So, essentially, Memphis > ohio state

No, essentially BG just really, really sucks.

Offensive starters for BG, 9 of 11 are 4th/5th year players. Boggles the mind.

Well, they lost a lot. I looked at their starting lineup from their Bowl game as compared to their starting lineup against MTSU. Only 3 of 11 names are the same and all 3 are OL. Given some of the scores in their games last year, hard to believe that backup Knapke only threw 20 passes all of last season.

Lost
QB Matt Johnson - 353 YPG passing (Almost 5,000 on the season), 46 TDs, 8 INTs, MAC Offensive Player of the Year
RB Travis Greene - 5.8 YPC, 1,299 yards and 15 TDs, First Team All-MAC
WR Gehrig Dieter - 94 catches for 1,033 yards and 10 TDs
WR Roger Lewis - 85 catches for 1,544 yards and 16 TDs, First Team All-MAC
WR Ryan Burbrink - 56 catches for 627 yards and 4 TDs, Third Team All-MAC Punt Returner
OL Alex Huettel - Second Team All-MAC
OL Jacob Bennett - Second Team All-MAC

It's weird, because usually the drop off comes a couple of years after the competent coach leaves. The good habits seem to stay baked-in the former players at least for a little while.

To be fair, this is BG's 3rd head coach and coaching staff in the last 4 seasons. That is a huge amount of turnover and change in a very, very short period of time. When you considered Ohio has had pretty much the same core coaching staff during the entire Solich era, you can imagine how that much change could be hard on players with different schemes, plays and the daily operations changing all the time. They are also played 3 teams that will challenge/win conference championships this year in the Big 10 (OSU), CUSA (MTSU) & AAC (Memphis). But still, after being really good the last several years, it's hard to think BG is that bad now. But their losses were huge, especially the playmakers they lost on offense and a good head coach. One thing is for sure, there will not be a BG-NIU matchup in the MACC again this year for the 4th straight time. You can book that.

I don't want to be that school that does things like this... but if we get rolling, this is one instance where I won't be upset if we hang 70 on a team.

That said, I just don't think we are capable of scoring 70 on anyone.
We won't score 70 on any team because Frank will not allow it. Once he has a comfortable lead, he goes into run-the-clock mode. Now, if the other team had scored 65 points, then Frank would be trying to get to 70, but if he'd got a three TD or better lead he's not going to run up the score. That's just not what he's all about! ;-)
