Re Sprague: Haven't seen the awareness of where the open spaces are when back to pass that Vick seems to have.

Wow..JD Sprague gets a little bit of a negative review and we break out a JJ Wattreference and a Tettleton reference. While TT didnt end well he is all time at OU..JD is a good third string QB.

I don't think that many of you understand what level of athlete you need to be successful in the MAC. Perhaps the BG game will make that more apparent.

I don't know if I've said this before but The was JD plays reminds me a lot of Johnny manziel. Specifically his ability to escape the rush.

We can't win a shootout with these guys, so our D needs to come up big. Buffalo held BG to its lowest point of the season so far -- 28. We need to do what they did.

BG is high scoring, doubtless led by their passing....fine qb Johnson and receiver Lewis.

Our front four on D don't get much pass pressure. And or db's are not great. So many average or less MAC qb's light us up. If don't react to what BG wants to do, the result is...will be..what you'd expect.

We can blitz a lot. Or play extra db's. Or some combo of alternating the two.

Will we react or keep doing what tends to get us blasted?

Those...ugh...who will come on and point out in great detail and length about how we blitz a lot or play a lot of db's and are effective at both: not true...try watching our games.

Ouellette has come out this week putting it on the players to execute. Not the schemes, but, players making plays. Gotta love that.

BG scoring average 43, allowing 28, difference of 15. Sounds about right. Up to Ohio to ....

I just saw a website that has it as OHIO + 18. Not out of the question that we can cover that line. If we run the ball well we can keep their O off the field.

Let's remember that famous quote!

"On any given day any team can beat any other team"

This is true for us as well.

While I think JD is a little behind Vick in overall accuracy, his accuracy seemed to have markedly improved this season and he's a very effective runner and is good at moving the pocket and extending plays.
Sometimes I feel like I'm watching a totally different game than most people on this message board.

Sprague's accuracy is....let's see, how do I put it.....not good.

He was 10-20 vs. Marshall in his only relevant action. I'm not counting the 7-9 he was at Idaho because that was trash time and that team was trash.

Last year he completed less than 50% of his passes.

He hit a couple nice passes vs. Marshall on those final drives, but it was the AJ Ouelette show otherwise.

As I said earlier, get a run game that works and Vick is just fine. And to those that say he isn't mobile anymore....that's just wrong too. His ankle is healed...he's just as mobile now as he was early in the year.

I'm sorry...but I agree with an earlier post that says Sprague is a good 3rd string QB. That's 100% correct. He's nothing more than that.

As far as the game...we are a 20' point underdog (with an over/under at 65')....so basically Vegas is projecting we get drummed about 43-23.

I'm not sold we can score 3 TDs vs.......anyone.

And I'm not convinced we can hold a team that AVERAGES 44 ppg to it's average.

We just got torched by WMU (who was averaging 29 ppg) and Buffalo (who was averaging 25 ppg)

Buffalo only scored 29 on that terrible Miami team.

I'd like to hope after two ass-kickings....the last three Novembers to pull from....and 10 days off that we'd be at our optimum level to play this game....

But no Poling...no White....no confidence/momentum......I have little to no hope that this will even be competitive.

I think BG pours it on. It's a national TV game and a chance to really start pushing Matt Johnson for Heisman consideration....they'll be looking for a 500yd, 6 TD night....and the way our team folds at the first hint of adversity.....this could/will get ugly.

Sorry.

Here's a look at how often Ohio has trailed in each game this season-

W (Idaho) Ohio never trailed.
W (Marshall) Ohio never trailed.
W (SEMO) Ohio never trailed.

L (Minnesota) Ohio trailed for a total of 12:16, the first time was with 11:25 left in 3rd (-3pts), regained lead with 14:39 left in 4th (+4pts) and then lost the lead with 0:30 left in 4th (-3pts).

W (Akron) Ohio trailed for a total of 3:30, lost lead with 7:57 left in 1st(-3pts), regained lead with 4:27 left in 1st(+4pts), never trailed again.

W (Fiami) Ohio never trailed.

L (WMU) Ohio never had a lead.

L (Buffalo) Ohio had a lead for 1:10 minutes, lost lead with 8:31 left in 1st.

In Ohio's 5 wins this season they have trailed their opponent for a total of 3:30 minutes. In Ohio's last two games they have had the lead over their opponents for a total of 1:10.

To say Ohio needs to jump out to an early lead and maintain it against BG is an understatement.

If there is a glimmer of hope it's that BG has only been able to score 40 or more points on teams that have allowed 40 or more points two (2) or more times this season.

I've got their SOS at #98 and their average win against the #94 opponent. All six (6) of their wins have come against a team with a losing record.

We can see that OHIO meets the 40 point criteria. But I do hold out hope that the defense from the first 6 games can show up and that the offense can find a running game.

Another interesting stat, we did not force 1 turnover in our last 2 losses. With the exception of the MN game we won every other game and forced more turnovers then we gave up.

Forcing a number of turnovers would certainly help our cause.

20.5 point spread with an over/under of 65 involving a team that is 5-3 and a team that is 6-2. Think about that for a moment.

By the way, I am impressed with BG's OOC schedule this year consisting of Tennessee, Maryland, Memphis and Purdue. Opening week loss at Tennessee, followed by victories over Maryland and Purdue and a 3 point at home loss to Memphis.

Finally, if you go to BG's website the first thing you will see is their hyping the sale of tickets for their upcoming game with Toledo. If you purchase that ticket you can get a ticket to OUr game for $1.00. Enough said.

To be fair.
You have to look at who BG's losses were against and, in the case of Old Miss.,by how much.
Plus they did beat 2 big 10 teams.
