Comparing university HC jobs, not cities. Nothing disparaging Athens.

Delusion.

Not sure why our AD would say it. I'd wager he has a better grasp on NIL than any of us. He was complimenting that "Albin did all that with a 10th of our NIL." Don't see the motive. You can forget the "10x" if you need, still more.

your QB1 decided your new coach, and all your points were nonsense.

Hardly. 4 sources of outside opinions that Charlotte is a decently to well viewed HC job. QB1 isn't a HC. QB isn't a rarity in leaving after a coaching change. Players get attached to the coaches that recruited and led them.

[QUOTE=Bobcat Love's Sense of Shame]
no University that isn't in the shadow

Was talking about in the shadow of past coaches. Albin would be in Solich's shadow at OU. The 3rd reference talked about an opportunity to leave "his fingerprints on the program in a way that is not possible at other institutions."

Haha you better get someone to change Wikipedia:

“The basketball team has spent the better part of its history in the shadow of the state's four Atlantic Coast Conference teams. “
Nah, that's true. My point wasn't clear I guess. See prior response. Albin in the shadow of Solich (or someone else at a different job possibly).

Currently, ONLY five (5) FBS programs have won 10+ games in each of the last three seasons (since 2022):

• Georgia
• Ohio University
• Ohio State
• Oregon
• Penn State

I don't see Charlotte State Community College on that list.

Is that list incorrect?

Yeah, that's a bit of a self-own.

Most on here are too young to remember what it is I think of when UNCC basketball is mentioned. I can't help but reminisce about the Niners losing to eventual champion Marquette by 2 points in the final 4 semis. I believe it was just "Charlotte" back then. And who can forget perhaps the best nickname ever in final 4 hoops, Cedric "Cornbread" Maxwell of Charlotte?

And playing on Al McGuire's team was none other than Ulice Payne.

Ah, I hadn't thought to look on this 3rd party ranking of open HC jobs where OU stands. Thanks for reminding me. They rank OU 15, 4 spots behind the now-filled Charlotte job. I take it their list is incorrect?

All good. I'm not here to be an asshole or talk smack. We readily entertain guests from other schools on our message board. This is my first time being the guest, and we have an interesting entanglement with this situation.

Yeah, that's a bit of a self-own.

Speaking of self-own, what I was hoping to convey was that the Charlotte job isn't *that bad* and whoever "let this happen" may not have messed up so much. Isn't it a bit of a self-own to think your coach left such a sweet setup, where he had his whole life in order over 20 years, to go to a "bad", "terrible" job at "pathetic" little ol' "UNCC"? OR, could it be that all these 3rd party professional observers are correct, Charlotte is a decent opportunity, and the great OHIO didn't lose their coach to a tremendously lesser university? I think the latter is a better appraisal.

It's fun that you remember. Even I'm too young to remember (not born yet), but I sure know about it. How far we've fallen! The A10 killed our bball program I'm tellin ya! It was indeed just "UNCC" back in the day. I pray Charlotte can make it back to being competitive in hoops.

I believe we were then given an opportunity to counter offer, which the final version of that came the night before the game and was not accepted, even though the numbers approached what he asked for.

We gave him an offer and it was basically what he asked for? And he wouldn't take it? It's never too late until a contract is signed. Sounds like Albin just wanted out.
The overall package is what he was asking for, or the head coach's salary was?
How comparable was the assistant coach salary pool? The NIL budget? The length of the contract and buyout?

With Belichick at UNC, Alvin’s job just got that much more difficult.

49er, we picked up thousands of fans from Nebraska when we hired Frank Solich. Many of them still loyally follow the program today. I think we should have an inverted version of that with Charlotte fans...you hire away our coach, evaluate the situation and decide Albin was a fool for making this decision and jump to fandom for the university he departed. We'll welcome you in Athens.

He might say that we wronged Albin by not offering him a raise sooner and that we should become Charlotte fans.

I may be in the minority here, but I apologize for the bit of hostility and put downs of your university and your football program. As you can imagine, some people are a little more agitated than usual after the departure of our ex-coach in the middle of the night after one of our best victories in over 1/2 a century. Of course there are a few here who don’t need any excuse to put others down, but that’s another story.
Thanks for coming in peace and telling us a little about a program we certainly don’t know much about.
I wish you and your program the best in the future.

I appreciate the kind words. No hard feelings here. I certainly understand the frustration. I wish yall the best as well.

No comment/opinion on what yall should have done. I think the 3rd party observers indicate it was less "your fault" than some believe.

I certainly think it's more fun to not harbor animus about the situation. As insulting as it may be to some, being a Charlotte 49er, I can greatly relate to your situation and struggles. I don't see why we can't just root for each other (aside from those still mad at Albin). We are hardly competing. I have no "dog" in the MAC at all, and I think I watched my first MAC football game this year. BG vs Toledo if I'm not mistaken. But I'll be keeping an eye on OU and hoping yall win. At least I have a reason to favor a MAC team now.

I always root for non-"power conference" teams over "P5/P4". Even if you don't like us, imagine how much you'd want to beat O$U if they came to your stadium. That's what we've got coming up in game #2 next season against UNC, and now with Belichick. That's at least one game to bury the hatchet about and pull for the Niners.
