Other than CMU, Northern Illinois has owned the entire MAC for the last 4-5 years. Given Ohio's injuries on the defensive side, I think the trend will continue. I just hope Ohio plays them tough (as they usually do) and keeps the score close. Ohio's recent record against MAC teams with winning records makes me very nervous for this game.

NIU (potentially) has a divisional title on the line in this game. Gonna be a tough one, to say the least.

my favorite NIU stat-

since losing @ Toledo 20-19 on Oct. 17th, 2009 NIU's record in regular season conference games is-

1-1 v Ohio
3-4 v CMU
43-0 v rest of the MAC

If there's a program besides CMU that can defeat NIU in the regular season its Ohio.

I totally agree. Can Ohio win this game? Absolutely. Will Ohio win this game? Not easily, but I hope so. Before the season I picked an Ohio win against NIU, and a win in a bowl to finish 9-4. I see no reason to change that now.

We might catch a bit of a break with the weather. Inaccuweather says Tuesday will be cold but without precip. Temps in the 30s at game time. Of course, that could change. They're calling for rain on Wednesday, so it might come in early.

Watching NIU and WMU with the MAC West title on the line and I'm not impressed with NIU whatsoever. Win or lose this game, I think Ohio beats NIU next week.

Despite that dominance in the regular season, they have been picked off a few times on the biggest stage in the MAC Championship by teams like Miami and BG.

I have a friend who is a BG grad and he's going to be rooting for NIU, the fink! ;-) His excuse is that he doesn't want to face Toledo for a second time this season in the MACC.

NIU wins West title with a win and hasn't lost a game in November since 2009....that's 6 years....that's 22 straight games.

Ohio is going to need a performance for the ages to win this.

Often you hear people talk about the Pitt game that we won as sort of the win that turned this whole thing around, which has some merit. But I remember the Northern Illinois game in 2006 and thinking to myself - we might actually have a program... http://espn.go.com/ncf/boxscore?id=262522459

Do you blame him? I wouldn't want to play Toledo either. Somehow Ohio manages to avoid Toledo year after year after year. When is the last time Ohio played at the Glass Bowl? It has to be coming up close to a decade by now.

Yeah they've also won on the biggest stage three out of the last five, so what's your point?

Looking forward to my first trip to DeKalb for this one. There is a lot riding on the game for NIU in particular, and I would love for us to knock them down a peg.

ON ANY GIVEN DAY ANY TEAM CAN BEAT ANY OTHER TEAM

This is obviously a big game for both teams but I believe it's bigger for NIU, as OHIO has already clinched a bowl bid. This is their play-in game for the MACC.
Much more pressure on them.

We should play very relaxed and have fun. I expect that they will be confident, but anxiousness will be in the back of their minds. With a freshman QB who hasn't been in this position there is always a greater chance for mistakes.

As I have stated numerous times this year "How the turn over battle goes so does Ohio".

From the looks of the crowd last night, you're not going to have any problem getting a good seat, David. That's midweek MACtion at it's best.

So here's an interesting scenario: We beat NIU, WMU beats Toledo, and CMU beats EMU. That would leave a four-way tie for first in the West. NIU and WMU would each be 2-1 in the head-to-heads, Toledo and CMU 1-2. NIU would win the division based on last night's game.

Will we start our running back who, of those who are healthy and have more than 10 carries on the year, is averaging the most yards per carry?

Why would we not?

I was a little surprised by that turnout at NIU too. Howevet, the UT at BG game had a fantastic turnout. Probably the best atmosphere I've seen for MACtion yet and you'd never have known that was a Tuesday night game.

The point is that while their winning percentage is completely skewed during the regular season, it comes much more back down to earth in postseason (championship game) play.

Bo Hardy (13.8 ypc)? One reason why we wouldn't is that stats can be deceiving. Getting yardage during garbage time can be a lot easier than getting yardage earlier in a game.

I agree that stats can be deceiving. But the top handful of guys are

beginning to have enough carries that some meaning can be taken.

[Bo doesn't meet my minimum carries standard.]

It's still true that we should be starting Kylan Nelson at running back.

Some of his long runs are not deceiving...They happened in technicolor.
