Not sure what you are basing that on, this is a very good team that will take our best game to win it,

I intend to make the drive from Durham, NC along with my daughter (an App State grad) and grandson who will be wearing his green and white. I was stationed for 9 years in Montgomery and am looking forward to going back. Somebody mentioned that Crampton Bowl is a glorified high school stadium, and the local high schools do indeed play there. It has a capacity of 26,000 but will not look like any high school stadium you have been in.

I too have witnessed games at App State and the fans are much more into it than Ohio fans are. I guess success will do that for you. It is a fun place to see a game if you ever get the chance.

Having said that, GO OHIO!

Roger
Thanks for the nice words about the App football program. Yes, we are excited for our first FBS bowl game. I hope to make this game with at least my daughter that is an App student currently.

I like this match-up both from a competitive standpoint and the MAC is a conference I respect.

Ummm, not so sure about that. Ohio can beat Fiami and Kent State easily. App. State is A LOT better than those teams!

Ohio's has almost 2 week rest advantage over ASU. ASU suffered injuries yesterday and only has 14 days to prepare for this bowl game. The best analogy might be the Marshall game earlier this year (aka penalty fest) where Ohio had the Herd confused the whole game.

Dude, we are excited to be playing you guys! Being favored isn't something that will go to our heads. We will be ready for this game as we expect your guys will be to. I promise this is gonna be a hell of a game! I hope one day you guys can come to Boone and see our place, maybe a home and home.
hmmm, really? because there's an ASUTodd on the App State message board that has quite a different opinion-

"..these guys are not Appalachian State. They might be the 3rd ranked MAC team, but they would lose to half of the sunbelt. We should slaughter them, if we are healthy and can stay healthy."

"Their wins aren't impressive and they rank below us in every category. If we are healthy this won't be close."

"Ill also add this.... the top half of the sunbelt is as follows:
Ark ST
App St
Ga South
GA State
South Alabama

They beat Idaho, who is right there in the rankings with South Alabama. South Alabama is a good team that has had some bad breaks and almost beat us. Each one of the teams I just listed would beat Ohio. I don't think that it is crazy to think that either."

Just so you know, in mid season, Ohio was rated #1 in the country in players on the injured list, and was without 18 players due to injury, and a number of others playing hurt. Most of them should be healthy for the bowl (only 2-3 are out for the season). For example, against they played most of the game with the #3 QB, but we expect both Vick and Sprague to be back for the bowl. Ohio was down 4 of the top five running backs, but Patterson, Brown, and White might be back for the bowl. The top 5 linebackers were all hurt, but I expect all to be available for the bowl, and healthier than they have been since very early in the year.

You said not just wins but "slaughters." And Ohio would lose to half of the Sun Belt? That is insanity. Only three teams in the Sun Belt would be favored against Ohio. Admittedly, one of them is Appalachian State. The bowl is definitely going to be a challenge for Ohio, you guys have a nice team.

Oh, to see Jovon #51 100% in his last game. #34 healty for his last game, #35 healthy for one more go, #37 healthy in a last game. Were that possible, can someone put me in touch with a good bookie?

I like this matchup. I think BOTH Sun Belt teams and MAC teams kinda shrug at bowl matchups against the other. We all would rather play a P5 team. That said, this matchup has some cool things going for it. I like the regional factor to it. I've always thought it'd be cool to see an Appalachian conference with schools like Appy and Ohio together. Also, this is Appy's first bowl. That'll add some extra juice for their fanbase.

Regarding the quality of our wins. I think we have two pretty darn good wins in Marshall and NIU. It is really the loses we have in MAC play that bug me. Other than those MAC loses, I think our resume is easily more impressive than App State. That isn't to say Appy isn't going to be a tough one... They are. I've watched them quite a bit this year. Would not surprise me to see them favored.

Sidenote, for the all-name team. From playing Fanduel, I've noticed a WR on App State named Simms Mcelfresh who I think takes the cake for best name in the nation.

I think that oddsmakers would consider Appalachian State to be the best team even though they didn't win the league. But yes, I think about +2 against Georgia Southern, +3 against Arkansas State, and oddly more like +5 or +6 against these guys. The smart money will know who is getting whom healthy in the last few days and that will affect it. Ohio would be about a TD favorite against Georgia State and Troy and more than that against South Alabama.

I will concur with all you said. We are all homers and just like some of you guys think you will slaughter us, I think that if we play like we can, we could do the same. Call me a homer. You guys have been to bowl games and I can see how playing us is a step down for you. We haven't..... so to us playing ANYBODY is a good thing...better than sitting at home. In the end there are some teams we would have rather seen but we (ASU) live by the creed, "Anyone, Anywhere, Anytime."

I am pretty sure that they will be favored. I think that we have two wins that most rankings would have as top 70 wins. Which isn't great but they have maybe a top 80 win against Georgia Southern. We have two losses in the 60ish range in Minnesota and WMU while they have one in Arkansas State. Both teams took a loss to a team ranked out of the level of this game (BGSU in the 30s and Clemson #1). We took 1 bad loss (Buffalo) while they didn't take any.

Prior to Frank Solich coming in, we hadn't been to a bowl since 1968. Since then, we've played Southern Miss, Marshall, Troy, Utah State, Louisana-Monroe and ECU. I don't think anyone would view this as a step down from that list.

Both App State and Ohio have solid attendance. With this being their first bowl, I think this could end up being a pretty well-attended game.

Simms went from a no scholly walk-on to team captain. And everyone loves his name. It usually gets a mention during the game by a sideline reporter or the person doing color commentary.

Another thing here: Most rankings have Ohio as the 5th or 6th ranked MAC team and not the 3rd. We had a run of really bad injuries in the middle of the year which Northern Illinois is going through now. Really, I think Arkansas State, Appalachian State, Georgia Southern, Western Michigan, Northern Illinois, Ohio, Central Michigan, and two teams Ohio split close games with out of conference in Marshall and Minnesota are all pretty close to each other in the middle of the FBS bell curve. Appalachian State is sometimes rated the highest of them and sometimes Ohio the lowest but there is only about 5 or 6 points of difference in all of those teams in just about any rating you look at.

The MAC does have two teams that are rated higher than anyone in that pack in Toledo and Bowling Green who would be over a TD favorite against anyone on that list. Of course one of Appalachian State's out of conference opponents, Clemson, is much, much better than that.

App State will be favored because they are 10-2, and we are 8-4, and among the gambling masses a 10-2 G5 team is better than an 8-4 G5 team.

But I like our chances in this one. If our D is healthy, we will be the best defense App State has faced not named Clemson. So then the question will be what Ohio offense shows up. We seemed to get the rushing issues worked out the last 3 games, and I think that continues.

Colorado State and Nevada have to play each other in a bowl game. We could have it MUCH WORSE.
The most appropriately-named bowl might be 5-7 San Jose St vs 6-6 Georgia St in the Cure Bowl. Sounds mighty sick to me, even if it is the first of three Orlando bowls. It may be the epitome of what's wrong with the bowl system.
