Saw the thread "MAC Coaching Carousel" and wanted to list the openings I knew of since there have so many of them this weekend. Today alone, I've read of new alleged openings at Georgia, Virginia, Rutgers (Both Flood and AD Julie Hermann reportedly out, so odds that Schaus is interested?).

For those who didn't hear, yesterday it was reported that Justin Fuente will take over at Virginia Tech, meaning there would be an opening at Memphis.

This time last month, I would've contributed that Dana Holgorsen would be out at WVU at season's end, but the Mountaineers just finished a perfect November (4-0 and probably really hoping they hadn't opened Big 12 play against all the top 4 teams in that league). If WVU goes on to beat Kansas State and AD Shane Lyons still fires Holgorsen, that would be surprising to me, at least.

UPDATE: Virginia Tech has officially announced Fuente is the new head coach.

All I can say is this may be the largest list of high profile jobs in quite some time. It's going to get interesting in seeing how this all works out.

I listed all the openings/firings that I am aware of in my "performance versus recruiting thread". I count 20 coaching changes so far.

USC (West Coast) makes interim HC Clay Helton full time HC. Between this and LSU keeping Miles, it probably means Chip Kelley is staying in the NFL for now.

Georgia is the highest profile job available now, and they are reportedly targeting Bama DC Kirby Smart. Once that hire is made, the dominoes should fall quickly. I don't see any other premier P5 jobs. I see Miami as the best of the rest, followed by Missouri.

Maybe until the end of the season but I'll be absolutely shocked if he's in Philly ten seconds after their last game. He may not be coaching a college team next year but I can't see him in the NFL. I think his dubious personnel decisions are coming home to roost. They are 4-7 and have only played three teams with a winning record all season (two of those were against 6-5) teams. They have lost five games against teams with losing records. I just can't see Philly keeping him or another pro team taking a chance on him.

My nephew's wife and mother-in-law are from Philly.
His mother-in-law's family have had Eagles Season tickets forever.

They were saying everyone in Philly wants Kelly gone after the season.
(Actually their words were a bit more colorful)

Justin Fuente from Memphis to Virginia Tech. That's a great move.

I'm interested to see where Mark Richt lands. I could totally see him take a year off ala Frank and pop back up in 2017. Otherwise, someone is going to land a great coach.

Kirby Smart is the rumored front runner for South Carolina and probably Georgia now as well. Clemson DC Brent Venables is another name being tossed around.

WVU is in an interesting position. They lost four straight games to the four best teams in the conference and those are probably going to be the only losses of the year. The problem is, every one of those losses except for the Oklahoma State game was by 20+ points. I probably would say it's too early to can Holgerson, but Mountaineer fans might not be as forgiving.

The question is also how WVU lost those games. Against Oklahoma, it was a close game in the 4th until the Mountaineers started shooting themselves in the foot multiple times. If they didn't have such a slow start against the Cowboys, WVU probably wins in regulation. Baylor and TCU weren't that close...

No doubt they want him gone, and no doubt those personnel moves were not the best (and I think everyone except Kelly realized that right away...Nick Foles for Sam Bradford? Really? For that offense?). But he's owed $6.5 million per year for the next two years, so firing him isn't going to be cheap. I think there's a decent chance he gets one more year.

(Put together an O-line that doesn't resemble a set of traffic cones and get Colin Kaepernick this offseason. Tell me that Philly O wouldn't be scary again.)

I see that more higher profile jobs this year are going to OCs. That might have to do with the buyout packages on coaches and more salaries for veteran coaches. Some of the P5 jobs open are odd ones. Maryland, Virginia and Rutgers are buyers beware positions. The top OCs and G5 coaches are making 1 million+ and leery about moving on to a HC spot at a P5 graveyard.

I think I'd rather go to Toledo or Memphis than Rutgers. What a disaster they are for the B1G, in hoops and football.

Does the BIG Network get into the NYC market without Rutgers? That's an answer I don't know. I'm sure someone else on here does.

The B1G network was available on some cable networks,as part of their premium sports package.

I was told that when RU joined the B1G ,cable networks would be charged a per subscriber fee to carry the B1G network.
The cable systems now include the B1G in all sports packages, but again, from what I was told, the cable companies are charged per subscriber.

Doesn't seem legal to charge for customers who don't get the channel but who knows.

The dollar amount I heard was $1.00/month/customer.

Was also told that the only reason the B1G wanted RU and Maryland was TV dollars.

There are a lot of mixed emotions for RU's new A.D.
There's no question he was the Governor's choice.
Good Administrator,limited athletic experience.

Big question is who they get for a football coach.

Basketball is still considered a lost cause.

They are however doing very well in women's soccer (Final 4).
They are also highly ranked in wrestling.

How does Babers roll? Does he take coordinators and other staff with or does a coordinator move up at BG keeping things together.

This is always an interesting situation to watch. It appears as the $$$$$$$$$$$'s for coaches continue to rise the patience that schools have to not winning becomes less and more schools will follow the NFL by making changes mid season A.K.A. Golden @ Miami.
I also believe that coaches buy outs will increase as well as shorter length of contracts as schools do not want to be tied to an expensive looser.
I Al's case I think he probably has a pretty good payout, like at least 2 more years.
As someone who is in business, these contracts are so great, that unless these coaches go crazy in spending they could really set themselves up for life by proper expense management. Nothing lasts forever. I do need to add that I have never heard of a coach being broke like some NFL & NBA players.
