Is that possible? After driving from Cinci and watching a 15 hour game I may just have to call it what it is.....many things I witnessed from the time I arrived in Athens to the time I left have me wondering.

Many are nothing new. I need to sleep on this one and come to grips with all I observed. Not that anyone cares BTW. Just need to analyze for my own sanity after 30+ years of bleeding green.

As I struggle to stay awake, I do know this: we do not have the "Best Fans in the MAC."

Can we stop that please? I give major props to the 127 students that stayed after halftime and they made some noise. The other 2K+ are clueless.

I was very encouraged in the 1st half as I saw a packed student side. And then came post halftime....what in the hell else is there to do at 5:30 in Athens that you leave a college football game? Embarrassing.

The best fans in the MAC may say a lot more about the MAC than about our great fans.

Agree about the best fan crap...it is a joke. One side leaves and one doesn't stand or cheer much! My 12 year old grandsons saw their first Bobcat game and rated the "atmosphere" about a 4 or 5. They did like the last 10 minutes and OT.

Then, of course, everyone bows down to get on TV. A 7pm start might have kept a few more students around.

Winning cures 'fan' complaints. Losing Solich-style grows them.

Here goes...first cup of coffee in progress. Still feeling the loss and have to golf today with a UK Fan and Luckeye Fan. Not going to be fun. I'll be hearing it for 18 holes as to "where is Texas State?" At least the UK guy can't gloat too much. Anyway....

- As I arrive into town, I see the same poster board signs for parking that look like they were born out of a 1st grade art contest. Clown Fact #1.

- I didn't spring for the Bobcat Club this year. Thus, I was directed over near the Cat's Den to park. Zero tailgating there. That's on me.

- Uptown buzzing and campus packed. Very nice. Saw very few Suckeye Jersey's but that may have been due to the fact the sheep were already in bars watching.

- As the Cats took the field, I was impressed by some of the size of our boys. Many passed the eye test for sure. Texas State had more energy and it looked to me they were very small (Oompa Loomp's came to mind). We are playing Texas State! Clown Fact #2.

- As I sit down, I hear local guy Cleatus talking with local guy in $2 Luckeye Jersey about how great they will be for the next 20 years. Then the Joey Burrow quiz comes up (again) and how he saw the field and threw a TD pass. Throw in local business owners wearing O$U junk and it gets silly. Clown Fact #3. You will never convince me it's OK for a coach’s son to attend another school. The trickledown effect of having the local Athens kid in Columbus just bleeds clown school mentality. I didn't forget about the other coach’s son who "pimped" us for NW. Go WMU!

- There were too many in-game items to list. The good news is the Buckeye Bob and Cleatus left after halftime along with most of section where I sat. I literally stretched out laying down in my row. Clown Fact #4.

- Students leaving in masses after band plays. I didn't know about the heat causing issues. I certainly don't want to poke fun at something serious. That said, it's not something I see at other schools. So I have to issue Clown Fact #5 here. I am still amazed when I hear current students discussing leaving after the band plays. Just what we want to be known for (NOT)!

- The overall feel on the Tower Side just looks and smells like Junior Varsity caliber Fans. Not engaged or really giving a sh!t what is going on in the first half. Clown Fact #6. For those that stayed, my hats are off to them. How do you change culture long term? I've tried to do so for 30+ years in any little way I could. It's takes a village to make it happen. Frank's done an admirable job trying to do so by winning. Can't lose to Texas State.

I'm not going to bash players. I respect and appreciate their decision to come to Athens and the fact parents read some of these rants (including mine). Keeping it vanilla (like our first half play calling), our secondary will need to improve. I know we lost a lot there. I just can't take seeing CB's play 15 yards off the WR time and time again with the results the same. Clearly NWSW East Texas State knew that and got rid of the ball quick to offset a pretty decent pass rush. Timing patterns all day to the sidelines.

Penalties, dropped passes, balls behind WR's and critical TO's were just too painful to watch. Losing AJ is a bummer but Irons and Brown are more than enough for any D to handle. That said, O-line needs to improve in just about every aspect. I did feel good about the kicking game (not kidding).

We can say it's early and these things happen with players getting their first starts in key positions. Very true in many ways. Is the sky falling? Hell I don't know but I've seen this movie before. I guess I'll tell myself we hid our "cool playbook" under the Burrito Buggy and next week will be different. I'll tell myself we kept our defensive stunts to a more "vanilla" approach as to not show our hand.

As I leave to hopefully enjoy a round of golf, we still lost at home to NWSW Eastern Oklahoma just North of Albuquerque Texas State.

On to Kansas!

As long as we're discussing the overall experience and atmosphere, is it just me or did the cat growling sound effect get played at least once when the visiting team got a first down? I'd watch the game again from my DVR to confirm, but I don't want to lose my breakfast.

I choose to disagree with Clown Fact #5

They came...that is all anyone should expect.

If I'm a freshman/sophomore on a dining pass, I'm not blowing $7 bucks to eat up town when my parents/loans already got me a meal. Hold a game during dining hours, especially when the next meal isn't until breakfast 14 hours later then admin should give them free food during the fourth quarter. Time of the game and length of the first half was not a good combination.

I recall several years back that many students stick around when the game is of importance; this one only has bearing on a bowl invite with 11 more to go.

It gets so miserably hot on the student side when the sun's out for these early games. No shade. Poorly designed.

A lot of tough realities to face with this program right now. But remember all it takes is winning to get back on board. Dont forget the HUGE crowds in 2011-2013 for the blackout game, Homecoming (vs Akron), and Marshall.

Additional evidence of global warming since 1929. Somehow we played games at 1 and 2 every Saturday afternoon for 70 years in that miserably hot weather.

If you've sat over there for a hot game, you'd realize he's not joking. Was over there for about 10 min. to visit a friend yesterday and it was brutal. EMS was with a student that had passed out under the stands.

Fast forward some weeks when the heat and sun are no longer a factor.

Let's see the level of our play and the level and 'stayability' of our turnout.

As a student here at OU, Monroe is absolutely correct. People only go to see the band play. I must have heard 3-4 groups of kids talking about leaving after half because they don't really care about the football team. Really challenging to love your universities football program if the band is your biggest lure on Saturdays. Students go to OSU for the football team. Students go to OU for the...parties and band apparently
