I see a lot of apprehension toward the program and what is the concern? Is it a fear we will spend too much on the football and cause the university to enter into financial default? Is it that Solich/Burrow will pull a Castro brothers and keep the regime installed for another 30 years? Is it that if fans are gloating over football they could face the ultimate crime of being humbled? What is your problem?

I get a little dismayed by our record in big games. The majority of us object to the play calling, FS has even identified this as a problem numerous times, but he never does anything about it. I love the team and the program, I think we are in a little bit of a tail spin. I love last year's recruiting class.

Also, an individual championship in Cross Country, and the College Division National Championship in football in 1960. The College Division existed for several years in the 1950s era.

Its still very clear we are not built to win national championships. We aren't an exclusive land grant university in a major metro market. University of Texas where in every sport a NC is a realistic goal. At Ohio the situation is more that tradition has allowed us to build athletics to a point beyond what is normal for a small market.

18 programs have played for a NC in the past 20 years. I agree its not a lot of diversity. But that is the way it is with the advantages the largest programs have. For us the highest level we can compete at with any regularity is to be in the conversation for an access bowl. Solich has only had us in the conversation one time (2012) in all the years he's coached. Regularly contend for an access bowl and pick up some conference championships in the process.

I'm somewhat in agreement with you with one exception: I care about winning in Detroit that first weekend in December. I don't honestly care about the bowl game, though I watch it. Other than Miami & BG, I'm indifferent towards MAC "rivals". And BG is simply because I have many friends that graduated from there. I get more excited when we play Marshall than I do anyone else.

I'm not sure on the lower division. As a basketball fan first, ideally that would allow for a little extra cash for hoops. The reality is that isn't happening. And we can't discount the value of a noon ESPNU game like we're getting this weekend. That doesn't happen if the MAC is FCS.

At the end of the day, I treat football in Athens as a great day with friends. A social event that is more important that the game itself for me. The success of the program isn't really going to change whether or not I come down for games and tailgate, etc. It doesn't mean I don't want to see that MAC Championship.

I'm not apprehensive....just starting to get bored.

My son wants to go camping Friday night, so we're going camping. With the switch to the noon kickoff Saturday, I was probably going to skip the game and catch up on sleep from the night before...but then he said he wants to go to the game. So we're probably going to go now.

But that's a function of my son's happiness and not a function of a particularly exciting brand of football. And given that he's 5 years old, there's a good chance he'll change his mind by Saturday morning and decide he'd rather watch the Minion movie for the 75th time in the last 2 weeks. And if that's the case, I'll probably be home watching the Minion movie and following the game on the computer.

At the end of the day, sports is entertainment, and I have other options for entertainment. If Ohio wants to keep me engaged, they need to give me a reason to prefer this option over others. 7-5 and a trip to the Dollar General Bowl year in, year out, ain't cutting it any more.

I think the apprehension comes from the fact that we're not very fun to watch. There are teams that may have a similar record, but you enjoy the games a bit more. They're flashy, they're fun, they're entertaining. That's what this is, a form of entertainment. The Bobcats the last couple of years haven't been very entertaining. They're instead quite plain. That I certainly put on the coaching side.

Look at the way Purdue played. Not their athletes alone, they played with a different energy, a greater fire. They opened up the field. They used trick plays.

In the write-ups of those at the Hampton game, it sounds like we were quite vanilla in the way we played. Yes, we scored 59, but it sounds like it wasn't an altogether 'fun' experience. That's what I think fans want. Something flashy. I just don't think that's who Frank is. I think he'd be completely happy gaining 3.5 yards every play, marching down the field in a slow, deliberate manner.

Familiarity breeds contempt.

As for me, well, we've been to 4 MAC Championship games. That's what I want from the program. A MAC Championship. Solich has gotten us there 4 times. Didn't win any. But, he got us there 4 times. Hard for me to want regime change when taking that into consideration. But, I'll still grumble and complain now and then like all fans do.

The instant Jeff Brohm was hired at Purdue, that game became a much more significant challenge for Ohio. It's a style of offense that we just don't seem to deal with very well or very often. I don't want to see it again, frankly.

What happened against Purdue sucked and it will be seen as a missed opportunity for us, but it's not who we are as a program and we're not as bad as we looked. We have a sh** game like that every year. Last year, it also happened to come the week before Kansas, and we came out with fire in our eyes the following week. We all knew after the Louisville game that they were going to be much better than last year. It was bad timing for us and certainly a bad time to fumble twice in three drives and forget how to play defense. It doesn't make it any less frustrating, especially after 4 hours in a car and beer lines that were way too long. But it doesn't define our season.

I really do hope we get to see Quinton Maxwell reach his potential, and I hope to he gets another chance to show what he can really do, but this is Division 1 football and we can only have so much on the job training.
