Now I am a glass half full kinda guy. I will proudly tell anyone how few students wore Bobcat apparel around campus and back home compared to 2016. I will regale the youngsters of how my roommate and me actually counted the number of people in the stands in the 2nd half of the 1986 season ending game with Northern Illinois, in which we won our only game of the season. At the conclusion of the game, there weren't enough students to tear down the goal posts, though a valiant effort was put forth.
Now we have ESPN TV coverage and title shots, complete with a trip to Ford Field and a bowl game birth. It gives me great pride to see how far we come, but looking at the Western Michigan crowd in a post Thanksgiving game compared to our paltry crowd last Tuesday (paltry might be generous,) we still have a ways to go. I dare say you will see as many people or more at a regional high school playoff game with a traditional power like Cincy St. Xavier, Cleveland St. Ignatius, or Columbus St. Francis DeSales. The Western Michigan game day ESPN crowd last week and their crowd this week gives us something for which to strive.
