As stated above, the vast majority of players are 4 year players. Ohio typically only takes about 3 players a year from JUCO and transfers combined, which is far lower than many/most teams.
With the math the way it is, you can take a max of 25 players a year, and have 85 total on scholarship. If all players stayed for 5 years, and you took 25 a year, you'd have 125 players on scholarship. To get to 85/25, each player can only stay an average of 3.4 years. That is why you're always going to need to see a mix of 5 and 4 year players with 1 and 2 year players.
Ohio has been able to use it's excellent Sports Management program to attract 5th year players the last three years. I expect that to continue, at least unless the NCAA changes the rules.
