All over the local news, along with heroin, escape and other charges. Said to be now in custody, having turned himself in at the Athens court today.

Shades of Michael Hinton, Kyle Kozak and William Johnson, though Johnson didn't have prior incidents (AFAIK) before Solich brought him here.

Why does this keep happening? Shades of a rhetorical question, I suppose.

I suppose it is rhetorical. If you take a random sample of 120 male college students, you'll find a certain percentage get in trouble. It's been pretty quiet for the most part since 2006, though. In any case, there are set policies in place for what disciplinary action will be taken, and I'm sure those will be followed.

Wow, just wow! If I'm Akron from afar, I'm looking at Ohio and thinking Ohio's imploding, when this news is coupled with that of Toran Davis.

Wins are important but integrity's more important. If I'm Coach Solich, both players are off the team, pronto. Send a message and send it now. Too harsh on Davis? Maybe.

It's probably me more than anything else; I just don't have any patience or tolerance for this 💩.

As I said, back in 2006 the University drafted a very specific discipline policy for situations like this, and I'm sure it will be followed. As for Davis, I'm pretty sure that the first alcohol offense is some sort of suspension, and the second offense is being suspended from the University for a year, not just the football team.

That policy has been lifted, was instituted by the last AD.

Yeah maybe I'm too harsh on Davis. I would suspend him for the rest of the year, MACC and bowl game included.

Wilson? Jail works (if found guilty, obviously).

This guy is not on the team, so not to sure what the big deal is as far as OHIO Football is concerned.

Wilson was a transfer from Iowa. He announced the transfer to Ohio back in March of 2014. He sat out 2014, but as I recall, left the team before the 2015 Spring camp. He never played for Ohio.

Thanks, BTC. I didn't realize that policy was no longer in effect.

Because Ohio Football brought him to Athens, where he allegedly raped an Ohio co-ed.

Just like Ohio Football brought Omar Leftwich to Athens. Right now, he's in jail in Nelsonville awaiting trial on charges of aggravated robbery, tampering with evidence and falsification. This is after doing a prison term for burglary and drug possession.

Just like Ohio Football brought William Johnson to Athens. Right now, he's in prison in Nelsonville doing a term for two counts of aggravated robbery.

Sort of like Thaddeus Basham. He came to Athens because of his brother and, reportedly, to try out for the team. Right now, he's in prison in Nelsonville doing a term for two counts of aggravated robbery.

BillyTheCat, do you live in Athens?

No, and OHIO Football may have brought these students to Athens, but they were not part of the team. OHIO University brings a lot of people to Athens, some of them are just not good people.

If I have an agenda, there are three parts to it:

1. Letting people know how the football program under Solich has contributed significantly to Athens becoming noticeably more crime-ridden, violent, drug-infested, teeming with impaired drivers and clogged in the justice system and court dockets.

2. Doing what members of the news media in a normal city of 20,000 to 30,000 people would routinely do if they did their jobs.

3. Helping to understand why the football team is OK but not very good. I'd love for them to win a championship and meaningful bowl games and not suffer mysterious slumps and disappointments year after year. Everyone talks about Albin and the playcalling, and there is that, but I sincerely believe that discipline is a major, longstanding deficit and frequent distraction.

Toran Davis missing a half against a CMU team that can't run the ball with a MAC championship possibly on the line, and Ohio loses by seven. Boo Jackson getting badly beaten up at a bar late in the season. Greg Windham missing a year of development due to a felony drug conviction. Lorenzo Fisher not fulfilling his potential at cornerback for similar reasons. Maleek Irons missing time for theft, and the fans don't know why. Addrell Taylor getting arrested multiple times and thrown off the team before he ever sees the field. It's almost a rite of passage on these teams to get a disorderly conduct, underage consumption or pot bust. Numerous DUI and assault charges. How good could they be without all this stuff? How does it affect morale among the players who do things right?

IMHO, some of it is Athens, but some of it is who Solich recruits and how infractions are dealt with. Over time, it must become known among student-athletes that Athens/OU is an off-the-hook party atmosphere where you can get in trouble but keep playing. I get it - you arrive on a college campus with your personality basically formed. Maybe it's not that pretty of a picture at the high school level in many or most locales. But bringing in a guy like Cameron Wilson, with prior alcohol-related incidents at Iowa, just doesn't seem to pay off most of the time. BTW, Wilson's attorney says he's gotten clean and is turning things around. I hope he's innocent and his attorney's right. None of us are saints.

There are many people associated with the program who are real assets to this community. For example, Brendan Cope is a nice guy. Dwayne Dixon is terrific. He could probably motivate a tiger to change its stripes. I'd drop everything to help him out, and I've only met him a few times. Notice the receivers almost never get in trouble and are consistently good.

So, you decide. Am I a "troll" with an "agenda," or a longtime, knowledgeable fan from Athens who wants things to be better and thinks a coaching change would likely help on multiple levels?

Not that it makes it OK, but I really don't think Ohio has any more of a problem than the average football program.

When Ohio Football sends its people, they’re not sending their best. They’re not sending you. They’re sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people.

I would build a great wall. And nobody builds walls better than me, believe me. And I’ll build them very inexpensively. I will build a great great wall on the southern border of Peden Stadium and I’ll have Miami pay for that wall. They don’t know it yet, but they’re going to pay for the wall.

What is wrong with the criticism? I think Bitchy brings up some good points. Obviously you can never hit 100%, but just because you can't doesn't mean that you shouldn't be held accountable when you don't. The Boo Jackson comparison is stupid though comparing that to robbery charges. That just makes you seem to think that you are holier than holy.

Here is the info that would help us determine how guilty Solich and Company are. What knowledge did they have of the situations and what did they do to help prevent it? If the NCAA ever decided to cut back on their practice hours, maybe there would be more time for human development.

“That was a mistake recruiting that guy. I’m sorry about that. I take full responsibility. And I’m trying to be as transparent as I possibly can. Obviously, I don’t like hearing that fans think I'm a liar. But, I am confident by the end of this football campaign, fans will know they can trust me, and that I will be on their side and I will fight for them and their families. But I do think I could have and should have done a better job answering questions about my recruiting strategy earlier. I really didn’t, perhaps, appreciate the need to do that.”

Bitchy,

Over the time span you cite (since 2006), isn't this true for *all* of southeastern Ohio?

Or, Huntington WV?

Is Ohio Football responsible for the decline of Huntington, too?

Or is it reflective of the greater society as a whole?

Just $0.02...
