Nevermind. Sorry for thread stealing OCF
Well it's easy to do, and I've committed the same sin a number of times myself, so I can't be too holier than thou about it, but I just wanted to see others folk's predictions and not drift off into our usual general BS. ;-)

On the score front I am leaning towards agreement with L.C., with 1 caveat that the "D" could keep WMU slightly below 20, if we can contain their run game.
On the attendance question I would mention that Ohio State plays at night this weekend so there is no conflict there.

I recently received a copy of Cadence - The 110's newsletter - which I didn't know existed so I've not a clue how I got on its distribution. Anyway, this coming Saturday is Band Day, and 110 director Ricky Suk says "nearly 30 bands are signed up." That would be a record. Q: Will all those high school band members count in the attendance total? If yes, with sunshine and crisp temp, I can see 20,000 in Peden.

Ohio 24
WMU 27

I wouldn't be surprised if the score is flip-flopped, but I do not have a good feeling about this game.

Attendance: 20,001

They count.

Sorry, OCF.

I'm sorry, but until we get a healthy QB, I don't think we can out score teams with good offenses.

Our defense hasn't given up 30+ in a game yet this year. Why do you think we will give up that many Saturday?

You all are right about it being Band Day. I wasn't thinking about that. That will help attendance.

I suspect that high school bands have only one uniform.
Yes they do but we should give them blackout tshirts and have them wear that. Like the alumni band. They don't have to go out in full uniform.

Because this team actually has an offense for one. We have been feeding off the inexperience of the other teams offensive weaknesses

It is probably time that our huge advantage in turnovers starts averaging out.

We are living on the edge with our penalties. WMU will take advantage of that.

I hope I'm wrong, time will tell.

I'll move my prediction over here. I don't see Ohio completely stopping WMU, but I think they will slow them, and I think Vick will be more mobile this week, so he'll run a little better and throw much better. I see it Ohio 35, WMU 21. I'll also guess 24,317 for the attendance.

No way we will have that high paid attendance with a noon start. Noon starts hurt attendance here. We will be lucky to have 20000 paid. Actual butt in seats will be 16000-17000.

I guess this bring up a few questions:
1. Does having a winning season attract more total fans, and bring more fans to games? If so, then attendance should be good.
2. Does playing a competitive team where a good, hard fought game is expected bring more fans to games? If so, attendance should be good.
3. Does a game on a Saturday with beautiful fall weather, Sunny and cool but not cold, bring more fans to the game? If so, attendance should be good.
4. Does a noon start really kill attendance? If so, attendance should be poor.

I went with the first three. The team is playing great, the foe will be good, and the weather will be beautiful. The early start sucks, but hey, it will still be a great day for football.

I think Jeff's right-at least as the student turnout's concerned the noon start time is an attendance-killer. I think 20,000 max.

You assume the average fan is going to know that they are good by our standards and not by the Top 25 standards. To any true MAC fan, this is a good team. To the casual observer, this is the team that got smoked by O$U.

I'd point to the Marshall game as a sign that our defense can play against quality opponents. In their other games, they put up 45, 41, 36, 31 and 27. All wins. We held them to 10.

Ohio 37 WMU 29
att: 24,650

On the university website there is under 1,000 tickets remaining for the WMU game. Black Out and Band Day helps. It will be a late arriving student crowd but I don't think it will be off by too much. WMU will hang around enough to keep the game in question in the second half.

They have started a new freshman QB in all those games, I believe. Birdsong who started against us was apparently injured, but I think we have their number as well.

Speaking of Defense... here's a list of all of our FBS opponents to date and their points scored for each game, with the Ohio game noted. Our defense has been relatively good, compared to other defenses against the same opponent.

3/5 Idaho- 9,20,28(Ohio),35,41

1/6 Marshall- 10(Ohio),27,31,36,41,45

5/6 Minnesota- 0,10,17,23,27(Ohio),41

3/6 Akron- 3,7,12(Ohio),35,47,52

2/6 Miami- 0,3(Ohio),14,14,26,33

?/6 WMU- 12,17,24,41,52

So far our defense is averaging just under being the 3rd best in terms of points allowed, if that trend continues on Saturday our defense will give up between 17 and 24pts. If this totally unscientific analysis holds up I like our chances of winning.

This is the game where we see if we're a good five-win team or a team that's been lucky enough to play well against Marshall in addition to beating an FCS team and three pretty terrible FBS teams.

I think Western has too much offensive firepower, but I hope I'm wrong.

I like that 48 - 32 score at the top. What a game!

Also, I predict that very few of the 21,300 people in attendance will wait until 11:45 to enter Peden this week, no matter how many gates are open.

As my Yankee fan friend kept reminding me last week, Yogi said it first, "No one comes here any more, it's too crowded".

Let's see. Phil Steele has us as 12 point favorites now. Which normally would make me feel quite warm and fuzzy. Problem is, two weeks ago, he picked against the spread, against Ohio and made it his "lock" pick of the week in taking Akron over us. (I'm holding a grudge BTW) So, I'm reservedly taking his pick this week.
Gonna be a great crowd and I think we win, but in the vernacular of Frank, I think they will get some explosive plays against us. I just hope they're not SUPER explosive plays that they take to the house.

Note that since the Vegas spread for Ohio-Akron was 2.5, and Ohio won by 2, Steele was correct that Akron would beat the spread, if not correct that Akron would beat Ohio. The Vegas spread for Ohio-WMU is Ohio by 4, and so long as Steele is on the correct side of that spread, I'll be happy.
