I have something. We're in REAL trouble if their LBs are anywhere near this ferocious.

"How can the refs call that?" "That was a clean kick to the face-mask."

My guess is since there was no Texas State University in existence at the time of the movie they were able to use that name:

History

Authorized by the Texas Legislature in 1899, Southwest Texas State Normal School opened its doors in 1903. Over the years, the Legislature broadened the institution's scope and changed its name, in succession, to Southwest Texas State Normal College, Southwest Texas State Teachers College, Southwest Texas State College, Southwest Texas State University, and in 2003 to Texas State University. Each name reflects the university's growth from a small teacher preparation institution to a major, multipurpose university. Texas State's original mission was to prepare Texas public school teachers. It became renowned for carrying out this mission, but today it does far more.

Also, we better bring the wood against these other Bobcats as most prognosticators have them in the rear of the Sun Belt:

Do we have a return game in the future with Texas State? I thought I remember reading that somewhere.

Is this the school that LBJ graduated from under one of its former names? I remember that his alma mater had the words "Southwest Texas" in it somewhere.

Funny thing - my wife has a friend, who was supposed to join us for this game, who is a graduate of Texas State. Her degree is from Southwest Texas State prior to the change in 2003.

Here are a couple previews:
http://athlonsports.com/college-football/top-25/texas-sta...
http://www.sbnation.com/college-football/2016/2/29/111201...

Sounds like no one really knows. They have a first year head coach, who at JMU liked the spread-to-run approach. Their QB play is decent at times, but their WR corps is weak. On defense, they're switching to a 3-4 and trying to be more aggressive, but that switch always takes time to gel. They have a solid defensive backfield.

This strikes me as similar to what we saw in our opener at Idaho last year, although maybe with Texas State putting more emphasis on the run than the pass. I'm just fine with that.

14 days!

They are in fact one in the same.

As to prediction: Ohio 42 Texas State 27. Texas State with a new coach will try to be aggressive offensively

Their RB/TE coach is a former Ohio coach under Solich.

Here's their message board- http://bobcatfans.com/forums/viewforum.php?f=22&sid=b0db9...

Looks like there are some fans making the trip to Athens, opening day should be a good environment in Peden for them. They've got a new coach and a young squad so expectations seem to be hopeful but measured. Go Bobcats.

Actually Ron coached under Brian Knorr, not Solich.

I just combed thru several motivational videos and Relentless. WOW! We have a giant gap in the visibility into the preseason and potentially the regular season. I knew Evan Shaw was legendary but looking back on these videos makes me proud of his work again. I hope we have some way to regain that insight and promote the program in the future.

I had to open a bottle of vino to calm myself down. Quality stuff man.

Problem was it was Evan his intern and maybe a student. Under staffed, under budgeted, and every sport wanted there own video and pre-season show. Not hard to figure out why those guys all moved on, and no one following is willing or able to do the 20 hour days for weeks at a pay that was less than $15 an hour.

Texas State is in for a long labor day weekend. This is not going to be like the Idaho game in 2014 where the Vandals were able to hang around inside Peden stadium. The defense is going to dominate on the field and the offense on the clock. 37-3 a score that you'd see against Miami or another FCS opponent is in order here.

And probably have a bunch of good Texas players. How bad can they be?
