I have been on the road and it is interesting listening to different sports talk radio personalities discussing the issue. I heard a couple of ex college--NFL guys state that it would be something they could never consider. Another said if someone would leave their team they would say goodbye and never come back. Still another said they could never be welcomed back for any alumni and team events again. It would be a non-starter. He also stated that he doesn't think there will be more than five of these situations happen a year. A non player radio personality wondered what this would do to the fan base, since there would be raw feelings. A caller into the program mentioned something I posted earlier about the cost of education some of these players are receiving free of charge, let alone the professional contacts a lot of these guys make for life while there. Perks few people ever receive. Interesting.

One thing to think of, is if I don't have my teammates back in a Bowl game in college, will I have my NFL teammates back in the playoffs or that big game when I've got a boo boo.

Jake Butt just suffered a knee injury, I hope he still gets drafted.

Butt's injury is a great example of why an elite player would skip a game. He was talked about as a potential top 10 draft pick. Last year, the 10 pick overall got a contract worth a total of more than $15 million. With a ligament damage, Butt probably drops to the second round or maybe late in the first. The total contracts in that neighborhood are worth about half that. So ESPN, Michigan and the B1G made millions last night while Butt probably lost many millions personally.

Another way to look at this is that these are games that really don't have to be played. They originally were organized as tourism stimuli. They have no bearing on a championship that is the culmination of a season - a natural ending to a successful run.

What if they just let the underclassman play and take advantage of the extra practices.

You mean underclassmen who aren't planning to leave school early.

According to the press out here, leaving school early for the NFL is one of the reasons Peters didn't play last night with a "tweaked" hamstring.

+1 yes you are right, I did not believe the crocodile tears. He sat out to avoid getting injured.

And then that stud Junior will have no reason to participate, may suffer that career ender. Funny, people want this add a game or two playoff and then at same time claim people should miss a game. What if Basham said he wasn't playing our Bowl game, some of you would loose your cookies!

The NCAA needs to come up with a compensation package to help these players. Basham is playing for his life, Butt was the number 1 tight end in the draft so it is not a good correlation.
