I see that the Manning Quarterback of the Week voting is going on now. Guess who is one of the nominees? But don't worry, that's not national attention.
Yeah...that would be. That wasn't a real thing when this discussion started.

Why is this so hard to understand?
I think I'm getting, at least closer to understanding.
NOW we can claim he's getting national attention?

Look ... my position when this nonsense started was that it seemed to me that some folks were acting like Rourke was getting all this lavish attention from the nation for his unreal season and game where he scored 6 TDs. People were acting like he was a household name in college football similar to Sam Darnold.

All I was saying was literally no one outside of the Bobcat or maybe the MAC bubble had heard of this guy or probably knew what kind of season he was having.

At no point did I downplay his on-the-field play or say he wasn't any good.

I just wanted people to get things in perspective.

He's having a nice season ... we are all enjoying it... but it's not like he's been a focal point of the college football world. I didn't agree with people making him out to be the next great Heisman candidate.

Yes ... he is now obviously getting some recognition (Manning nomination)... but the ESPN Gameday Final thing is a little tongue-in-cheek because of the Canadian thing. Yes, it's good to see his name on the screen ... but don't get used to it ... it won't happen again this year thanks to midweek MACtion

Just that he isn't as good as we think?

Am I ready to crown him as the best QB in the MAC ... greatest in Ohio history.

Simply, no.

It's been 7 starts vs:

Kansas
UMass
Kent
BG
Miami
CMU
EMU

And let's be honest ... he wasn't very good vs CMU and EMU ... arguably the two "best" teams on that list

Let's see what he does vs Toledo...potentially the MAC title game...bowl game

I've been pretty open my feelings about Tettleton over the years... but he won at Penn State ...a pair of bowl games...beat Marshall

That is a little more than 6 wins over some of the worst competition in FBS.

I think Rourke has shown well so far ... and has all types of potential ... so I'm just waiting for a more appropriate body of work to start throwing around the type of high praise some of you have bestowed upon him.

Baby steps ...lets see how he fares in a big game tonight

Nathan Rourke is really really good. His passing will improve but he is the perfect fit for this offense.

Whatever dude. You obviously don't get my point.

This discussion is worthless. You're just trying to pick an argument over something that is trivial ...

I've never discounted Rourke's abilities .... I just disagreed that he wasn't getting 'national attention" immediately after that 6 TD game like you claimed he was.

Some national recognition has obviously started to roll in for him and Ohio as a team since we started this absurd back-n-forth.

PS ... we'll see who earns MAC 1st Team honors ... I'm still guessing it goes to the senior who's body of work minus last night has been pretty damn good.

Lol, just a little good natured ribbing...I didn't mean anything by it. We already concluded that we have different views on what is or isn't national attention.
As for your statement on who earns MAC 1st Team honors...His body of work has been pretty darn good. Until he ran into the best team in the MAC. You know who else has had a pretty darn good body of work? Our QB. With 2 less starts than Woodside. So I'm gonna guess Rourke wins it. Goodluck!

I personally could care less whether Rourke's getting national attention or not. All I know is Ohio has by all appearances FINALLY gotten the kind of QB we've all complained for years Coach Solich couldn't get, an elite-level (for the MAC, that is) QB that can win a game with his play. Whether anyone in Cedar Rapids, IA has ever heard of Rourke makes no difference to me.

So you DO care?

If you could care less that means you care. Or did you mean you couldn't care less? ;)

Rourke was not very good vs EMU & CMU

Lots of turnovers vs Chips & was ineffective vs Hurons until OT

Good point - especially since I'm pretty sure Woodside absolute torched CMU

All true. But Rourke is young and new to the program compared to Woodside.
It's just my opinion that Rourke is the better QB. If he stays healthy I'm sure he will prove me right. But we'll see.

Air Canada has a BRIGHT future. And S/O to Q Maxwell he is right there in the middle of everything and involved as a teammate they will continue to push each other I believe but I think he may transfer if he wants to play

I don't disagree that Rourke might one day end up with a better (or much better) career than Woodside.

But right now ... this year ... Woodside is better overall.

BTW ... I'm sticking with "Canadian Bacon" as Rourke's nickname because, well, bacon is awesome

MAC-level elite QBs can be journeymen and sometimes elite-level at the next level: Ben Roethlisberger, Byron Leftwich, Chad Pennington, Bruce Gradkowski, Charlie Batch, Charlie Frye and Nate Davis.

Rourke probably had one of his poorest performance against Toledo, but he was still electric. He has a great feel for the game and he seems to bounce back quickly.

I love that pic. Great to see he is getting some well-deserved attention for all his hard work.
