Employees have the right to leave anytime they choose, regardless of how inconvenient it is to their employer. I think a coach that leaves before their season is over has the right to do that, but also shows what kind of integrity they have.

I guess I don't disagree with this. I'm more in the camp of the NCAA allowing competitor schools to make contact to hire away a coach while he or she is still in the middle of their season. There should be NCAA rules in place to prevent this just like there are NCAA rules in place about contacting recruits. We're talking about the difference of 3 weeks in many cases.
Here comes the attorney in me. The difference between most employees and coaches is the existence of an employment contract. I'm sure there are provisions in each coach's contract that deal with this sort of thing. Buyout provisions; non-compete clauses; maybe even provisions requiring a coach to stay through the end of a season (unless, of course, he or she is fired mid-season, which smacks of unfairness). Also, if a school talks to another school's coach without permission, I think that's an NCAA violation, and certainly would open the school for liability for tortious interference in the coach's employment contract.

Read somewhere yesterday that LSU still owes Miles somewhere in the neighborhood of $11-13 million. The amount of money the big schools make is insane.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Miles take a year off and then end up at some school like Purdue or NC State.

LSU is probably the only school crazy enough to hire Art Briles too. So they probably deserve each other.
LSU's OC Cam Cameron, also fired, made more money last year ($1.5 million) than our entire coaching staff, and because he had a 3 year deal, I believe he will keep receiving his pay for the next two seasons.

LSU (and the entire Louisiana state government for that matter) is not in the best financial shape right now either.
What a dreadful waste of money. 11 million is enough to fund an IPF.

Not in the SEC, that will redo a locker room maybe. The arms race at that level is staggering.

I read somewhere that the Iowa strength coach is making in excess of $600K.
