Definitely a good season. Hell, factually a good season. No doubt about it. Not great, but good. Winning record. Played in the MACC. A prime TV bowl slot. Etc. Got to watch a really good defense. Team seemed to play hard all the time.

People who say it wasn't a good season are smoking some bad stuff.

Let me fix that for you:

LOST in the MACC.
LOST in the Bowl.
Got to watch a defense LOSE six times, an amount greater than the prior year despite several All-MAC talent.
BUT disregarding an average-like record against A WEAK SCHEDULE, we can take solace in playing hard--because that's so exceptional.
And how many "CRASHING LOSSES" (your never ending words)? NONE!

Yeah, we lost to a top 15 team in MACC.

And we lost to a team in the bowl game who played Clemson to a 6 point game. But Clemson is no good .. they're just playing OSU on 12/31.

Yep, we lost 6 times. Losses were by 2, 5, 6, 7, 7 and 9. So the original post by Ohio69 was accurate in that it was a good year in that all our games were close.

As I said, thank you for enabling losing.

Only the SBF would defend this year on the basis of it not being filled with absolutely stunning losses.

How many years and years of 1)no MACC and 2)at least four losses every year despite a weakass schedule and 3) trending downward again are enough before you'll admit the reality of the program?

it was a good year in that all our games were close.

If our execution was at a higher level and our MAC EAST wasn't the worst conference in Division 1 football then I may say it was a good season.
If we were playing with a higher level of execution and playing a tougher schedule I might be happier with 6-8 record knowing that we were building something.
It feels like we are in a rut.
But, I definitely don't want to go back to the 2-10 days.

And I suspect most fans are actually satisfied with 8-5 regular season record.
Most absurd post of the day!

A few vocal minority on this board are satisfied with that.

I would say many more are not satisfied with above averageness....again...and again.....and again.

But you continue to be satisfied. It's your right.

69--I often disagree with most of what I post. But here, I'm not wrong; I'm right on it.

I'd be happy with 4-8 if it was against a robust schedule and we played and coached with gusto.

But 8-6, a lesser record than last year, against our schedule with our talent--No.

This team was boring to watch. That's all I got. They didn't stink. They weren't great. They were the Richard Karn of college football.

Perhaps you could start a petition to have Ohio move into the B1G ... they only have 14 schools now and I'm certain are wanting to get to 16. I'm confident you'll then be delighted with a 4-8 season. Plus, it will be a boon to recruiting - a win-win!!!

Can we win the MAC? Can we win a bowl game? Do we have to lose every close game to a decent team? Can we try to be great?

The petition to never win a MACC despite all the upgrades...and to do nothing about that lack of MACC ...but rather to mire in mediocrity...was apparently very successful.

We're 8-6!

We're 8-6!

A bit OT,but that's how a lot of my friends who are big RU fans feel about their jump to the B1G.

When it was first announced they were ecstatic.Unfortunately they found out fast just how different the B1G is from what they were used too.

They used to be competitive in most sports, and got to go to bowls most seasons. Now they're the doormat in pretty much everything but wrestling.

They also have to recruit against schools that are now able to use the fact that B1G schools will be at RU, against them.

The phrases used out here by them are "we weren't Big 10 ready" and "be careful what you wish for".

Boring to watch for the same reasons as last year, and the year before that:

1) Haven't developed a reliable and consistent QB since TT's two good years. Windham and Maxwell showed flashes, but not enough consistency. The trend is on the coaches.
2) Haven't kept the QB from getting killed against any team with a respectable pass rush. Credit to Windham for his toughness under heavy pressure the last two games.
3) Haven't shown much in the way of adaptability or ingenuity in play calling. Still can't/won't run sets of short yardage plays from under center.
4) Continue to struggle to get more touches to the best playmaker(s). This year's example is Papi White, who should have really be seeing 12-15 touches a game. Instead, excluding punt returns, he got about 6.5 per game.

On the plus side, that wasn't boring, we had 4-5 fantastic days of tailgating in Athens this year.
