Several reasons not to go for yet another TD in that situation:

1. Going for another score is classless crap. No need to rub it in.

2. Solich and Lembo have too much respect for one another.

3. BSU waived the white flag when they kicked the extra point after their last TD instead of going for two and trying to make it a two-possession game. It was over.

4. Why risk getting somebody else hurt to score a useless TD.

Did you miss this last week with about 2 mins left and we are on the two yard line...

no need to run up the score or possibly get another injury...

Yet again we are 5 yards out at the end of the game on National TV, yet again we decide to not score despite being 5 yards out at the end of the game on National TV. I don't care how far up we are, we are 5 freaking yards out on National TV.

NEWS FLASH: Nothing posted on this site has the slightest influence on the Athletic Director, any of the coaches, or the president. If you have a spare million or two to donate to stadium upgrades, you might be listened to just a little, but you still wouldn't get a coach fired who the AD and prez thought was doing a good job.

If you don't think some of the coaches read this site, you are in fantasy land. Maybe not the head coach, but coaches always want to know the fans sentiment. ...

Perhaps there are some that check in here, but they have far better things to do with their time, so I would hope not. I do think that the AD probably checks in here, and I know that others from the athletic department do. They are the ones that need to know what fan attitudes are, and here is where they would expect to find the most extreme perspectivs.

In a way it's a good thing that BA has become what it has become. In the 2005-2011 years there was a too-cozy relationship, where BA was always supportive of the players and the team, and it came to be viewed as a "safe" place. Parents posted here regularly, and players did occasionally, and BA built a closer relationship between the players and fans, boosting the morale of all. That model was doomed to implode at some point, and it abruptly ended in 2012 when the fans turned on the players after the Miami loss, sucking a lot of morale out, and exposing the risk. A too-cozy relationship with fans is dangerous because fans are fickle, and I'm not just talking Ohio, I'm talking everywhere.

It took a couple years, but BA has evolved since then. The parents and players no longer post, nor do members of the Athletic Department. It's not the same safe, cozy place anymore. Instead it's just like the fan board for any major school, where you find a mix of opinions, some supportive, some critical, some happy, and some unhappy. The players, if they do check in, read it differently than they would have in the past, and come here knowing what to expect.

I'm a big believer in free speech, and I would never tell someone they aren't entitled to their own opinions, not entitled to express them. I also think that now that BA has evolved, it does no real harm, so go for it.

L.C., I think this has been around the block once before. I would always suggest the best thing for Athletic administrators, coaches, players and parents to do is to stay away from any fan board. It's just like not watching a television program if you don't like the content...don't turn the program on in the first place.

I would only add that we ALL want the Bobcats to be successful. Some of us are just a bit impatient and each of us does have our own opinion of where the programs are and where they are going.

I agree, and I think that's where we are, now. It just took us awhile to get there.

At least, with the success (relative term I know) of the football, basketball and volleyball programs, when I walk around N.J. or N.Y. with an "OHIO" jacket on, most people say "Go Bobcats".

Nobody is trying to get the coach fired, just voicing my concerns. I cited the Michigan case because someone said the fans opinion does not matter. I am against mediocrity, so are the coaches and players.

That would be me and was in response to your statement, "As a fan, I tell them (coaches and other fans) how I think they can win, not how they can be mediocre."

My response was that the coaches do not care how we feel they should be handling play calling, player personnel decisions, etc. and certainly do not monitor this sight for ideas or, even fan temperature. You have every right to voice what you think the team should do (and some of it is spot on), but unless you have an athletic building names after you...

As far as your shifting the discussion to fan pressure on the administration (versus fans telling coaches how they can win), concerted fan pressure is indeed quite valuable. It is why I asked a few weeks back what the general fan temperature was with respect to Solich (since the 50 of us on here is quite inconsequential), the response from those in town and Monroe was that most are fine. That said, the march on the President's house and the ADs house at Michigan was a nice show. But the only house they care about is the Big House. So when season ticket holders stopped showing up, the administration started to listen. Money is loudest protest of all.

The AD was forced to resign after he criticized the fans, whoa Nelly. What does that say? The Big House was selling out. Let's find another to discredit that feller, because fans don't matter. Who does the program market to and sell jerseys to? F the fans.

Do you always change what others say? Please show me where I say the fans do not matter? Their pocket book makes them relevant, and therefor matter. And where did I say the Michigan games were not sellouts? (not showing is very different than not selling out).

This whole back and forth started with you presenting how your task was to tell the coaches how they could win....my response was,and is, they don't give a rat's ass what play the fans want called or who the fans want to start - a point others concur.

You have played, coached and studied the sport for 20, 30, 40, 50 years. I was a back-up guard who often peed in my uniform because I couldn't hold my bladder for the three hours during a game.

You can watch a play for three seconds and completely diagram it. I've Googled the term "Why is the middle linebacker named Mike" at one point in my life.

You have worked with and molded young men and made it your mission in life. I once screamed "NICE MUSTACHE" at Dave Wannstedt as I ran across the field at Peden Stadium.

You've picked up and moved your family multiple times to follow a dream, working countless hours. I expect overtime when I go over 40 and dread even moving from one house to another house in the same town.

BUT LISTEN TO ME ABOUT FOOTBALL!
You've won.

Van--Maybe. But Good Will Hunting and principles of auditing.

In Good Will, rightfully, no one cared about the credentials (janitor Matt Damon) of who solved the tough puzzle. They respected the input regardless of source.

Likewise, a key tenet of auditing (and business) is to respect good ideas no matter their source.

I'm not a big fan of 'you're not an expert so you can't give me any good info.'

I hope that in my personal and business lives I'm wise enough to accept good info/knowledge/thought no matter the credentials (or not) of the supplier.

I think we as amateurs can have really good insight into teams, just like I believe in the role of the critic when it comes to the arts and politics.

Flaws are easier to see out here. We don't as easily get caught up in the "Us against the world" mentality that trusts processes too long, belatedly.

Frank Solich not putting a bright enough marashino cherry on top of a 48-31 win in the final seconds is not one of those times.

Yes, and any of us who has ever worked in (most)environments where reputations die every day based on who gets credit for what will affirm how spot on that analogy is.

I understand the fight for credit, the politics that can come with that.

I'm more talking about a good working environment, a cooperative team effort.

'Political' type environment or not, my take is that most people at most businesses know who the good/contributing people are and who the laggard/coasters are.
