Montgomery is a wonderful city and I hope everyone makes as much attempt as possible to attend, as you will not regret it.

One of the many things that suck about ESPN is how they spend hours babbling on about the four teams in the playoff and don't have one word about the other 38 bowl games. They could at least put up graphics when the match-ups are announced.

If we had to play a Sun Belt team, App St is not a bad choice. They have some rep from their win at Mich a few years ago. Ark St would be better; the Georgia teams still have that 1AA sound to them. The problem though is we're first up in the bowl season so there's less prep time.

What's the payout for this game? I've seen one site that says $100,000. Ouch.

May not be sexy, but don't confuse sexy with quality. App State is a good team and will probably be favored.

The Blade says Toledo plays FAU at Boca. What a comedown for the Rockets

Curious to see who the Zips play. If they get a decent G5 team or even a not-so-great P5 team I'll be pissed.

Ugh, really wanted Boca Raton so I could drive up from Miami... Trying to figure how I can sell the gf on Montgomery in mid-December. Maybe I'll just take a radio to the beach and listen to Russ and Rob

I saw this as well, which is the lowest bowl payout BY FAR (second to last is Potato at $325K)

It's a turd no matter how you look at it, unfortunately.

Re: Payouts. Don't conferences gather all payout and then divvy up the proceeds?

I don't understand the discontent. It's a bowl game. It's a similar opponent. Should be a close game. This fan base is amazing. Complaining about a bowl location after all these injuries.

It's a good problem to have. I don't think anyone would rather see them at home, but at the same time given that every team above .500 this year (plus a few more) got a bowl this year, it's still disheartening to get the worst one.

We are playing a 10-2 team in a bowl game. WKU at 11-2 and Houston at 12-1 are the only ones that have better records.

Mediocre season with a mediocre middle of MAC team so why should we get anything more than an also ran bowl. No offense to App State, they will probably kick OUr a$$.

It's not the worst one to Appalachian State nor it's fans and if Ohio doesn't bring it's A game it's going to get smoked!

Think Ohio has it bad? (and it doesn't) Look at Bowling Green, they win the MACC and their reward is Georgia Southern. At least the country has heard of Appalachian State. Georgia Southern, not so much.

I don't think Ohio has the football pedigree to be picky about where it plays bowl games.

This is Appy State's first bowl game in the modern era. Their last "bowl" game was in 1955. Big time excitement for them. Plus being in Boone, NC, they should bring a lot of fans with them.

BG is better than Ohio and Georgia Southern easier than Appalachian State. The reward for BG for them it should be an easy bowl game. Toledo is the only team that had an answer for BG's passing game this season.

As to Georgia Southern being easier to beat that App. State, it depends. If you have not played a team with the triple option offense, it will be a long game.

App. State has played against GaSo for years in the Southern Conf. And, in the SoCon, there were two other schools with a version of the triple offense, The Citadel and Wofford. GaSo's version of the TO is similar to Georgia Tech's and Navy's because their coaches used to coach at GaSo. The last GaSo coach who tried to run something other than the TO got ran out on a rail (B. VanGorder).

App. State's current defensive coordinator used to be at Wofford. Point being, App. State has seen the triple option that GaSo runs for many years and has done well stopping it (except for last year, when we had mostly freshmen & sophomores on D).

I mean... I can tell you what the play is going to be. There are no surprises. But, it is the absolute dickens to stop it.

Having said all that, congrats to Ohio. I have seen some of your games this year. Y'all looked pretty good. App. State fans take football seriously, BUT I can tell you that you can expect a friendly welcome at any App. State tailgate in Montgomery.

BTW, generally, most App fans don't like "Appy". Just saying, b/c I don't like to offend unintentionally, & you probably don't either.

App. has a long tradition of winning football. From our 3 nat'l titles in Division 1-AA to our win at Michigan in 2007 (and, yes, I was there), to our numerous SoCon titles. My kids were fascinated to learn that in 1938 App. State's football team was undefeated and unscored on (I think one game ended in a 0 - 0 tie).

Anyway, I hope Ohio fans enjoy the Camillia Bowl. I am sure App fans will!

Thanks for the heads up. No offense intended. What's your guess for Mountaineer attendance?

Fortunately, most of us Ohio U alums can relate to this as can the graduates of the University of Ohio.

I have nothing to base an attendance guess on. But, if playoff games 3+ years ago are any indication, my guess is 14k - 16k. I think App fans will travel well to Montgomery & our first bowl since 1955-ish.
