Saw an ESPN alert earlier that said that both the MAC officiating crew as well as the Big 12 replay crew have been suspended two games for fumbling the end of the game. Although, truth be told, it was nice to see the opponent of the MAC team bear the brunt of poor officiating, it usually seems to be the other way around...

The crazy thing is that CMU really should have never been in that position in the first place. They were up 24-20 and picked off Oklahoma State in the end zone with under 7 minutes to play. They fumbled the very next play and the Cowboys eventually scored.

Once Cooper Rush threw the INT to essentially end the game, I flipped the channel because I thought there was no way they would get the ball back.

That play, btw, just put a HUGE wrinkle in Hail Mary passes. You basically have to cover with 10 guys and let one guy rush the passer. It wasn't really bad coverage by OkSt. They didn't let a guy get behind them. It was just a great play design by CMU.
Lou Holtz said exactly the opposite today on Sirius, he says rush more guys not less, reasoning being you can't let him just have all the time he needs

If this is a dumb question, I apologize, but why were MAC officials used at a Big XII stadium? Was it a MAC crew that called the delay of game at Minnesota on the FG kick after the timeout?

It's all in the contract and how it is written, often times there is a bit higher payout if you use your own conferences officials. This is standard procedure. But very common for the visiting non-conference opponent to have the officials, and the home conference replay crews work. If it's a G5 v G5 a lot of times it will be a 3rd party crew from another conference.

When the MAC v Big10 meet up its really a non-issue as the MAC and Big10 are under the direction of the same group.

Thanks for clarifying this issue. I do know I see a lot of the same guys who work MAC games in Athens working B1G+ games on TV.

You will see some Big10 guys early in the year on a MAC game here and there, but the Valley feeds the MAC which feeds the Big10, and all are under the direction of the same assignor a and Director of Officiating Development
