There are a lot of unreal expectations of our fan base as to what teams we can bring here. There is not a lot of money, we have a small stadium and our base is very fickle. I do not see many P5 teams lining up to come here.
Wanting more than two Saturday games against FBS opponents per season is unrealistic?

In reading this thread, it's clear a variety of viewpoints as to season tix are at work.

Mine? Until the mid-90s, my late wife Lynne and I enjoyed sitting on the student side and as near The 110 as possible.

After her disease struck in 1995 a change became necessary. She was beginning to weaken and the drugs that would keep her alive for 19 years didn't mix well with prolonged exposure to sunshine. Sooo, in 1996 or 97 I bought into the Tower Club. Shade. Elevator up to seats. Restrooms just steps away. Parking adjacent to Peden.

After she passed in January 2014 I pondered whether to keep those two TC seats or only 1. In the end, I decided to keep both. Why? I enjoy inviting folks to join me. I enjoy supporting the football program.

I'm not much concerned with the dearth of P-5 opponents on the home schedule. Heck, I even like some of the upcoming non-P-5 opponents.

I am wondering where my viewpoint puts me - in the minority or majority of Ohio fans??
I'm with you! Just happy the Bobcats are playing. Love when we get great opponents, but I will be there game day no matter who we play. Love football! Love my Bobcats even more!
This last statement is exactly what they were talked about in that article that I posted a few weeks ago. Fan "loyalty" allows programs to take advantage of their fans. For some, they no longer will accept being the battered spouse. I know that's a rather loose analogy but I think you get the point. The sad thing is that once you lose a person, it's doubly hard to get them back.

Alan, I agree entirely that it's difficult to "recapture" a lost fan. That said, I think you know I don't feel as though anyone is taking advantage of my fan loyalty.

Bobcat fans need to be realistic. If the likes of Iowa State, Minnesota, Kansas and Pitt are going to be on the home schedule yearly then it will cost plenty. I'm with the majority and would prefer to see teams like I mentioned above visit Athens every season, but realistically I know that won't happen. It is expensive to bring teams into Ohio University as some schools prefer not to fly into Columbus and make the 75 mile bus trip south. The teams that are willing to fly to Columbus, won't stay in Athens anyway, so they end up staying an hour or more drive away from the stadium. Many season ticket holders don't realize is that to get Power Five opponents, the ticket prices will be expensive. Looking ahead to the 2021 season when the Bearcats are scheduled to travel to Athens, what will that ticket price be? Don't be shocked if they buy/back out of that contract? In 2023 when Iowa State makes the trip to Peden, the ticket prices for that game will be approaching $50. Many of our fans are spoiled and refuse to pay premium prices for games. Nobody is a fan of the week night games that the MAC schedules. My suggestion is to complain to the league office. We all know what the league office will say.

With the way the MAC is scheduling, yes. It just might be.

Since I have to drive 3 + hours to attend a game, the day of the game, not the quality of the opponent, is the biggest factor. This year, I have 3 choices on weekends and two of them are on Homecoming and Parents weekend. And after years of battling homecoming crowds, I actually prefer to come down on a weekend where I can actually get into Jackie O's (now get off my lawn). If I want to spend a weekend in Athens, I want to be able to enjoy it without waiting hours for a beer. 3 weekend home games limits those options. So while I want a good crowd for the game, I don't want it so crowded that my options after the game are limited.

Wow, I realize after typing those sentences that it comes across as incredibly petty, but for me, that is a factor in choosing when/how to spend a weekend out of town.

This is reasonable to me, and not that dissimilar from my logic for not getting tickets. By the standards of this program we are hardcore fans, so I have to think sales are seeing a significant decline. I hope the TV money makes up for the lost ticket revenue.

It's just not that simple. Ticket revenue is a drop in the bucket considering our prices. Do any of you consider just the costs of putting on a division 1 football game? I bet ticket revenue doesn't even cover that. One big buyout game for us probably exceeds what we make in a season just on tickets. Look at the whole picture. We are a beggar, not a chooser when it comes to scheduling.

"We'd like to offer you and your wife the ability to go to three college football games this year for the low, low price of $800!"

"Do you have change for this $100,000 bill with Art Linkletter's face on it?"

At least we used to be able to throw in all the food and beer and wine you wanted for an addtional $100.
