Next scrimmage on Tuesday, Windham looked good. Elijah Ball can ball. Emanuelle had some impressive runs. Maleek had some good catch and runs.AJ and Papi, I don't know if they played. Mayne Williams and Stroebel looked good.

Based on the YouTube Russ E. Is back. There had been some speculation after the basketball season that he may be moving on. Glad to hear his voice again.

I like the sound of what I read, and the video. It sounds like Windham has continued to progress. He had a year off, and ended up behind Sprague, but he's been working hard. I'm not very concerned about QB. My bigger concern on offense was the offensive line, and it sounds like it help up well, which is surprising, considering that Ohio's defensive line is the strength of the team.

Does that mean that the defensive line won't be that good? I hardly things so. We've seen all those players, and we know what they can do. Instead, to me it means that Johnson has rebuilt the line, and it's going to be very solid this year.

I stand by my forecast that this is going to be Solich's best team at Ohio yet.

I wondered about Strobel, but, I think 2 sacks vs the 340lb Anderson is telling. I will take that.

I think Strobel will make more of an impact than Heitzman did last year and I thought when healthy he was fantastic. Strobel joined with Sayles, Basham, Aloese, Smart, Porter, Robbins and Laseak are going to be mind-blowingly good. I think Berger will be in the mix as well and we can go deep. Teams will have to pass against us but we can drop Poling, Brown and Moore into coverage more as the D-Line smashes the run game of the opposition. I'm giddy about this D-Line and our linebackers. Just hope our DB's can be better than expected. I see a lot of athleticism out of them and speed so hopefully they step up.

Mayne Williams took on Irons twice and made two open field tackles, he showed his toughness.

The DBs are still a concern, but there are a lot of athletes there. As the season progresses, some will improve more than others, and rise to the top. I expect some early season errors, but by mid-season hopefully those will largely be behind us. I don't think DB will keep this from being a very, very good team.

Papi's interview was good, he said the coaches were being more honest and that is making them better. I love the fact that the coaches are pushing accountability, he said he has to work on the little things. As the the Bobcats fine tune, we can expect better performances. It's ashame that we lost so many DB's in the off season. The good thing is that we were able to move some players around. Incumbents need to be challenged and it looks like the coaches are willing to do that now.

Sprague was absent from practice, to which Solich did not comment. Windham sounds like he had a great day and Maxwell a pretty bad day. Also encouraging the last couple of reports on Zervos at kicker, and it sounds like Jalen Fox has had some nice plays at corner.

2 questions - are all practices open to the public and where do visitors park near Peden for the practices?

All practices are open to the media and I believe to the public as well. Parking is according to OU regulations. There is metered parking available in the lots near Peden.

Thanks, I'm on the way to catch a couple practices this week.

I actually went to practice yesterday and was very surprised to not see JD there but I have no idea how often things like this happen? Has there been any clarity as to why?
The other player I didn't see was Jared McCray is he still with the team?
I parked across the street in a metered space and literally walked around Peden and sat in the bleachers.

Watch for #4 starting about the 7:50 mark. Announcers miss the name at first but this is one of my favorite memories of him. This tackle preserves an in-conference home winning streak going back to 1999.

Hoping he makes some new ones in green!

Scrimmage #2 is set for tomorrow - Thursday 8/18.

In hindsight, I wonder if the news regarding JD leaving the program played a big part in the decision to not hold the scheduled scrimmage the next day.

Some observations from a casual observer about the scrimmage yesterday.
First off - it was hot and I feel for those guys on the field. Unfortunately there were a goodly number who were not on the field- 7 or 8 with just jerseys on- none with casts, boots or crutches. Many others didn't play.

There were about 25 in the stands, including 1 recruit-lineman? - and his parents

The running game was not good and for what it's worth the 2 2 back plays lost yardage.

During the early position drills, our projected starter had more uncatchable throws than the other 3 QB's but the sample size was small

The place kicking game looked pretty good, although I didn't see many deep kickoffs when lined up.

I'm concerned a little about punt protection since it looked to me that a large number of the punts could have been blocked with a little more effort.

A J 's mullet is hilarious.

-Ball looked really blasted on his last catch. He wobbled off, but he was really sandwiched by 2 guys.

Peden is still looking drab, particularly the student side. I know there a lot of other needs on campus, but at least a coat of new paint would do wonders. I'll volunteer to help.

Overall, I still have no idea what to expect this year. Lots of question marks for me. Hoping for some pleasant surprises.

All casual observer comments, nothing more.

Morning practice
19 players on sidelines, another in pads but basically can't move
Walkon QB not here
2 of 6 TE's held out
New RB Emmanuele has calves bigger than Irons, he is a stocky dude. Looks pretty good to me

Favorite part of practice is having the coach 5 feet away with the bull horn blowing just as the punter is kicking. Pretty funny.

So many guys held out with injuries with only two scrimmages held, with not much live hitting. I wonder how we'll hold up in the ferocity of live-game hitting.
