We won the '68 MAC title when we beat BGSU at Bowling Green. I listened to Joe Tait call that game on WOUB-AM. As you may recall, Tait later was the Voice of the Cleveland Cavaliers for quite a long time. I never thought it would take this long to win another MAC title, and actually shed a few tears this afternoon watching the game on ESPN. However, I turned down the ESPN crew audio and cranked up Marty and Rob's broadcast. Great job Cats!

The finest four quarters I’ve seen us play. It was so overwhelming a performance it almost felt too easy. Tim Albin has earned the right to stay as long as he’d like to coach here.

Gosh, I can’t remember, but I think I was at that Bowling Green game. Is that the one that was about 10° with a 30 mile an hour wind? Coldest football game I’ve ever been to. Just can’t remember if that was the championship year or two years later?

Word from the motor city is that TA has been or will be offered a raise to $1.1m/yr.

I'm sure somebody in foreign languages department will be all over that one.

Darn. This old Bobcats living room got awful dusty. I hope that Frank was there. I wonder if anyone at tOSU has offered to buy the Bobcat offensive game plan. You know the one with relaxed sphincter

I was there, too. It was one year, earlier, 1967, and we tied UT for the MACC. See my other thread on hell freezing over.

Don’t wake me up, I was dreaming that we won the MACC.
What a wonderful gift, I was just starting to think that I would never see another one before I left this earth.

I have nothing clever or whitey to say. Barely slept the last 2 nights in anticipation of this game and stage. I live in Cincinnati and have to hear from Fiami alumni all the time (when they are not watching their 2 favorite teams - OSUcks and UC).

I have been an active alum for 30+ years. Many football trips. Many big games. Many seasons ended with something missing.

No more.

No idea if Albin leaves or we become a destination for grad transfers. Don't care on this day.

Congrats to all alumni and fans waiting for this day. It had been so long, we bridged the decades of disappointment. Not on this day.

The best 4 quarters I have witnessed in my time as a Bobcat. Congrats to the coaches and players. Not just a beat down but a beat down of our rival for a MAC Championship.

Time to celebrate with 1000 Old Fashions! (realistically 3-4)

Actually winning the game is old news now but I just got home from Detroit and I want to immortalize my thoughts on Bobcatattack forever (or until the servers fry a second time).

Big thanks to everyone involved in the Ohio Bobcats football program for that dub. And big thanks to you all for chit-chatting and cheering all these years!

GO BOBCATS

Yep. Frank established us as a winning program and got us our first bowl win and Albin completed what Frank started by getting us our first MAC title since 1968.

The only next level left to possibly achieve is to turn OHIO into the next Boise State by getting nationally ranked and into the CFP.

If we win our bowl game, I think we might end this year ranked.

We were also ranked after an 8-0 start my Freshman year in 2012.

Yeah, that is true. I remember when we were nationally ranked in 2012, but it was pretty short-lived because we took a tumble after losing to Miami.

So, the next level would include becoming nationally ranked on a consistent basis I should have said.

Tears in my eyes in the stands as this game ended.

What an absolute smackdown. The fact that it was against Miami to exact revenge makes it even sweeter than I could have possibly imagined.

After Miami's FG drive, I wanted to see how we fared against their "vaunted" defense. Hendricks caught a couple passes on the opening drive which I thought was a GREAT sign because surely Miami was worried about Owen, Tyus, and Navarro. The Bobcats moved the ball with relative ease.

OUr second possession was an 18 play, 10:14 TD drive - surely I must have been dreaming?

Going into the half up 21-3 and knowing we received the ball to start the 2nd half felt amazing. An easy 6 play TD drive, 3 and out for Fiami, then a 6:40 Ohio drive with Spetic drilling a 52 yard kick, 31-3 OHIO. Now the clock was OUr friend and it was only a matter of time before we were crowned 2024 MAC Champions.

How sweet it is. One of the best days of my life - easily the greatest Bobcat sporting event I have seen in person! GO OHIO!

Being up was nice in the first half but that score on the opening drive of the 3rd quarter to make it 28-3 sealed it up in my eyes. Second halves often change momentum in a football game as what happened against NIU in 2011. After the start in the 3rd I said "I think we've got this". But I still sweated out every play to the end anyways lol.

If my memory is correct, the 2012 team had an incredible 19 players lost to season ending injuries. It started even before the season began, with the loss of Carrie, but week by week, the toll kept mounting. The team tried to keep winning, but after awhile, they just didn't have enough left. This team was the opposite. They started off not very good, and with a lot of injuries. Week by week, they got better, and more and more players returned. They won the last six games by an average of nearly 30 points, holding foes to an average of under 10 points.

I was talking to my dad about this before the game yesterday. Usually our best teams are a shell of what they could be by the postseason due to injuries. This year, it seems like we were our healthiest.

On top of all those players lost for the season in 2012, Tettleton was playing hurt. I believe Blankenship was too.

Thank you for explaining all those details about the present and past injury situations. Totally forgot just how many injuries we were dealing with in 2012.

And that's got to speak positively to the quality of our strength and conditioning to be able to return so many players back to the field this season.

Re-watching game and taking notes:

1st Quarter
- Ohio rush defense 7th in the nation
- Miami 2nd-worst in 3rd down conversion in the MAC (Kent worst)
- the tipped pass to Virgil was Miami's longest offensive play of the day
- can't believe Chuck doesn't go for it on 4th-and-short, settles for FG
- Miami OL with 161 combined starts
- 3rd-and-5, Navarro not looking for snap, picks it up and picks up first down
- Miami 2nd drive, Gabbert runs on first down, Adonis very close to late hit, announcers surprised its not called
- Pearson with nice tackle in space on 3rd drown, Miami has to punt
- Ohio could let quarter end but Navarro hits Hendricks for first down

2nd Quarter (Ohio leads 7-3)
- ESPN broadcast comes back from commercial with on-field interview with Albin. Says must stay on schedule offensively.
- 2nd down throw at Miami 46 almost intercepted, intended for Owen
- 3rd and 9 draw play, picks up 12 yards and keeps drive alive
- 1st and 10 swing pass to Hunt. He acts like it’s incomplete. Clearly a backward pass, loss of 3.
- Navarro keeps on 3rd and 4, picks up 8 to keep drive alive
- 3rd and goal, Miami facemask keeps drive alive. Clear facemask.
- Navarro shakes Salopek, scores. Ohio 14-3. Salopek not happy. Starts to go after Mason Williams. Run caps off 18-play, 82-yard drive that took 10:14.
- Weaver with big TFL on Mozee, Miami goes 3 and out
- 1st play of possession Navarro keeps for loss. Salopek and Navarro getting into it. Salopek being warned by ref.
- After Tyus gets first down on 3rd and 1, Owen gets first reception of the game.
- Two minute timeout, Salopek spends a minute complaining to ref.
- Ohio gets first down at midfield, Chuck calls timeout?
- 2nd and 3, Navarro just outruns defense for first down.
- First down at Miami 36, drop by Hendricks
- Next play, Navarro bobbles snap, flips ball to Tyus for 15 yards. Miami calls timeout before next play is snapped. Defense looks gassed.
- 21-yard TD to Mason Williams, nice move at the 5. Spetic sneaks in XP inside right upright. 21-3, :52 left.
- Brawley with big special teams hit. Miami runs out clock. Complete second quarter domination. Miami has the ball for 2:02 in the second quarter. Runs 5 plays, gets 4 yards.
- Ohio had 3 possessions in the first half, 3 touchdowns

3rd Quarter (Ohio leads 21-3)
- Ohio gets the ball to start the half, comes out throwing for a first down to Harris
- Navarro finds Owen on a rollout for 23 yards, then hits Owen over the middle for 9
- Play of the game: Navarro rolling right again finds Navarro for 25-yard TD. 28-3, 12:39 left in 3rd. 6 play, 75-yard drive, 58 of those yards to Owen. Ohio not looking conservative.
- 1st Miami possession: Ohio brings blitz on 3rd down. Another Gabbert back foot throw. TE can’t get his head turned around in time forcing a punt.
- Now we have the Coleman Owen punt return saga. Ruling on field is Owen is down, penalty on return team 32. Replay shows clear fumble. Officials talking to Chuck, he says “that can’t be”. Because…the call is really blindside clock on Miami 43. Replay appear to shows that is correct call. Chuck losing it. Ready for the re-punt. But, another review. Which results in doing exactly what they were just going to do. Ensuing punt goes OB.
- Up 28-3, a nice mix of run and pass moves the ball to the Miami 18. A couple of holding penalties (only 2 penalties on the Bobcats in the game) stalls the drive. Spetic hammers a career-long 52-yarder. 31-3 Ohio. I also learn Navarro has had Tommy John surgery.
- Miami goes 3-and-out. Another 3rd down blitz. Gabbert chucks and ducks. Threw it right at Parodie, just low.
- Following possession, Ohio punts for the first time. Bobcats only take 1:37 off the clock. Hendricks with a drop.
- For the first time since the opening drive, Miami starts to move the ball.

4th quarter (Ohio leads 31-3)
- 1st and 10 at Ohio 14, Gabbert gets pressure in his face and just throws it up for grabs in the endzone, Tank Pearson obliges.
- Screenshots of a Matt Salopek PowerPoint.
- Ohio puts on the exclamation point. 9 plays, 80 yards 5:37 drive. Tyus takes it in from 21. 8 of the 9 plays on the drive are runs. Tyus has 6 of those for 49 yards.38-3, 6:45 left.
- Gabbert is done. We get Henry Hesson. Chuck concedes. Miami runs 9 times for 29 yards before turning it over on downs.
- Ohio ball with 2:02 left. Two McCormick runs then Poulos kneels it out. Bobcats are MAC Champs with 38-3 win

Final (Ohio 38-3)
- Ohio 32 first downs, Miami 11
- 467 total yards to 189. Rushing yards 232 to 62.
- Each team with 2 penalties apiece
- Ohio TOP 37:35, Miami 22:25
- Ohio 6-8 on 3rd downs, Miami 4-11
- Ty Wise with 17 tackles for Miami, Salopek 7 and no impact plays
