That one crazy fan wrote:expand_more
This board has largely turned into a clown show. There are a lot of smart people here, but some of this stuff is just so far from reality and/or redundant to the extreme that it has become void of entertainment value.
Like I said in a post a few weeks ago, we are beginning to look like "those" fans. *looks at OSU and Marshall boards*
I view it more as this has become more like a normal message board, and not a clique choosing to talk about the rose colored false reality that makes them happy.

Not been on in a while as things going on in personal and professional life that are more important AND I can actually impact. Interesting reading this and other threads. Range from the absurd, “Frank should resign Monday.” To the ridiculous, “Let’s promote an assistant and see what he can do.” The same assistants that have been railed on for years? Talk about rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.

Reality folks, Frank is not going anywhere. One year left on contract, costs too much money to fire him. “He should resign, any self-respecting man would.” Really? Point to Spurrier – fine go ahead. He is viewed in these parts s quitting on his team and coaches – coaches he is not as tied to as Frank (plus he 1. Got money, and 2, has ESPN (and Augusta) waiting). Point to O’Leary – there were off the field issues that also fueled his timing. “He should resign, any self-respecting man would.” Really? Look at the real world. There are sales guys everyday that resign their jobs because they didn’t hit their numbers….oh wait…they don't. Coaches like sales people ALWAYS think they can turn it around. It is a needed part of their DNA.

Ailes, Matt Lauer, someone needs to step forward and provide the buyout. You really think they care? Get real.

Then Frank should step aside (emeritus it) and let an assistant take over. Reality folks. Frank has been OVERLY loyal to his assistants. No one disputes that. Now you want one of them to move in? They will not do that to him and he would not go down that path.

The fun part of this situation is the speculation of who we get next. Looks like there is going to be a ton of turnover this year (won't impact us though, as Frank will coach next season). Not that any of those coaches would be in the running, but their assistants would have been. What I think we can all agree on is that the next coach CAN NOT and SHOULD NOT come from within.

So voice your angst, anger, hope and frustration. Its America after all. But the reality is we will have a new President elected to the White House before we have a new football coach.

I feel so sorry for Frank I guess he is broke on his $500 K he has been receiving and didn't save a penny. Most people are lucky to make $500K in their life so give me a break on the feel sorry bs. If he isn't set for life he is a bigger idiot than I thought. I gave up a job with a base salary of $165K a year at age 59 because I was simply sick of traveling after 37 years. I made enough where I could afford to do it so please no pity parties. Frank is set for life and to grow a set and leave at the end of the year.

Not talking pity, just reality. Forget the money for him, he will also protect the income/contracts for his assistants. Also be difficult to bring in new assistants in a lame duck year. More about Frank trying to make thing tight - see DNA of coaches and sales people.

Would be interested from students and towns people. What is the general temperature around campus? Ohio is much more than a community of 50 (this board).

The coaches don't have a birthright to their salaries. They well know that they have to perform reasonably well in order to stay employed (As all employees everywhere must.) And, they can look in the mirror if they want to know about continued employment or not.

Townspeople and everyone everywhere (except for the 50 or so who view and post here)--they probably are barely aware that we have a football team.

But if we're going to have one and spend millions of dollars on it, then we ought to have one based on a rational, business-like approach.

They don't have a birthright to their salary, nor do they have a calling or responsibility to walk away. It is a business and they will treat it as such and do what they can to continue their business. Just like a sales person or executive would. Again, just reality. May not be what the diehards want, but what is wanted is irrelevant in this situation. Only three people matter. AD, President, Frank. Two don't want to spend a million (a business decision) and one (I don't see) leaving prior to his contract (a business decision).

I imagine that the torches and pitchforks will be out after I post this but I've been thinking it over and figured, "what the hell". I think overtures should be made to Jim Tressel to see if he has any interest in returning to the college coaching ranks. I know he has a good job at YSU but who knows? Maybe the itch is still there.

He'd be a fitting successor to Frank and would certainly help raise the profile of the program.

A fitting successor to Frank? Is Frank a cheater and a liar?

agreed. Tressel has been out of coaching 4 years now and would be 64 when season kicks off in '16. No, we need new energy and enthusiasm once Frank leaves.

So most people make $12K a year (to reach your $500K amount)? Someone making minimum wage would make more than $500K in their working life.

And it's not about what Frank has in the bank. He has a 'contract'. Go see if Art Marinelli is still on campus and he can explain that facet to you and people like Monroe.

As far as Spurrier .... he's been a whiner for years. Decent coach but always taking shots at how poorly his players played. And this year he decided to just quit because of the pathetic start.

Better yet maybe you, Monroe and a few others who rant constantly can put up the $$ for a buyout.

Aren't we confusing earning $500k in a year and $500k over a lifetime?

The thought about putting up the money is valid only to the extent that one contribute, one does what one can instead of doing nothing but mouthing off. Do we really only expect only those who can come up with $500k or more to be able to comment?

That would make my life simpler. I'd never step foot in Athens again, and I'd immediately cease any charitable giving to OHIO.

I attended the YSU game yesterday and I believe that Tressel will never coach again, by choice. He had a suite full of adoring alums and donors and has the support of everyone in town.
His new mission is to focus on the academic success of students that choose to attend YSU.

I think the ship has sailed on Tressel's coaching career. No one needs to lose any sleep on Tressel' ever donning the home sideline in Athens.

Watch for Gordan Gee to bring Tressel to WVU when the coaching ban expires.
