Week 2 Bye Week. What a joke. Most fired up I've been ever.
I love this justification statement:

$2.5-3.5 million dollars in media exposure for each game.

So.

As I responded to them on Twitter - I wish the ticket sales team the best of luck in selling this home schedule.

If they pull this crap for the basketball schedule, and schedule a bunch of non-conf games on Fridays and week nights like they did this year, I'll consider ending my Bobcat Club membership accordingly. It might be the only way to get a point across.

The people running the MAC need to wake up and realize they're crushing their programs with schedules like these. I'm fine with mid week MACtion. But HALF the schedule on week nights?

Selfishly, I'm happy with the schedule. Two MAC road games within easy driving distance (NIU and WMU) plus two beatable non-conference teams.

Homecoming hotel booked as well.

Yeah, I'm probably going to renew my family pack but not my Bobcat Club membership. I can't make the 9/29 game (damn fall weddings). Nearly $500 for the home opener + homecoming + MAAAAAAYBE Kron just doesn't make sense.

Got one on the 29th myself. Probably going to give up two seats on the aisle on the 50, decrease the seat fee, and buy the family pack myself. Sad state of affairs.

As long as the Bobcats continue to be one of the better teams in the league, the MAC will more than likely schedule them for the mid week games later in the season. Toledo is also scheduled for five mid week games and Western Michigan has four mid week games, with a game on Friday August 31. Get used to it. We may not like it, but if you check the schedule it is usually Eastern Michigan playing a few Saturday games in late in the season.

Think we should make a new conference from the best C-USA and MAC teams, in a tighter geographical configuration, and say to hell with this type of crap schedule. This may bring in a few more short-term bucks, but it is ruining the program for the long run. I've never liked these mid-week late season games, but this year's schedule is the reductio ad absurdum argument against this whole damn conference. Where's Mr. GetoutoftheMACNow, when we need him? ;-)

Just reread the press release and then line about the Homecoming game is also concerning as far as game time goes.

The Bobcats will host Ball State on either ESPN2 or CBS Sports Network on Oct. 20.

"The Bobcats return home to host Bowling Green for Homecoming on Oct. 20. Ohio topped the Falcons 48-30 last season and own a 27-40-2 all-time record against BG.

Ohio then begins its slate of five Mid-Week #MACtion games which will be televised on the ESPN family of networks or CBS Sports Network. The national platform brings Ohio University to homes all across the world and generates between $2.5-3.5 million dollars in media exposure for each game.

The Bobcats will host Ball State on either ESPN2 or CBS Sports Network on Oct. 20. Ohio has not faced Ball State since their 48-31 win over the Cardinals in 2015. Ohio owns a 9-15 all-time record against the Cardinals."

Guessing that the Ball St. game is Thursday Oct. 25 as Ohio will not have two Oct. 20th games.

In a way we are victims of our own success and famous head coach. I think the 2.5-3.5 million dollars is really a soft cost and somewhat diluted from a few years ago when mid week games were a novelty.
There is probably not popular with anyone except ESPN and people that can't make it to Athens for every game.

No bueno if you are a season ticket holder and don't have to travel overnight to attend home games, muy bueno if you are a season ticket holder and have to travel to see every game. Roadies to Charlottesville, Cincy, Kzoo (for the beer!) and NIU because my employer's home office is close to Dekalb, and the ability to extend a trip to Atown for Hcoming and Balls Tate. Close with a trip home to Lancaster for THXGV and a rematch with Krackron on Black Friday, and I'll likely see more regular season games in person than I ever have. But that's just me.

This is just factually false. Kent & BG ... two of the worst teams in the MAC the last two years ... were on national midweek TV games 7 times each .... the same exact amount of time Ohio was featured. ESPN doesn't really care who's good. They're only interested in filling out a programming grid during weeknights in late fall.

Total garbage.

Midweek #MACtion appearances in 2018
Akron: 2
Kent: 4
BG: 2
Miami: 4
Ohio: 5
Buffalo: 4

NIU: 4
WMU: 4
CMU: 3
EMU: 1
UT: 5
Ball: 4

Kent and Ball State are argubly the two worst teams in this league ... and they are on just as any times as NIU & WMU. Same for Miami and Buffalo ... two bad MAC programs. There is no regard for who's good and who's not when it comes to TV appearances. What is EMU and BG doing to get so many Saturday games ... while Ohio is play nearly half of their season on weeknights???

I'm sorry ... you'll never convince me this is inherently good for the program. At some point, this fragile fan base is going to catch on and just stop showing up period. No one is excited about making the trek to Athens for a Tuesday night game. They just don't. Attendance numbers prove it.

I know the TV money is paramount for the survival of the league financially ... but you mean to tell me they couldn't trim it down to 2 or 3 midweek games at most? It's become a farce.

I think those are exceptions. Typically, the better teams play in the middle of the week on TV. For scheduling purposes, it can't be only the better teams, and I'm sure there have been seasons where the league has guessed wrong about could be a better game on TV. But I am fairly confident that Ohio, Toledo, Western Michigan and Northern Illinois in general over the last several years have had the most midweek games because they have had the consistently better teams.
False.

From a previous post I made a few weeks ago
Last two years of National TV Midweek MACtion (excluding ESPN3 "broadcasts")
Pretty damn even for the most part considering that some teams play more midweek games than others. For instance, Toledo had 5 last year ... while Buffalo only had 3. Again, there is no method to the stupidness. Just whatever ESPN needs to fill their time slots.

Ohio (7)
2 CBSSN
5 ESPN

Akron (6)
6 ESPN

Kent (7)
5 ESPN
2 CBSSN

Miami (4)
3 ESPN
1 CBSSN

Buffalo (4)
2 CBSSN
2 ESPN

BG (7)
7 ESPN

WMU (8)
7 ESPN
1 CBSSN

EMU (6)
4 CBSSN
2 ESPN

CMU (6)
2 CBSSN
4 ESPN

NIU (7)
4 CBSSN
3 ESPN

Ball (6)
2 ESPN
4 CBSSN

Toledo (9)
8 ESPN
1 CBSSN
You can do the math and add this year's appearances ....

Kent, Ball St, Buffalo, Miami, BG and some other dreadful programs are getting on national TV during this midweek misery a lot more than you might expect.

Again ... it's all about filling the programming grid for ESPN. They don't care who plays UNLESS you get the random flier where it's WMU nationally ranked.

They put as much effort/enthusiasm into Ohio vs. Toledo on a Tuesday night as they do for Kent vs. Miami.

The novelty has worn off ... it's not "cool" to be on ESPN anymore. It's a yearly thing and the core fanbases of these schools don't care to show up anymore. It cheapens the experience for that core of fans and the players who are playing over half their season on weeknights in empty stadiums.

Again ... I totally understand the money portion.

But please ... stop the justification saying only good teams get on these midweek broadcasts. It's just not true.

FYI to fellow out-of-towners: The Baymont Inn, Holiday Inn Express and Knights Inn are all available to book on Expedia for Homecoming weekend (Oct. 19-21). Book now before the official schedule announcement and everything gets snatched up.
Anyone ever stay at the Baymont or Knights Inn? I'm not really up for a huge dropoff from the Fairfield Inn/Hampton Inn/Holiday Inn Express level. Are the Baymont and Knights Inn closer to the Super 8/Motel 6 dregs, or are they tolerable?

Baymont is tolerable and decent location ... never done the Knights Inn.

BUT ... last time I stayed at Baymont was about 3-5 yrs ago ... so not sure how much it's dropped off. I just remember it was light years better than that Days Inn on Columbus Rd that charges $200+ during special wknds.

bshot- I stick with my original comment and suggest if Ohio wasn't a top MAC team, they would be playing on more Saturday's in late Oct/November. The MAC wants the Toledo's and Ohio's playing mid week games because they have better attendance than most and usually win more than most. Examples are Kent in 2016 played 2 mid week Nov games on Tuesdays and a Friday after Thanksgiving. Akron in 2017 played 3 Tuesday November games. Miami in 2016 played 2 non Saturday games. One was a Friday game and another a Tuesday before Thanksgiving. Eastern Michigan in 2018 will play Friday Nov. 23 and the rest on Saturday in November and in 2016 Eastern played 3 mid week Nov. games.

Well that’s a fair point, these are fairly heavy craft brews we’re talking about, rather than the traditional “light-domestic” we normally tailgate with.

This is not good. I understand the November mid-week games because MAC fans check out by then plus Thanksgiving breaks that adversely affects small MAC towns (and the TV cash). But Saturdays in September and October need to be football days.
Akron only has two non-Saturday games:
Sat., April 21 SPRING GAME Noon
Sat., Sept. 1 at Nebraska
Sat., Sept. 8 MORGAN STATE
Sat. Sept. 15 at Northwestern
Sat., Sept. 22 at Iowa State
Sat., Sept. 29 BYE
Sat., Oct. 6 *MIAMI (Ohio)
Sat., Oct. 13 *at Buffalo
Sat., Oct. 20 *at Kent State
Sat., Oct. 27 *CENTRAL MICHIGAN #
Thurs., Nov. 1 *NORTHERN ILLINOIS # [ESPNU | CBS-SN]
Sat., Nov. 10 *at Eastern Michigan #
Sat., Nov. 17 *BOWLING GREEN
Fri., Nov. 23 *at Ohio
Akron also has Nebraska, Northwestern and Iowa State.
