Ordinarily not a good move until you look at the dollars. He is set for life with that deal. Let's say it was basketball. Going from 300k to 800k to coach Penn St in basketball would not be worth it, because you can't win there or it's extremely difficult.

Timing is rough for them this close to signing day. I get mad when one of our guys decommits, and WMU is basically losing half of their commits.

Please report what each record was during the first four seasons of Solich ball vs 4 years of Fleck rowing--I'm too lazy to look it up.

As for the Monroe challenge--who will win conference champ first--Monroe forgot to include the stipulation: "While both the above are coaching their current team"

Would all agree that Minne winning a conference title will be a much tougher task than OHIO winning one?

With current coaches, I remain firmly convinced that one side will achieve 'never.'

In all seriousness, how many D1 coaches have first won a conference title in their 13th year or later at a school? How many D1 coaches have been at a school for 12 years and never lost less than four games?

I may be wrong. Time will tell. But it would seem to be that expecting a title after this 12 year history is putting money on a long shot.

0-4 MACC + 2-6 bowl games = 2-10, only won first bowl due to LaVon's tremendous play

We only won a bowl game due to one of our best players playing really well...

How else does a team win a bowl game?

On another note. Fleck took 6 WMU recruits with him to Minnesota on the first day.

A lot of coaches don't do that. Fleck showing his true colors on this one.

Same here and I'd lay the 5:1 to Alan for Ohio if I had to choose. Fleck may do well at UM but I'm not expecting any conference championships. He's filling his roster with good MAC players. UW OSU PSU MSU UM don't do that.

What Fleck will do best is fill his wallet. Congrats on the pay raise. He's set for life - win, lose, or draw.

Oh yes they do. Matt Campbell raided his Toledo class, Dave Clawson when he went to Wake, Babets the same to Cuse. This is routine when it happens. Heck, even RG3 ended up at Baylor with Art Briles. This is routine for players who coaches think can play at that level. And tbh here, WMU recruited better than some Big Ten schools anyways.

Monroe backpedaling. I agree Ohio is closer due to the fact that Ohio was within a TD of a championship this season vs one of the best teams the MAC has seen.

Those MAC players who Fleck had this past year at WMU gave a pretty good 'sconsin about all they could handle.

May I give some flavor for those who think Minne has a tough road to a BigMoreThan10 title...this surprised me, in fact: 9-4 last year these losses...3 point OT loss to Penn State, 7 point loss to Iowa, 7 point loss to Nebraska, 14 point loss to Wisconsin. Won their bowl game despite the mini-controversy.

I know nothing else about Minne..nothing about who returns for them.

But Fleck winning a title there may not be the long shot some think given that they were at least okay this past season.

Yes, Snyder did it in his 15th year. Add this info though:

In his first four years at K-State, he lost (oldest to most recent) 10,6,4 and 6 games. In the next 11 years, he lost 6 once, 4 once and the other 9 he lost 3 or less each (averaging very close to 2 losses per season in those 9).

Don't compare Snyder to Solich at OHIO. It's a loser.'

The base drum you beat is conference championships.

But keep adding to your percussion section as needed.
