Lowpoint of Solich era?

Blow 10pt 4Q lead?

Blow 3pt lead in last :38?

21pt faves?

This was bad on so many levels. Total embarrassment.

Please don't try to spin any postives from this.

Don't forget just having a 3rd and 3(or was it 2) in OT and just needing a TD to end it and we fail miserably.

The defense was supposed to be strength of this team. The maturity was supposed to be a strength of this team. Kudos to Texas State for exploiting the depleted secondary, but it should have never got to that point. There's no excuse for this loss. None.

For a moment I thought I had been transported back in time and we were playing Knorr ball, or better yet, Lichty ball.

Maybe the run defense. Most everybody worried a little or a lot about the defensive backfield.
Going to be a long season.

There are some positives, the team did keep fighting. They just made way too many mistakes.

In college football, one way fans often go very wrong is by concluding too much from a mistake-riddled game 1. Let's see a few more games. Texas State did not look terrible to me, I think they're going to win some games.

Ohio definitely has athletes. In terms of raw talent this is as good a squad as I've seen from a Solich Ohio team. Today, they just weren't anything close to sharp enough.

All the goals are still available. So, no excuse for the team to stop fighting. Let's see what they show us.

Good insights. I'll see how they do at Kansas before I see no hope.

I'd normally agree with this and will probably step back off the ledge by tomorrow. But cmon. Ohio was the clear favorite in this game. It's hard not to be upset about this.

If the few specifics in the initial posts in this thread bother you, wait until I get around to my long list--you'll really be bothered....it'll be, BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE!

It's true. Today was one game and we can turn the season around.

But you have to be worried after today.

Let me disabuse, knock you off one assertion: We do not have much talent. We've shown that year after year. Beside Poling, who wasn't remarkable today, no one game after game is a stud.

You are delusional if you think that our talent is much in the way of pretty darn good.

Just tell me today...or pick some games (more than one)from the past few years...in which one guy just kept making plays, kept getting it done.

There's a reason we don't have guys voted to the top of the All-MAC teams.

Knorr also gave up the same amount of points resulting in the same result. The name of the game is to out-score your opponents. Unfortunately, you kind of have to stop the opposing team too.

Hard not to feel like the sky has fallen.

Miserable home loss to a cellar-dwelling Sun Belt team. Ouellette with significant injury. Returning starter at QB has already had to retire. Defense gives up more points than our basketball team would. Dreadful play calling and poise in key moments. The team spit the bit.

Main goal for the next three games: No more freaking injuries. I can't stand another year where we have the whole team hurt before league play even begins. Just treat this like an NFL preseason and go 1-3. (Assuming we can actually beat Gardner-Webb.)

If/when we lose at Miami, we can pull the plug on the season. And really -- even though I was impressed with the response late last season -- it appears we need to reset with young blood. How come so many other MAC schools can win with up-and-comers and we must stagnate with our stable staff?

For those of us old enough to remember Coach Lichtenberg and Coach Knorr, I would much rather prefer Coach Lichtenberg, for a variety of reasons. However it is somewhat akin to saying would you rather be the 102nd best team or the 117th best team in the nation.

It seems to me a few years back the powers that be at Ohio decided, unlike the Toledo's and the Western Michigan's of the world, they were not going to enter the MAC football arms race. We have let it be known during recruiting season that we will never pull out all the stops to recruit talent we don't believe we will ever get. Some of the top recruits at Toledo and Western Michigan would probably never consider coming to Athens.

Although we are perhaps the most rural school in the MAC as far as media markets go, we have the history and attendance that most MAC schools envy. It doesn't have to be this way, but perhaps some at the top think this is as good as it gets for football. I sure hope not, but sometimes I wonder. The coaching staff is doing a good job with little talent, but why not recruit better talent? It is like someone complaining that the pizza place they go to is the worst in the town, never stopping to think if they paid a buck or two more, the pizza place down the street would be an oh so much better alternative. We have the history, tradition and attendance to shoot for better talent.

At some point I think the recruiting comes down to the coaches we have on staff and the schemes we run. Maybe we get them to a game or they see Ohio on TV and think, "I don't fit there."

More and more when I think about this program, it's like the old scouts in the room in the movie "Moneyball." And Billy Beane (some of us fans) are just banging our head against a wall.

Recruiting threads haven't had a new post about progress made re recruits for what seems like months. Total silence.

11+ years of this recruiting staff, with the last 3.5 or so years being not good, filled with crashing losses.

But, sure, years 12 and onward are going to change, going to be markedly better.

Ha-none!

It is always gut-wrenching for me when a program seems to graduate a great QB and then doesn't seem to miss a beat with next man up. I know Western Kentucky had a great QB graduate last year. What does the next guy up do? Throw for 500+ yards in his first game.

Yeah no kidding. Or how about what Toledo did to Arkansas State? Things change at Toledo and it's the same good team beating a good Arkansas State team expected to contend for the Sun Belt.

Well there are the two that have already committed for 2017. If they were watching they saw a Windham throw for 380, hand off to backs who tallied 260, work behind an OL that allowed 0 sacks and participate in 791 all-purpose yards.
