There's no disputing that Albin did a good job here. While I'm not an insider, I am very familiar with contracts and negotiations. Maybe there were hurt feelings somewhere, but as I understand the basic facts...

We had him on contract through 2026, a contract to which he as a party. That did not stop him from shopping for a better deal. It has been posted that the administration offered him a similar deal, a deal which was beyond the ADs authority to unilaterally offer. While there are several accounts of the timing of the offer, it does demonstrate a level of good faith.

Albin is 60ish years old, and according to the Charlotte presser, has vacationed at Lake Norman at least a couple times.

I predict he'll apply that new contract toward a comfortable retirement on Lake Norman, which is probably what he wanted in the first place.

Just because he's a good coach, and by most accounts, a great guy, doesn't mean that his departure wasn't a colossal exercise in bad judgment. One that will affect his reputation here for quite some time. I would at least hope that Albin is pressing to find the source of the leak that led to his dumpster fire departure.

I hope that the players know how much we appreciate their efforts, dedication, and historical victory in the conference championship.

Time to move on. Let's hire Brian and keep the program moving in the right direction.

Hmm, one good game...
1. Was it Buffalo? They were 6-2 in the MAC, and their only other conference loss was by 7 points, and Ohio beat them by an embarrassing 31 points.
2. Maybe it was Ball State? While Ball State didn't win many, they kept it close in most games. Ohio destroyed them, and led 35-7 before garbage time.
3. Maybe Akron? Akron had wins over EMU and Toledo, and stayed close to Buffalo, NIU, BG, and WMU. The only team that blew them out was Ohio.
4. I suppose it could have been Toledo, but Ohio didn't beat them any worse than Buffalo and BG did.
5. EMU wasn't a bad team either, but Ohio handed them their biggest conference loss, by 25 points. Of course, Miami beat them by 24, so I guess 25 isn't that impressive...
6. Kent? Sure, everyone beat them, but Ohio did put up a 41-0 victory, their worst defeat of the year, and Ohio could have score more, had they wanted to.

Hmm, I'll go with Buffalo as the biggest win, because it was coming off a loss, and had to be won get to the MACC, and they not only won it, they totally crushed a good team.

There are questions that certainly need answered. Julie and the Pres seem close. I saw them hanging at the game. I’m still sick that this is the situation Ohio finds itself in. Lost a great coach kept that AD.

The relationship became strained because she showed no respect to the man. How do you allow the 2 time MAC Coach of the Year, one of five coaches to win 10 consecutive games three consecutive seasons and no MAC coach has won more conference games than Coach Albin the last four years to walk out the door?

It is you, and a few others, stating with no actual facts, that the relationship was "strained". If that is FACT, they WHY did Albin, virtually every time he was on the air, thank Cromer and Gonsalez?

It was Toledo @ Toledo. No other win (Save maybe South Alabama with their backup QB) was really that impressive. You made the point perfectly by listing those 6 wins - which if you really have it in perspective - are not impressive. Miami was a trainwreck of a performance. Kentucky might have been worse, and Syracuse was Coaching Malpractice. He had a contract through '26 and we were underdogs in the MAC Championship....why the hell would you race to reward him??????

Perhaps you have forgotten, but Ohio started the year with over 50 new players that had to be molded into a team. Game by game they improved. Yes, there were rough spots early on, but by the end of the season, this was a very, very good team. Hate on Albin for leaving, if you want. Hate on Cromer, too. But, don't deny that this was a team that improved a lot, one that significantly outperformed expectations, and one that put in a lot of special performances in must-win scenarios. If you don't want to credit Albin, you should still credit the players who accomplished that improvement, and who won a MAC Championship. They deserve better.

Feel free to believe that Ohio is a P4 team, and that they should win every MAC game, and a world where a 30 point win is not good enough to be a "good win". Some of us enjoy every win, and understand that while Ohio can be better than an average MAC team, they can also be worse than average.

OHIO did not let the "coach of the 2024 Conference Champions walk out the door". This is vehemently incorrect. He chose to walk out the door. This was not OHIO ending the contract. Quite the opposite. They offered him a raise and extension on his contract. While the numbers may not have been to his liking, we did not let him walk out the door, anymore than BGSU let Urban Meyer 'walk out the door' when he went to Utah or when we let John Groce 'walk out the door' to Illinois. No, the only example of this was when we let Saul Phillips 'walk out the door' when his contract expired and OHIO did not choose to renegotiate to have him continue.

It seems you're letting Tim Albin off the hook quite easily without any actual first-hand knowledge, just some posts you've read that fit your narrative. What we do know without question is that he left the team within 24 hours of winning the conference championship and left the team bus without addressing the team yet about information they would soon learn through Internet leaks. We know he complained last year about players entering the portal before the bowl game. The fact that these are our only indisputable facts and yet you're choosing to blame the AD instead of him in any capacity is confusing.

Coach was here 20 years. His kids are grown. he was ready to go and someone offered him more money. Again, super pi$$ed about how Saturday's announcement went but it's his choice to leave. Successful MAC coaches leave for more money. All the news that's fit to print.

YES! Conjecture. Kindly state to everyone here how and why it's Cromer's fault based on FACTS.

Since you are conjecturing maybe we all should. Rumor has it he had agreed to the UNC-Charlotte offer a week prior to the MAC Championship. If Miami had beaten us a second time, he'd still have the UNC-Charlotte job. Short of Cromer and Gonzalez having a chat during the Miami game as we clearly dominated, it likely would have come up short, as in too little, too late. He CHOSE to leave prior to the MAC Championship. I thank him for his years in Athens, but his hypocrisy is startling. And I am talking of his total disdain for players who entered the portal prior to a bowl game. He CHOSE to leave prior to not a bowl game, but a game more important than our bowl game.

But it didn't "come out of nowhere". Not sure if you watched the UNCC livestream welcoming Albin as coach but they said they held off announcing it out of respect for Ohio. Thus, it was a done deal before kickoff against Miami.

I suspect he wanted more $$$$ in terms of compensation and more NIL $$$ than he'd ever get in Athens. Sounds like he'll have his work cut out given guys entering the portal there.

People can form their own opinions but people need to learn between facts and opinions.

Facts:
Albin was offered the HC job in July 2021 and signed the contract.
Albin was offered an extension/raise and signed it in March 2023 following the 2022 season where he advanced to the MACC and was named MAC COTY.
Albin was offered an extension/raise in Dec. 2024 following being named MAC COTY and (reportedly before) winning MAC title, but signed with Charlotte instead.

I just have a few questions based on facts. Every time Albin won MAC COTY he was offered an extension. The AD offered Albin three contracts over the course of three years and five months. That is an average of a new contract less than every 14 months! Why is that considered disrespectful? If the previous contracts were so disrespectful, why on earth did he sign them? Seems like a lot of damage control to protect his legacy, based on the Saturday fiasco, but that's just my opinion.

What I posted was that, if Albin left because of how JC hnadled the situation,
she deserves to be fired.
There have been posts on Ba backing that up.
Bobcat 1996 posted that she showed no respect to Albin even with his record.

If Albin got poached to school like Michigan Sate or Purdue I can see dropping everything and leaving.

Had to read up on why Charlotte is the 3rd fastest growing city in the US. Seems like that area of the country is spending money and the 49ers don't want to get left behind. There are some good articles out there, especially with projects addressing their infrastructure needs. And with Belichick on the schedule now, I definitely will be rooting for Coach Albin against UNC.

At the end of the day Albin moved on and nothing is going to change that. Granted how he left was less than professional, but he’s gone none the less. He’s really just another footnote in a list of coaches who have left their programs while STILL under contract as it’s just a given that those contracts are not worth the paper they’re written on. Tough to rag on players leaving programs in this new WildWest of portal/NIL environment when the coaching profession has been essentially whoring themselves out for the bigger buck somewhere else for decades. This is especially true in the MAC. The Albin deal just again proves that there is NO honor amongst thieves in our sacred, respected “ higher” institutions of “learning”!!!

What, should we have hired a Asst Athletic Diector of Coaches Ego?

Anyone that has questioned why albin did not ride the bus home, go look at the Facebook page Ohio Bobcat PrOUd.
