Since Evan Shaw left the athletics department for WOUB, we have not really done the "pump up" videos. I wish they would return!
I think Shaw's replacement, Tanner Smith, is gone now also.
in fairness to our squad, this is App's first video for the bowl, posted 12/14 and is 1:29 long. Bobcat TV has posted 3 videos regarding the bowl, a 1:31 preview video on 12/7, a 14:33 video of the bowl press conference on 12/8, and a 4:02 anticipation video on 12/11.
I do appreciate what BobcatTV puts out. I was just saying that I do miss the motivational videos they used to do for each game like this one -
http://youtu.be/IV2GoWNDTyQI've said this in a previous post...but Ohio Athletics misses Evan Shaw's work more than I think it's realized. Those videos were an amazing way for this program to market themselves on social media where kids live these days. Any kid watching those videos that was considering OHIO....it had to sway their opinion. It gave OHIO a "big-program" feel to it.
So much is made of playing game on TV....but those shows that Evan produced (Relentless & Attack U for hoops) were equally, if not more, important than games on TV. Every team plays on TV nowadays...but to have a 30-minute Hard-Knocks-type show about OHIO was extremely valuable.
It gave OHIO a leg up on the rest of the MAC schools and on a lot of the other mid-majors in the country.
That kind of exposure is priceless. The fact that we don't even have a Frank Solich coaches show or any kind of Ohio football or basketball wrap-up show available anywhere but WOUB is sad. No knock on them, but I think the athletic dept with the help of WOUB could produce a half-hour Ohio football show that could air on TWC SportsChannel or STO or FS-Ohio.
I think it's just a blown opportunity to continue to market and grow the program and get it more exposure.
Even horrible Akron has a Bowden Coaches Show on TV and a Zips Basketball show with Dambrot on DirecTV.
FS-Ohio and STO are both available on DirecTV....that's nationwide exposure to get those shows on there.
We have one of the best journalism schools in the country...why they can't partner with athletic dept and deliver a quality 30-minute show that can be delivered to show on-air across the state (and country via satellite TV) is beyond me? Seems like a gaping hole in their marketing plan.
