That sounds right to me. Attendance box scores were lower last year. I talked with ticketing and they said they were below pace on renewals. They made a few changes this year. One was removal of the group sale discount as Mcbin and others discussed. Second is the because of tax deduction changes it has eliminated the ability to do promotional pricing within section 104-105 because they are sold at a premium relative to a regular ticket in the stadium. Only season ticket holders in 104-105 are permitted to buy extra tickets and those sections won't be sold on game days. The idea is that it will open up premium sections for more buyers. Instead of 14-20 discounted tickets in the cheap seats they buy 2-4 in the premium sections and pick up extra as the need them. If you have more premium buyers you have more donors to the OBC.
So pretty much our 50 yard line sections will be empty this season? That will look...interesting. No one will be buying in there. The chairback seats are terrible.
It could apply only to the chairbacks.

The apparent drop is not surprising on many counts:
Fewer Saturday home games and way too many weeknight games
No P-5 home game-even if last years P-5 was Kansas, no Marshall
Consequences of tax legislation
Fan burnout from continued losses to underdog teams
More TV games- both Ohio and others
Aging population of fans like me who are cutting back travel
Last minute scheduling of start times-making travel arrangements difficult
The athletic department reduced its coverage of the program. Evan Shaw had a lot of nice video productions. We've gone backwards in multimedia that last few seasons. Today's generation uses smartphone apps not home internet. ESPN deal ties our hands in a number of ways.

My wife received a call about renewing our tickets. Informed them we would not given there are only 3 Saturday games and only 2 Saturday FBS games. Was given the same line about MAC scheduling as if that would suddenly make us believe that the tickets to these three games were now worth the cost of season tickets.

She then received a follow up call from someone who thought it would be a good idea to threaten that we would not be able to get season tickets in the future due to a waiting list for ticket in our section. My wife reminded them that we have sat in the section since it was created and it is 70% empty most games and that at some games we have fans from the opposing team sit right behind us in this "premium" section. Also asked why they seemed desperate to get us to renew if they had so many people waiting for our tickets. No logical answer was given. I can come to no other conclusion than this person from the AD lied to try to get my wife to buy season tickets. Also reminded them that we move people out of our seats every game. This person stated that this is the year the will step up enforcement to keep people out of the seat they don't buy.

Based upon her interaction with this person in the AD it actually less likely that we would buy season tickets this year or in any subsequent year.

Had a similar conversation when I moved from the chairbacks to the family pack. It was pointed out that since there is a waiting list for all premium sections, chances are that I'd not be able to get my current seats back. That basic used car sales pitch 101 was somewhat offensive but in all fairmess, I'm guessing that the young person who made it was coached to do so.

Renewed my tickets yesterday because I enjoy procrastinating until the last possible moment.

My primary reason for purchasing season tickets is to support the program. This year’s home schedule is the least exciting since I became a season ticket holder... However, I consider scheduling P5 opponents the best case scenario, and we did that last year... Even if it was “just” Kansas. I’m not going to let the schedule any one year dictate my decision-making.

On he flip side, the Cincinnati game is as exciting as any road game we’ve played in recent years. While they don’t have the same prestige as Penn State or Tennessee, the fact they are in-state and we have a huge alumni population in the area more than makes up for it. That should be a phenomenal Bobcats crowd. It isn’t a home game, but I will be treating it as such.

I expect us to have a mighty good record coming into the stretch run of MAC play. I think I’ll be a proud season ticket holder when our offense is putting up 50 a game in November.

And people wonder why we can't advance as a program, because you're all looking for sad excuses to not renew your tickets. And you're going to punish the program because someone tried to sell you something by telling you there was demand. The tickets are as valuable as you make them.

Another factor here is the staffing of the athletic department. There is constant turnover there since the pay level dictates most of these jobs as stepping stones. It’s tough to build consistency. There’s been a big fall off since Drake was forced out. His local ties probably made him more accepting of the pay level and deisre to be there long term.

The tickets are as valuable as the product on the field.

And while one can argue that the home team has put a better product on the field, one can also argue that the caliber of visiting teams hasn't been impressive and that game-day atmosphere has diminished for several reasons, most of all only 3 Saturday games.

Label those who don't see things as you do as "Nancies", but it doesn't change the fact that there are Bobcat fans deciding for various reasons not to renew their season tickets.

Hey, I'm with you on the three saturdays thing. that's total crap. Direct your ire to the MAC commissioner though.

And we were a top scoring offense last year and look to be again this year, right? Product on the field? How can you even say that? Schedule? We've had a IAA/FCS school on our schedule 9 of every 10 years since the beginning of time! This is not anything new. Getting a power 5 school to Athens COSTS the program money! So you can start ponying up more money for tickets, or live with these buyout games. Everyone wants to complain, but no one has any ideas for generating more revenue and you all shit your drawers if they dare raise prices, which are probably in the bottom 10% of FBS football if I had to guess.

I waited until the last possible day. Got the letter that I'd be getting a free set basketball tickets to make up for the lack of Saturday games. My guess that it's just combination of everything mentioned. Plus, other than a handful of time since Solich arrived, I've been able to sit anywhere I want in Peden so I've never felt I "had to" own season tickets, it's just conventient if you go to multiple games and like to bring friends and family.

Middle Tennessee season ticket prices for comparison. They play mostly Saturday games and manage to bring in a P5 every other year, some times back to back years. Just sharing for $$$ comparison and home schedule. Only five home games this year.

If they are bad this year it's not going to get any better with the home schedules they have lined up in the immediate future. Cincinnati doesn't return to Peden until 2021 and the next Power 5 School is Iowa State in 2023.

Next year's home schedule is once again bad, but I like the road trips to Marshall and Pitt. Both are intriguing opponents and both are in easy driving range for the fanbase. The following year we get Marshall at home which I prefer over mediocre-P5 teams... Marshall and a P5 home game sure would be cool.

I don't know all the details of why we aren't playing Marshall every year (rotating who is home) and to be honest I don't really care what the details are. That's a short-sighted move, from both the Ohio perspective and the Marshall perspective. A good rivalry game is mutually beneficial as it energizes the fanbase and immediately fills one OOC slot with a game people care about.

I like UC, Pitt and Virginia on our schedules. I do not get excited with Marshall. I'm fine if we play them, but it is nothing to get excited about.

I got the same spiel. Interestingly, no one even tried to sell me a family pack or any other lesser ticket package once I articulated my reasons for declining. At this point, I'll probably just ask people on here if they have a pair of tickets to sell for one of the two home games I can actually attend this year.

I gotta believe this schedule is putting a financial dent in the program. That's sad, but speaking for myself, the MAC found my pain threshold. I'm not getting season tickets to see a solitary FBS game (I can't make the other one) and watch 5,800 people shiver on TV a bunch of weeknights.

I'm actually starting to see why the Sun Belt went the ESPN+ route for programming. If I recall, most of their games will remain on Saturdays but they'll have to pay the $5/month fee to see their games on TV. Given Ohio's scheduling situation and the MAC/ESPN deal to put games on during the middle of the week, I think I would take the former.

App State - 10 Saturdays, 1 Tuesday, 1 Thursday (6 Saturday home games)

Ark State - 10 Saturdays, 1 Tuesday, 1 Thursday (4 Saturday home games, 1 Tuesday, 1 Thursday)

Troy - 10 Saturdays, 1 Tuesday, 1 Thursday (5 Saturday home games, 1 Thursday)

South Bama - 10 Saturdays, 1 Tuesday, 1 Friday (4 Saturday home games, 1 Tuesday, 1 Friday)

Why? I've never viewed them as such. I only hear this from a handful of people on this board. When I talk with season ticket holders around me, no one ever mentions Marshall.

In reading this thread, it's clear a variety of viewpoints as to season tix are at work.

Mine? Until the mid-90s, my late wife Lynne and I enjoyed sitting on the student side and as near The 110 as possible.

After her disease struck in 1995 a change became necessary. She was beginning to weaken and the drugs that would keep her alive for 19 years didn't mix well with prolonged exposure to sunshine. Sooo, in 1996 or 97 I bought into the Tower Club. Shade. Elevator up to seats. Restrooms just steps away. Parking adjacent to Peden.

After she passed in January 2014 I pondered whether to keep those two TC seats or only 1. In the end, I decided to keep both. Why? I enjoy inviting folks to join me. I enjoy supporting the football program.

I'm not much concerned with the dearth of P-5 opponents on the home schedule. Heck, I even like some of the upcoming non-P-5 opponents.

I am wondering where my viewpoint puts me - in the minority or majority of Ohio fans??

This last statement is exactly what they were talked about in that article that I posted a few weeks ago. Fan "loyalty" allows programs to take advantage of their fans. For some, they no longer will accept being the battered spouse. I know that's a rather loose analogy but I think you get the point. The sad thing is that once you lose a person, it's doubly hard to get them back.

There are a lot of unreal expectations of our fan base as to what teams we can bring here. There is not a lot of money, we have a small stadium and our base is very fickle. I do not see many P5 teams lining up to come here.

If we keep buying a product that is delivering reduced value (poor schedule, including inaccessible weeknight games), there's no incentive for the provider to improve. Similar to my father's inexplicable loyalty to Chrysler vehicles throughout the 1970s, '80s and '90s. Godawful cars, nothing but headaches.
