These are the scholarship guys I don't see on the roster.

RS-FR OT Jylton Tusha
RS-SO WR Matt Seymour
RS-SO MLB Andrew Cree
RS-JR DE Keith Key

Could be an error that they were excluded.

I think Tusha is ok....not sure about the others...I worry about Seymour since he’s Canadian and on Canada Day they only mentioned Irons and Rourke.

Someone in a different thread mentioned Tusha was nursing an injury...I hope it didn't end his career.

I found the same list, plus a few walkons who are gone
RS-Fr LS David Bryan
Rs-Fr K AJ Smith
Rs-Fr S Gabe Lyons

I also found some new walkons:
85 Fr TE Mason Bernhardt 6-5 212
18 Fr S Isaac Gill
59 Fr LB Ryan Grooms 6-2 235
52 ?? DE Bruce Dugan 6-1 230
33 R-Jr LS Devin King 6-0 240

If those 4 are gone, I presume some walkons will get scholarships, at least for this year. Some of the candidates include, with my guess as to their position on the depth chart in parentheses:
Linemen Irland R-Fr (3), Sink R-So (3), Rodgers R-Fr (3)
RB - Burroughs R-Sr (4), Neatherton R-Fr (5)
WR - DL Knock Jr (2), Markel Davis R-Jr (3)
DB - Cameron Gunnels R-Sr, Jarren Hampton So(2), Tyler Gullet R-Sr (1/2)
LB - Clack R-Jr (2)
DL - Chukwu (3)R-Jr, Payne R-Jr (1)

From this, my guess is that the winners will be four of these: Payne (could start at DT), Gullet (could start at WLB), Knock (backup WR), Clack (backup MLB), and Hampton (backup Safety)

One other note is that the Roster continues to list Kuhar as a Redshirt Junior, the same as last year. This is his fifth year with the program, so he has to be a Senior.

Also Ryan Grooms can not be a freshman. He played 2015,16 & 17 as a Tiffin Dragon. Should have one or two to play one. Not sure.

The Philo Electrics is a good one; but, I don't think I've ever seen one as good as the Poca, W.Va., mascot name.

I agree with your scholarship candidates other than Gullet. I don’t see him starting unless we have multiple injuries at linebacker. Plus the only reps he’s had was at strong side. Payne is turning into a good one on the DL. Clack, Knock and Hampton should all see the field this season.

I’m under the mindset that Gullett will play a ton. I’m not sure if he starts in base sets but he wil at least be a new nickel LB. The staff loved Chad Moore he gave them a lot of flexibility. I can see them trying to recreate that to an extent with him.

When they first put up a new roster, there are usually errors. There are at least two things that appear to be errors in this Roster, listing Ryan Grooms as a Freshman, and listing Kuhar as a Redshirt-Junior, so it isn't a stretch to think that there could be others.

You would know how he's working out better than I would. Sometimes a big Safety who moves to LB becomes a star, and sometimes it doesn't work out at all. I hadn't heard one way or the other how Gullet was working out. The other logic for giving a scholarship to Gullet, if he's been a hard worker for a long time, is that he's a Senior, and if they give it to a Senior, they can give it out again for the recruiting class of 2019.

The interesting thing about Clack, if he earns a scholarship, is that he was trained and recommended to Ohio by the same person that sent Ouellette. They should keep in touch with that guy.

When I lived and worked in West Virginia, I drove by Poca High School every day. It was on the Kanawha River not far from my chemical plant. I always thought that the Poca Dots was the coolest mascot name for a high school team.

Someone mentioned that he was not noted in the Ohio football Canada Day Twitter post a little while ago. But one of his teammates seemed to kind of tease him that he was left off. So maybe the athletic department for some reason keeps overlooking him?

Edit: Arkley says he's correctly not on the roster.

Arkley confirmed that these four guys are no longer on the team. Cornerback Jaylen Morgan also was a scholarship player who is gone. None of them had played much at all in their time at Ohio, with injury a factor for most of them.

You’re right about him being a senior. I had forgotten that. I hope he does get one. He has worked hard and deserves it. What I should have said is I don’t see him starting weak side over Popp or Croutch. But he was the only player I saw who I thought could back Conner up on the strong side if needed. I could see Brunson or Robinson backing up weak side. Brunson has improved and Robinson can close downhill and thump some dudes if he can continue to learn the defense. I’m looking forward to fall camp. If this young but talented defense can come together, and our offense can stay healthy, it will be a great season. I think we could win back to back MACC’s. Next years team will be better than this years.

I graduated from Philo High School many years ago. The school got its nickname from a power plant (long since closed down) in the village.

I've been away for a long time, but from what I hear from back home he was an incredible athlete on both sides of the ball, and I think he was Division IV First Team All-Ohio as a DB. He led the Electrics to back-to-back playoff appearances his junior and senior years, making it to the regional finals last year.

I do not see next years team easily replacing Lowery, Anderson, Oullette, Irons, White, Brown, Crouch, Nelson & possibly Hagan. Five of these will have been multiple year All MAC.

Running back is the only future position that I worry about.

It’s gonna be difficult to replace Irons and Ouellette.

OL should be ok with Pleasants...Meservy...Kitrell... and a great OL recruiting class this year.

Last years class had decent linebackers and DBs so I think we will be ok there.
