No. I want focused, physical, domination, whether every thing is on the line or nothing is.

I want to serve notice to the rest of the MAC (and college football, for that matter) that you do NOT want to play us, because we WILL beat the hell out of you.

Akron can put an all-star team of their last 10 classes combined and it wouldn't beat this team. They are going to stack the box and have their corners play 10 yards off. This will get ugly early. Hopefully Maxwell will get some reps! Ohio 55- Akron 14.

Akron had to use a WR as QB last year and was a dropped 4Q pass in the endzone from beating a much, much better Ohio team.

While on paper a blowout seems obvious, for whatever reason Akron has been a pain in the ass in recent years.

Tuesday won't be easy ...

If we have it wrapped up next week, Buffalo is meaningless. I'd play the starters the first quarter or so and turn it over to the bench. Don't risk getting a starter hurt in a meaningless game just to make a statement. If we can still beat the hell out of Buffalo, so be it. But the starters should be saved for Detroit.

Agreed. Except for Toledo I don't think a MAC team has scored more than 25 on Akron all season. They may give up a lot of yds but not pts. It'll be interesting to see how that holds against our guys, who've scored 45+ against every MAC East team this season.

If Ohio beats Akron, they then need to go b****-to-the-wall to beat Buffalo. Championship-caliber teams don’t take their foot off the gas, ever, especially prior to a play-off game. You never want to lose momentum.

On paper, this game should not be close. Akron is giving up the second most yards/game in the league, at 441 yards/game, and second most first downs/game. Their offense is anemic, at 324.8 yards a game and 21.8 points a game. They are last in the MAC in rushing offense, and middle of the pack in passing offense, and near last in time of possession. Their pass efficiency and pass defense efficiency are both in the lower middle of the MAC. Their special teams don't look good, either, ranking them low in punting, and at the bottom in punt returns, and near the bottom in kickoff coverage, plus last in field goal percentage.

So, how is Akron challenging for the East? Smoke and mirrors? First, when the games have been close, they have come out on top, beating WMU 14-13, and Buffalo 21-20. Second, they have a positive turnover ratio. Most importantly, they have had a good red zone defense, giving up TDs less than half the time in the red zone.

Ohio has been very successful in the red zone, while Akron has been good at red zone defense. If Ohio can continue to punch the ball into the endzone, Ohio should win easily. In the last couple years, however, Akron has been much better than other teams in the MAC at stopping Ohio's offense. The last few years:
2016 Ohio 9, Akron 3 (season low points for Ohio)
2015 Ohio 14, Akron 12 (tie for season low for Ohio)
2014 Ohio 23, Akron 20

My conclusion is that Chuck Amato will have a sound defensive plan for Ohio. I'm sure he has a good idea how to stop the option, unlike some of the younger defensive coordinators in the MAC. I doubt Ohio will break 40 this game, but I think that in the end, Ohio is the better team, and they will win this one, but it won't be a cakewalk.
L.C. broke it down the best. Here is the thing -- we should not be afraid of us underestimating Akron. That is total weak sauce. And I don't think this team is capable of that. This team will study the film the same way they did for Toledo and be ready. And then all that's left to do is leave it all on the field. May the best team win. Let's do this.

I agree. The team will not underestimate Akron. They realize the importance of this game, and will play hard. Ohio having the short week will hurt a bit, but Ohio, in my opinion, is a significantly better team than Akron, and Ohio has been a strong, physical team all year. Let's do this.

Go Bobcats!

Yeah, a bit of a bummer we have the short week, but taking that into consideration, we are all the more fortunate that the Toledo game went the way that it did. I imagine the defense got some rest while we were operating a run-heavy offensive attack that kept them off the field, and even Rourke was able to at least have Maxwell come in to replace him at the end of the game. Hopefully this will help the team to heal up a little faster for the Zips. I hope the offensive line has a quick recovery too. Their play has been so key for us.

They still haven't put a line on OUr game even though it is the first game of the week. It is probably dependent on Woodson's status. If he is playing then I think that it stays in the single digits. Any other school in the MAC would suspend their QB for an undisclosed violation of team rules if required even if it were a game for the division championship. But, C'mon, this IS Akron. Does anyone expect him not to play?

Rumor has it as a two game suspension...but we will see.

Ohio losing this game would be a travesty for the MAC as well. A 6 win Akron team going into the final week of the season with a chance to represent the MAC East in Detroit is not a good optic.

I watched the Bowden TV show, and the way he refused to talk about how long the suspension would be lead me to believe that the decision was being made above his position in the hierarchy. Just a hunch.

Westgate has the spread for the game as OHIO favored by 13 points. Feels a bit excessive, but they also say that OHIO is 8-2 against the spread this year.

Any Bobcats out there in cyber-land know of any decent watering holes near the stadium?? Would prefer a place with some food also! Pre-game meal and pep rally!
Watched practice before the Bobcats left for Akron. Practice was full of energy with excellent focus in all areas. If good practice always translates to good play....we should be in good shape tomorrow night. The Bobcats want this one.

Several services show Ohio is a 13pt favorite. I think that means they must be inclined to believe Woodson is not playing.

Just took a look at Zip Nation and the upcoming game thread. The general consensus is that their only hope is if Woodson starts, and even then they seem to have little confidence. Some are calling OHIO the toughest team they've played all season. These folks seem to have forgotten about Penn State, Iowa State and Troy. But, the last part of the thread devolved into a discussion of how $1.00 beer could help fill Infocision Stadium. When your team doesn't give you anything good to talk about change the subject to beer. Always works!

I'll bet it would fill their stadium! (Though it might drive OHIO turnout more than they anticipate hahaha)

Frank doesn't agree with you. He has recently said that you play to win every game. He was basically asked about that at a recent press conference. Check it out for yourself.
