I would love to get Temple. I can see a Temple flag from my living room window. It would make the game so much more exciting for me to be able to talk trash on my neighbors/friends/colleagues that went to Temple. They are the epitome of fair weather fans. Most of them probably didn't even know Temple had a football team until they beat Penn State. Now they think they're the best team in the country.

How about Detroit and see if we can get Nebraska. FS could lead his troops in a beat down of the Huskers and then retire, going out a winner and giving a little payback in the process. Relax everyone, I know it is never going to happen.
Now THAT wouldn't be all that bad ... and I would have no problem whatsoever rooting for Ohio. KARMA, baby!!! :D

If we wind up in the Bahamas, sounds like it will be vs. MTSU

I vote San Diego v Air Force. Talked to Schaus at the NIU game, and he said at this point there are no guaranteed slots of MAC schools to the primary or secondary bowls. Today, no one knows anything, including where the MAC champion ends up.

No interest in seeing Temple at all and only interested in attending would be if they play in Alabama or possibly Florida.

Been there and punk'd them.

So far this weekend....

Texas eliminated
Buffalo eliminated (nice parting gift to UMass)
Nebraska eliminated
Washington gets eligible
Missouri eliminated
San Jose State eliminated
Georgia State survives until next week
Tulsa gets eligible

Teams with work still to do this weekend

ECU
Indiana
ODU
VaTech
Kentucky
Louisiana Lafayette (needs to win this weekend and next)
South Alabama (needs to win this weekend or next)
Illinois
Minnesota
Kansas State (needs to win this weekend and next)

That's a max 84 teams for 80 slots. More importantly for us, there are 7 eligible MAC teams for a minimum 6 slots, with the Quick Lane pending for #7. The ACC has max 9 eligible teams with one likely playoff or at-large pick in the NY6, and the B1G has a max 10 eligible teams with at least one likely playoff or at-large pick. So the Quick Lane should open up to the MAC and that will be that.

EDIT: Some quirky stuff going on in the final MAC standings. The West has 4 teams claiming a share of the division title at 6-2 in conference. And the MAC site has Kron ahead of us in the East despite our head-to-head win and better overall record. That could put us anywhere from MAC #4 to MAC #7. I do think if any MAC team stays home, it's probably Kron (whose best win is probably Louisiana Lafayette), but seeing the conference standings gets my conspiracy senses all tingly.

Anyway, root for Wisconsin, Northwestern, and Purdue today to make this all academic.

After looking over the final football standings it appears to me that there are 4 locks;
BG - 9-3
Tol. - 9-2
Ohio - 8-4
NIU - 8-4

The 5th guaranteed spot is up for grabs between 3 teams that are sitting @ 7-5;
WMU
Akron
CMU
I believe there will be 2 disappointed teams from this group; Akron & CMU
Sorry, I do not share the same thoughts as many on this board that feel 6 or 7 teams will get invites.

Thoughts anyone?

The MAC now has 6 guaranteed spots (taking Army's as a backup slot), so the only question is if 7 MAC teams will go...

Some of the teams still trying to get bowl eligible might just be playing for pride. AAC already has 8 eligible teams to cover their 7 bowls and their likely access spot, so ECU could be left out if there are 81-84 eligible teams. Same thing for two of the three Sun Belt teams left; SB has only one slot to fill. Given this, if there are 84 eligible teams there should be no more than one 7-5 team from a G5 conference left out. My money would be on Akron.

Another consideration is that several MWC teams likely will finish 6-6 (UtahSt plays BYU, NM plays AFA). MWC has more eligibles than slots, so much would depend on whether one of its 6-6 teams would be deemed more attractive than a MAC 7-5 team.

Me too! It's funny, there's only been a one year hiatus but for me, I feel like its 2006 again where I was excited for the possibilities! I think beating Northern Illinois has something to do with that.

Early games: Indiana and VT are in; ECU, ODU, Kentucky are out; SBama and ULL trail big late. Looks like all MAC teams will be in and some 5-7 teams going to bowls is more likely.

South Bama and Lou-La both lose. South Bama can get eligible with a win next week, but Lou-La is eliminated, which means we will have at most 80 eligible teams.

I'm a little confused as to what you think could possibly happen to cause CMU and Akron to stay home?

Yep, and there could be as many as 5 depending how things play out. But we're definitely at 2 at a minimum

There is a good chance that the 3 remaining teams that have shot will all lose and make it 5. They are all going to be significant underdogs.

I was trolling the Akron messageboard last night and some of them were saying it was a lock that they were going to the Bahamas Bowl against MTSU.

The MAC has 7 slots guaranteed. Of course CMU and Akron will be bowling they might not like where. One of those 2 could make a trip to Boise. Ohio will not have the same problem with 8 wins.

It sure would, but their coach is leaving so that may cause some turmoil there.

I hope now everyone will believe it: Every team with 6 wins will be in a bowl. Plus 2-5 teams with only 5 wins will be in bowls.
