I have an opinion why that is, and no, it's not "blame the trainer", nor "blame the conditioning coach". I think that by its nature, Ohio gets a lot of "damaged goods". Ohio ends up with a fair number of players that are talented, but who don't get P5 offers because of concerns over injuries. They end up at Ohio, but can they hold up, and overcome the injuries? Some never play. Some get by for awhile, then hang it up, others get surgery or heal, and are fine.

Not much info on today's scrimmage, just a Tweet from Arkley's that the offense won again, and that the defense had trouble defending deep passes. Does that mean that the offense is good, the defense is bad, or a little of both? I'm hoping it's the first one.

Some interesting tidbits that I sorta gleaned from Arkley:

*Ross looks like the real deal at RB

* Frank has lots of confidence in Rourke at QB

* Good to see Berger get some reps at DE

* We have a deep LB corps

* True Freshman CB Marlin Brooks may get lots of pt

* TE position well stocked

This is something we haven't had since 2011-2012. It was a key to the offense back in those years. Lost some great TEs and then hit with injuries.

"Ross looks like the real deal at RB" - Good to hear. I think he was a steal

"Frank has lots of confidence in Rourke at QB" - Not surprising. I think that Maxwell will improve dramatically this year, but I'm not convinced he can stay ahead of Rourke, who may be in the NFL someday.

"Good to see Berger get some reps at DE" - Not surprising here, either. I think that interior is deeper than the ends, after the injuries.

"We have a deep LB corps" - Ohio has been solid at LB every since Collins arrived. I have no concerns there.

"True Freshman CB Marlin Brooks may get lots of pt" - This is the news of the day. A true stud CB will usually play as a True Freshman, and I don't think Ohio has had a true Freshman come in and play since Wells and Fisher. Nelson did, but he's at Safety.

"TE position well stocked" - non-news of the day, with everyone back, it should be very deep

That's pretty accurate. For that reason Ohio is able to get the speed in the door of the P5 programs but it can be fleeting with injuries. Physically Ohio is close to a 6-6 P5 team but goes 8-4 because of the MAC schedule + a poorly coached game or two.

I was at the scrimmage. I didn't take notes but here are my basic takeaways.
Quinton Maxwell was clearly the best quarterback. He took what the defense gave him. He was so much smoother than last season. I'm hopeful it carries over to the fall.
Hagen Meservey started at guard in place of Durrell Wood. Spoke to Wood he had an MRI and he said he's hopeful he's back soon.
This Julian Ross kid is going to make it very difficult to redshirt him. He runs with really good leverage.
The two freshman d tackles impressed me. Cesar, Coleman both looked like guys who can eat up blockers but are quick enough to make plays as well.
Farkas look like he will handle the kickoff duties. He put a couple out of the end zone.
I'm not sure if the pass defense was bad on a could deep balls or Elijah Ball and Willlie Cherry are just good, DB's were in position but Maxwell dropped a couple in the basket.
There were a ton of guys held out and more not dressed at all so it's difficult to get a complete read. I was very happy to see the inside run game work. The team was also lining up under center a decent amount of time even running speed option out of that look.
One scary play was on a slant pass from Maxwell to Marhefka. He got sandwiched between two defenders but walked off on his own.

Marhefka is a Valley Boy, too.

I only got to watch practice and DBs looked good. Some just need more reps. The WRs on the other hand look amazing. They have speed, size, strength and hands. Really impressed with them. We look big at WR and TE. The RBs looked quick and all showed cutting ability.

I wonder if they are trying to save red shirts for Tusha and Kittrell. I thought those two would have been the freshmen most likely to get significant playing time on the OL.

Or, maybe it's just more evidence that recruiting rankings are not as accurate as we think they should be.

I'm thinking this year will be the best offense since 2012, maybe better

Roster?

Does anyone know if the team roster on the Ohio Bobcats website is current/up to date? I assume it is since the players are all wearing their Adidas jerseys in head shots.

Several players could be in a viking movie or Game of Thrones extras with their long locks.

Check out the 'stache on #35!

Meservy can play anywhere along the offensive line.

If you watch his HUDL vid you'll see someone with a mean streak.

The newcomer group seems to be loaded with steals.

The final scrimmage is today, and then soon we should get an official depth chart.
