wins in its history. Last week 52-7 lost to WMU. They have a defeated look to them with nothing to play for.

Proud of how our Bobcats focused on this must-win game and came out and got it done. We played an almost mistake free game on both sides of the ball which certainly looked more like the team we saw against The Herd earlier in the year.
Offensive game plan to encourage the Q.B. to run the ball was effective again last night, as it was early in the B.G. game before Vick dinged his ankle up there.
Kent has a very stout defense, ranked #2 over-all in the league, and our offense played mistake free to set the tone for the evening.
Beat Ball State and we are heading in the right direction !

The O line has come to play. They're opening HUGE holes for the RBs. Haven't seen them blow a defense off the ball like this in a loooong time.

Although we're running effectively, all Kent needs to do is key on the one or two guys in the backfield. I've got a feeling that our running game might slow down a bit in the second half. On the other hand, as punishing as that last drive was on Kent's D line, we might be able to control the line in the fourth quarter.

Thought for sure we'd see AJ on that last 3rd and 2 play. The pass wasn't a bad call, but we had more than 30 secs left and timeout so AJUTM might've gotten the first down.

Really nice to see Poling back. He's everywhere. This is a whole different D than we've had the last three games.

Go Cats!!!
2 drives all night. Not pretty.
You must consider a "drive" to be ten plays or more. Besides the two drives with double-digit plays we also had an 8-play drive (51 yds) for a FG and another 8-play drive (58 yds) that would've ended in a TD if we hadn't chosen to take a knee at the end. We also went 72 yds in five plays and 62 yds in three plays for TDs. The object of the game is to put points on the board, no matter how you get there.

Last night was the first shutout of a MAC opponent since the 2004 win over Buffalo (34-0).

Sorry, I was not referring to the whole game, just to the point in time that I posted my comment. I certainly can't predict what's going to happen the rest of the game. I should have said " so far"

In hindsight, calling Kent State's offense 11 squirrels randomly running all over the field was being kind. Think chipmunks.

You know, we had 31 days between wins (10/10-11/10). Seemed like a lot longer.

Not that it would have made any difference but I wonder why kents didn't run their big running back more against us yesterday. He seemed like a load who was getting yards.

He had seven carries for 26 yards, an average of 3.7 per carry, which isn't good, but it was better than Kent State's average play, which went for 3.4 yards.

I was wondering the same thing, Monroe, until they brought him (Traylon Durham) back in in key yardage situations later in the game and we stuffed him -- one time for a fairly large loss (4 yards or so). Early in the game he came in and got about ten yards a carry twice in a row. I remember several years ago when he was a freshman, I think, that Kent played Rutgers and beat them pretty handily. Durham and Dri Archer were the RBs who got most of the carries. Archer got maybe three carries for every one that Durham got, but he garnered big yardage each time he handled the ball. I think he's been less effective this year because when he's in the D can key on him, with Archer they had to play a more honest defense.

OCF--My twisted, distorted, extreme theory is that you play best players and use them the most on offense.

I know--crazy!

The more this game went on, the less feeling I had that anything that Kent tried was going to be effective. In the second half, Durham had 4 carries for 11 yards, 2.8 yds/carry, and all their running backs combined had 7 carries for 18 yards. At that point, Ohio's defensive line was dominating the line of scrimmage.

That is no doubt why Kent resorted to their absurd trick play, and what an unbelievable play that was. JJ snagged the ball practically out of the QB's hands, and said "Thank you".

Speaking of the defensive line, Tautuaiki, Purdum, and Sayles have all played well, but I've been pleased with the development shown by the Redshirt Sophomores, Aloese and Porter, who have turned into solid backups. With Purdum and Tautuaiki gone next year, they will be very important next year.
