BGSU vs Arkansas St
Win the MAC they said. It's worth it they said. You too can play at noon on a weekday against directional southern polytechnic athletic school and a chance to brag about being ranked 83rd nationally.

Why we continue to dump $$$ into this crap is beyond me.

We are probably facing the toughest opponent. Pitt has the name recognition but has lost 5 games in a row. Liberty is in Jacksonville St.’s conference and Jacksonville State won the conference. Ohio’s already beaten South Alabama this year. Jax St. has the best won-loss record of all the MAC Bowl opponents. Of the 8 or 9 conference champions crowned this weekend, 2 of them are playing in the Cure Bowl and we’re one of them. Under normal circumstances this game would be no walk in the park for Ohio.

Edit: and we’ve already played in the Famous Idaho Potato twice. If we were in that game most would be complaining about the location. At least Ohio’s playing in Orlando in December in a 60,000 seat stadium.

Yeah I agree even though Jax state is best record wise, Pitt would be the best matchup. Only thing would flip on this list is Fresno state and Jax state. Fresno only 6-6 wouldn’t really want even though is bigger name. Liberty and Colorado state also bigger names and at 8 wins would take them over win Jax state. Even so have should have motivation to play for a fun last game in Orlando. Have A Chance to be 1st team in school history to have 11 wins, I think. Also first team in school history to end season in top 25, I think. Might be miesing some playing with portal stuff but should still be fun game for seniors and other guys to get experience. Go bobcats

Edit after reading marks post above didn’t realize Liberty was in the same conference so am ok with Jax over them. Also didn’t realize Pitt has lost 5 straight. Still in terms of school size Pitt might be better matchup with bigger name brand but doesn’t seem as bad a choice now. Colorado state in snoop dog bowl might be best just because it’s snoop dog and Colorado state is more well known that jax state. Either way as said above should be fun and would a win would be a good send off for our one of our best seasons ever

If Salter and Cooley opt out, (so-called) "Liberty" would be an easy out.

But if they play, not as easy at all.

There are two teams in that list who received Top 25 votes in the Final Coaches Poll, Ohio and Jacksonville State.

What? You got the first part right. I've always been pretty open about that.

The second part not so much. Don't think I've ever cried about the bball team not being undefeated in December, nor salivated over recruits. Must have me mistaken with somebody else.

Nearly all the bowl games for the G5 conferences are the quid pro quo for ESPN shelling out a ton of money to provide coverage of the schools' athletic programs. They're one way ESPN recoups some of the rights payouts by charging advertisers a bundle to be a part of "Capital One Bowl Week," which is actually more like three weeks. Fan convenience is a secondary, if at all, consideration. The primary purpose is to give ESPN something new to fill time blocks with and to promote the NY6 bowls and the CGP, which are ESPN's real revenue generators, without the usual boring talking heads. (If you watch the replay of the MACCG, you'll notice that most of the announcers' attention during the last half the fourth quarter was about CFP brackets.) If it means having nearly empty stadiums, so be it. That's the way of the world.

Two teams with great seasons and very impressive finishes eager to prove themselves on a national scene, and their reward is to play each other.

To be fair to the announcers in the 4th quarter yesterday, there wasn’t much of a game happening on the field by that point, but I totally agree with you.

To me with the transfer portal now, the bowl games are still good for a few things:

- you get to see the players who have stuck around/exhausted eligibility play one last game for your school. Really looking forward to seeing the career Bobcats play one more time.

- you get to see players from the bench give their best to try and prove to the coaches that they can take those reps next year and try to convince them they don’t need to be focusing on recruiting their position in the portal too much.

- in our case, we get to potentially see the next head coach work and see how he handles the team

- a handful of impact players that could have hit the portal will still play in the game and it will only make you appreciate those guys more.

I will say, if anybody decides to sit out the bowl game this year and later wants to come back after testing the portal I wouldn’t blame them with the coaching situation.

Because its the most popular sport on campus, draws the biggest crowds. Football generates the most national TV appearance to help market the school.

They removed Tim profile from the website.

Brian Smith - Associate Head Coach/ Offensive Coordinator/ Running Backs Coach

is listed as the lead coach, so I assume he will coach us in the bowl game and than we wait to see what the coaching search is following the bowl.

Also it been over 24 hours since the announcement and nothing from ohio side, the only quote we have is from the Charlotte announcement...

"I am beyond excited to begin this new journey at Charlotte and start the process of developing the 49ers into the championship-caliber program we all believe it can and should be," Albin said. "I would like to thank Chancellor Sharon Gaber and Mike Hill for their trust and belief in our future together. I cannot wait to get started."

Albin will be officially introduced to the public on Monday, Dec. 9 at Noon in the third-floor salons inside Halton Arena. The introductory press conference is open to the public and will be streamed live on ESPN+, Charlotte49ers.com, Facebook, and X (formerly Twitter).

So much whining. Gawd awful. I can be a negative nelly too, but not today. No reason for it.

I for one am thrilled. I’m 52 and an almost 30 year ticket holder. I used to post here when this was on the old t-comm site. We sucked for so long. We had a surge under Grobe. Love that guy. Knorr was a good man who couldn’t keep it going. Solich was a Hail Mary that worked and we got 20 years of good football. Not great. Good. I had given up hope of ever being MAC Champs in my lifetime and was resigned to supporting my favorite team and going to bowl games. Better than the previous 30 years of awful. I sat in Peden and watched us lose to Utah State, 5-0, on a cold, rainy day with maybe 900 other people, so I for one will rejoice in OUr MAC Champs playing the CUSA Champs in Orlando. In the warm. In the sun. We will win and finish 11-3 and maybe be ranked around 25th when the dust settles. That’s all a far cry from the awful football I watched while in school 1990-1994.

I predicted 7-5 this year and a bowl win. The part I got right was I said this team would be better at the end bc they would gel. So what the boys did was amazing.

I will complain and moan when the time calls for it. Now is not that time. We have a Conference Champ to go beat in Orlando.

Amen to this! I'm a couple of years younger than you (my sophomore year coincided with Knorr's first home win), but we were so bad for so long, and we lost so many games in Detroit in close succession, that I was pretty sure it would never happen. I certainly didn't think it would happen after losing 50+ guys in the last off season, including 6 starters AFTER Spring camp (and while our former QB lead his new team to the playoffs).

Would it have been nice if the Charlotte news had waited until Sunday morning to leak out? Of course. But--honestly--Tim Albin could have taken a dump on or in Rufus's head, flipped the double birds, and ripped off his OHIO gear on the sideline after the final whistle and I still would have been ecstatic about how the game and season went.

Looks like he is denying rumors about him was set to interview for the West Virginia head coaching vacancy as of Saturday, but he previously served as the Mountaineers’ head coach for seven seasons. He lead the program to unprecedented success with a 60-26 record so it would make sense if he got the job.

After the TV announcers introduce us as "The World Famous Ohio University Bobcats," I imagine they'll have some fun with the fact that both teams are in need of some StaffDNA planning.

It's Elmore Banton. And, I worked with him a few times in my days as a student janitor during the summer. We were not assigned to the same dormitory, but on occasion they would throw student janitors together to work on some special project, and we'd be hauled around campus in the back of a university pickup truck. In those days he was known as "Elmo," but later I heard people calling him just, "Mo." In those days he was quite the character. And, for the record, Jesse Owens never won an NCAA Cross Country championship!
