Don’t know much about some of the walk ons ...but I do know S Isaac Gill is a preferred walk on....he might be a good one...6’1”-185 and a QB and WR and S in high school...from one of the greatest high school mascot names....The Philo Electrics....shocking isn’t it.
yep, and they play the Crooksville Ceramics.

Speaking of charged up nicknames, I attended Charles F. Brush High School in Lyndhurst, east of Cleveland. Mr. Brush perfected the arclight, so naturally our nickname was the arcs. Our mascot was--and I kid you not--Ready Kilowatt, although we called him Arcy. Ready Kilowatt was a character used in advertising by the Cleveland Electric Illuminating Co.

Sorry to bore you with this. But it's a good excuse for me to delay doing my therapy exercises that are supposed to help my broken ankle heal.

Maybe the team wasn't named after the vehicle, but I believe the Jeep vehicle was named after the Popeye comic strip character"Eugene the Jeep".

Ready Kilowatt has an interesting story all his own:

Wow! I played with a pitcher named Brian Mann from Brush. I don't recall the full name being used but I assume it's the same HS? If a team faced him for the 1st time, they pretty much had no chance. As I recall, he was 28-1 in his HS years.

Yes, Crooksville is a well-known pottery center.

Crooksville was Philo's football rival when I was in school. Well, actually it was the other way around. Crooksville's big rival was the village of Roseville, which was also a well-known producer of pottery and also only 5-10 miles away from Crooksville. Roseville was part of the Philo school district, though it was geographically much closer to Crooksville than Philo. When we would go to Crooksville for football games, the Ceramics fans would have signs that said, "Go Crooksville! Beat Roseville!" Philo was just incidental to the entire rivalry.

I honestly think Seymour is still there. His tweeter says he is at least haha

When they first put up a new roster, there are usually errors. There are at least two things that appear to be errors in this Roster, listing Ryan Grooms as a Freshman, and listing Kuhar as a Redshirt-Junior, so it isn't a stretch to think that there could be others.

From this, my guess is that the winners will be four of these: Payne (could start at DT), Gullet (could start at WLB), Knock (backup WR), Clack (backup MLB), and Hampton (backup Safety)
I agree with your scholarship candidates other than Gullet. I don’t see him starting unless we have multiple injuries at linebacker. Plus the only reps he’s had was at strong side. Payne is turning into a good one on the DL. Clack, Knock and Hampton should all see the field this season.

You would know how he's working out better than I would. Sometimes a big Safety who moves to LB becomes a star, and sometimes it doesn't work out at all. I hadn't heard one way or the other how Gullet was working out. The other logic for giving a scholarship to Gullet, if he's been a hard worker for a long time, is that he's a Senior, and if they give it to a Senior, they can give it out again for the recruiting class of 2019.

The interesting thing about Clack, if he earns a scholarship, is that he was trained and recommended to Ohio by the same person that sent Ouellette. They should keep in touch with that guy.

You’re right about him being a senior. I had forgotten that. I hope he does get one. He has worked hard and deserves it. What I should have said is I don’t see him starting weak side over Popp or Croutch. But he was the only player I saw who I thought could back Conner up on the strong side if needed. I could see Brunson or Robinson backing up weak side. Brunson has improved and Robinson can close downhill and thump some dudes if he can continue to learn the defense. I’m looking forward to fall camp. If this young but talented defense can come together, and our offense can stay healthy, it will be a great season. I think we could win back to back MACC’s. Next years team will be better than this years.
I do not see next years team easily replacing Lowery, Anderson, Oullette, Irons, White, Brown, Crouch, Nelson & possibly Hagan. Five of these will have been multiple year All MAC.
Running back is the only future position that I worry about.

It’s gonna be difficult to replace Irons and Ouellette.

OL should be ok with Pleasants...Meservy...Kitrell... and a great OL recruiting class this year.

Last years class had decent linebackers and DBs so I think we will be ok there.
I'd agree Doc that the major concern is RB for next year. One plus is coaches are high on 2018 recruit O’Shaan Allison, going so far as to say he was their number 1 RB target in 2018 recruiting at rb. Wonder if Ohio will go Juco for a player there?

I'm much more optimistic on the promise of the 2016-2019 (so far) classes, particularly on defense. Whether any of those classes will be as good as 2013 (Poling, Chad Moore, Basham, Dorian Brown, Mason Morgan, Sayles, Mangen, Cope, Wood, Aloese, Porter, and trent Smart) remains to be seen but could be better. But I think 2016-2019 together, we really have something on defense. I think in a within the next 0-2 years this defense will be pretty sweet. For the younger people we saw last year, I'm betting strongly LB Connor, CBS Brooks and Hudson, and DE Evans will be impact players. And I wouldnt count out that dude that switched from TE to DE last year if he still plays DE. Cant wait to see how it plays out.

I agree with both of you about RB. That’s my biggest concern for next year. AJ and Maleek will be missed. And the four young guys you foresee as impact players look ready to oblige. Evans can definitely rush the edge and Conner is going to open some eyes this season at linebacker. I was impressed with Brooks and Hudson last season and expect them to play with more confidence this year. We will have two experienced safeties as well. All in all I think our defense will be better than a lot of folks expect.

I agree - the defense will be good this year, and next year will be exceptional. This year the offense will be exceptional, and next year will be good. Both teams should be the best teams yet under Solich. I hope the team has a bit of a chip on it's shoulder over the losses to Akron and Buffalo last year, and they come to play this fall with confidence, and with an attitude, just as they did against UAB. They can go 12-0 this fall, but they can't let up, ever.

Any worries about our pass rush this year?

Yes, of course. The problem is the unknowns. Which of the untested Freshmen and/or Sophomores will step up? If some do then Ohio will be fine. If not, there may be a lot of MACtion.

Portis seems to be a power back and he has decent size. He doesn't have any flashy moves and doesn't quite have the speed yet but maybe that'll change but yet again, you don't need to be flashy if you run through everybody

Wolff played at Zane Trace in highschool which is in the same conference as my former high school so I've heard his name some. A couple of buddies of mine said he's a decent athlete though. I don't think he played college ball right out of highschool
