There is also no way to know what else needs to be done in the way of wiring.
All I can say is that a large wiring harness is in place and it appears to go underground -- presumably to somewhere in the Peden Press Box.

Slippery Pete and Schlomo could have this thing done by gameday.

Maybe it's just a large dry erase board....hopefully we won't see a stepladder on Saturday.

To be fair, even if there were no speakers and the PA announcer is forced to lean out of the press box window and use one of those "cheerleader cones" to make all of his announcements, that is at most a 10% reduction in volume compared to our old stadium speaker system

I went by Peden stadium this morning and I took the photos below. I apologize that the lighting is not great because I was taking the shots into the sun, and I was too lazy to come back in the afternoon when the sun would be to my back. Nonethelss, I think you can see that the screen is all up, and that the only things left are the logo on top and the trim on the sides. It seems to me that this could be easily done by game time on Saturday for the Hampton contest. But, what do I know, I'm only a dumbass poster on BA, with no knowledge of the inner workings of the AD's office.
this is actually the temporary scoreboard and will be removed when the one purchased arrives.

GC105 - yes, this is a temporary scoreboard that will be taken down when the one for OHIO arrives.

Props though for the work to ensure that there is a working scoreboard during the first game.

Where the !@#$ do you get a temporary scoreboard? Is this just the old scoreboard?

Another opportunity lost to make a good first impression on the incoming (already here) class

I would guess you get a temporary scoreboard from the vendor of the new scoreboard. If the new one is not yet ready, they may be furnishing this temporary one as a good faith effort to keep the peace. Just a hunch.

Props indeed for whomever made that happen, but I agree with DFC. Opportunity lost here. Openers are usually one of the biggest crowds all year.

LOL... "A good first impression on the incoming freshman class?" What do they (administration) care? They already have their money.

Well, that's a cynical viewpoint (something that the king cynic would recognize). I mean this from an athletic standpoint. You don't get a lot of chances to make fans for life and it's harder when you don't have a huge tradition. It should be a big crowd and it should be a win and it should be a good lead-in to two tough games that follow. but now it's also going to be a little bush-league due to some sort of screwup with our new scoreboard. Now, we are well-positioned to recover from this mini-disaster... it's called "Beat Purdue" in week 2.

Right on! Beating Purdue would most likely be a more effective recruiting tool then the new scoreboard.

Even though temporary this board is all video, and will blow the old one out of the water in size and resolution. As far as where do you get one? There are many to rent and in many platforms.

Shame they won't have it on Saturday night. I bet there will be over 22.000 in the stands. They should have made Hampton the 2:00 game and the Kansas game 7:00 and debuted the new scoreboard on that night. With the alcohol sales, P5 opponent (yes, I realize it's Kansas), and a new scoreboard ready for a night game I can imagine the atmosphere would have been somewhat electric.

Wishful thinking

That's kind of an insult to Arkley and the Messenger, don't you think? If the only place that information could be found was here, I'd agree with you, but with it being featured in the Messenger, I'd think that more than a handful of people read it.

Here's the slap...how many in the stadium will have read the article? Circulation is 10,000 and I am willing to bet that no one(slight exaggeration) on the student side will have read it and most of them will be gazing at their smart phones.

Not a slap to Arkley at all, you are assuming that everyone in attendance is a reader of the Athens Messenger or a reader of Bobcat Attack? Yeah, don't think so. Again, the average fan, the freshman that comes to the game, or any alum that comes in from out of town will have no clue regarding the scoreboard until someone tells them.
