Impressive game by Ohio, I thought. Stout defense, made enough plays on offense to be in it at the end. This wasn't a situation where Ohio choked or anything, they just came up a little short against a very good team.

I wish our team tackled as well as Ohio did.
Per the commentator, Mack Brown, 33 & 32 are the MAC's top two LBs as rated by the NFL. Not sure how that can be given this board's expert assures us Ohio's staff can not recruit or coach. Oh. will NIU be back next season?

Very proud of the effort, just needed a couple of more bounces to go our way. Hopefully this will carry over to the bowl game. If there is a bowl game let down, I wonder how long it will be until Solich's seat gets hot.

What is the answer?

OHIO with the ball before half, content to kill clock and avoid a TO. Is that the right strategy? It would have been if it had worked but it didn't--imagine not giving up 7 to end the half. Seeing how Windham moved them in the minus two minute drill at the end, it sure would have been nice to give that a try in the first half. Of course the drive ended in the dreaded TO that you wouldn't have wanted in the first half but as I said earlier the actual strategy didn't keep WMU from the difference maker in the game.

When do you try and score before the half and when do you try and kill the clock and let your defense keep the opponent off the board for another score?

Belichick has always preached that the number one priority is to not give the ball back to the opponent if you get possession near the end of the half. Second objective is to score. Of course it helps on both counts to have Brady.

What a fantastic effort! Playing a top-rated team in a hostile environment, they could easily have folded in the second half but didn't. This team has plenty of heart, and showed it tonight. Proud of this team.

Didn't expect to see PJ sweating bullets in the last minute but our guys had him definitely worried. Second-lowest point total this season for WMU, and lowest among MAC teams. It'll be interesting to see how the committee views this.

Would've liked to have seen more innovative play calling, especially when it became obvious that anybody UTM wasn't working. Reverses, end runs or flea-flickers would've helped keep WMU off balance. Let's open things up in the bowl game.
Though Windham downfield was the best chance. Wide plays just were going to get run down. A few more completions, better throws, to Papi and this has a different ending. Not saying Ohio threw the game away, credit to Western, too much Terrell & Davis.

Accuracy cost us at least 10 points, but Windham had not played in weeks.

What cost us points was 8 yards rushing from our RBs. Brown and Irons had 8 yards each.
Eight.
Yards.
Each.

Great point! Gotta give credit where credit's due; WMU's run defense was stout last night, and the run playcalling was somewhat predictable. WMU's defense is no slouch either.

Unlikely. We will have a new QB, and won't have Golladay or Turner to throw to (Turner was underutilized anyway I think). We had a lot of injuries this year so we should at least have a lot of depth, guys that have had playing time anyway.

Typical OHIO fanbase, lets congratulate a team that had every opportunity to win after they lost. When you have an opportunity to win, please close the deal. NIU in 2011 (think that was the year) and tonight they had every chance to win. Get there were many challenges tonight. Get our team played hard! Guess I just dont give a free pass on losing. Win a F_ _ _ ing MAC Title. Dont make the thousand excuses that many other MAC teams over the last 48 years have managed to overcome. Hate when we pat everyone on the back year after year for failing to meet the objective, especially when given every opportunity to meet that objective. I appreciate the effort or our guys/coaches tonight, but when given a prime opportunity to be champions, they failed yet again. Sorry if you dont like the evaluation, but this is pass/fail, and we failed.

Windham again came in and was so impressive. How he moved us in the last minute up until the INT was awesome. Maybe no MACC but with 3 turnovers to play WMU to a 6 point game was more than many expected. The penalty on Wood for tripping seemed questionable to me near the end of 1st half where they then got a TD. I expect Greg will be the QB in whatever bowl game we end up in. No quit in this team. We're certainly not a 'mediocre' team.
'more than many expected'--So, really, this was more or less a win.

Five this season, never less than four losses a year versus our weak schedule--not a trace of mediocre here.

Look, we played quite a good game.

But a coaching staff that puts fear of a turnover before the importance of trying to score is...mediocre.

In a game in which we, being a huge underdog, we had nothing to lose, on our last two drives of the first half (3rd and long from our 10 and we run instead of pass...36 seconds to go and we run out the half instead of trying to score), the coaching staff underperformed, showing us why no MACC in 12 years.

But, sure, it's gonna happen in year 13.

To the team members of the 2016 Ohio Bobcat team - Congrats on the game season to date and the game last night No, you did not win. and no, it is not a moral victory - which as you all know - do not exists.

I know the loss hurts you more than anyone on this board. Never a good thing, but you lost to a better team. Regroup, move on and good luck in the bowl game and beyond.

No Monroe ... don't try yet again to twist words. It was NOT a win. However it was more than expected. What was the spread? 16 or 17 points? WMU has perhaps the top ranked receiver in college football. Undefeated as well. I know it's best to not reply to you but when you time and time again make statements that you know to be false by twisting others comments it's rather sad.

Past favorite mantras of our complainer-in-chief:

1. No wins over a MAC team with a winning record for 2.5 years.
2. Three or more crushing losses in each of the last three years.
3. Can't play competitively against the MAC West.

Each of these statements while once true are now false.

Therefore, our C-in-C has figured out a new mantera:

Never less than four losses each year.

Now, it's very likely that this newest iteration of "fire Frank now" will no longer be a truthful mantra next year, as it appears according to those who really study recruiting in-depth, that 2017 may be the best team of the Solich Era.

If we do have a stellar year next year, and win the MACC, let me suggest a new mantra for 2018:

14 years and no invite to the CF Playoffs.

Just a suggestion, amigo, in the spirit of BA, the friendliest sports board on the web.

All the love we give the West Div, in 2015 BG & Ohio both beat NIU, the team the West sent to the MACC game last year. This year Ohio split with the West's top two teams, Western & Toledo. Just saying.
