been pouring over all of these posts and it's amazing the anger (or fake internet outrage) that people have over coaches and players leaving. This is the environment we are in now. Faking outrage or having real outrage about this seems like a giant waste of energy.
I was in Detroit and the drive back to Cleveland was a breeze. Then I stop for a beer and see that Tim is gone. Did that take the shine off the MAC title? Maybe a little. But I was a student during the Lichtenberg era. This title is worth Tim leaving. I will never fault anybody for doing what is best for him/herself in this era of college athletics.
Live in the moment, celebrate the victories and remember that you are blessed to have attended or be a fan of Ohio University and not the other schools in Oxford, Columbus, Kent, etc.
You must have missed the rumors that Albin had them stop the bus and he got off to attend to a sick dog.
I'm still waiting for more info on this part of the saga. Does anybody know where this rumor started from? Player tweet or something?
Someone created a new account yesterday to say we don't know what he's going through. His dog was so sick he couldn't address the team or ride back to Athens - yet the entire family was drinking in a suite in Detroit and are all in Charlotte a day later.
Hope the dog is okay!
And others on here said he stopped to get cigarettes or milk or whatever, it’s crazy
That was me. I was making an old movie trope about someone's dad leaving. LOL
Told everyone he was going to the corner store to get cigarettes and never came home.
But did he seriously get off the bus? I truly think that is a huge detail that greatly changes my outlook on the guy.
Check out Eric Decker’s Twitter/X feed and you’ll see confirmation.
He also just absolutely torched him in an opinion piece -
https://www.athensmessenger.com/sports/ohiouniversity/col... This is coming from an Athens Messenger reporter who has spoken to Albin more than 99+% of this board and more importantly, I would bet he has had contact with the players.
Thanks for posting, i missed that article. I think a lot of it is on the money. Few people care that he left to the point of blaming him for that or not acknowledging his accomplishments but, as Albin said on day one in Charlotte, and Decker points out, Albin is all about accountability.
Also, the real thing is anyone can be overwhelmed to the point of making a bad choice but it looks like he is just gonna move on like the bad exit didn't happen.
I'm just glad the players won-at least they didn't have to deal with losing their coach two hours after a loss to their rivals and drive home with assistants trying to console them.
I don't want to hear him say three-to-six months from now that it could have happened better. It is meaningless then.
And thumbs down to that tone deaf Charlotte official who, in apparently trying to make the university look blameless for the timing debacle, mentioned something like they didn't announce it earlier out of respect for Ohio. Yeah, thanks for the whole 2 hours post-game to let the victory ending a 56-year drought to sink in. Couldn't wait one more day for this?
At the end i feel a bit sad for Albin too that after two decades and playing the perfect game to end the massive championship drought it ended like this. Whatever happened, I don't believe Albin though it would end like he did.
