It would appear odds makers were not impressed with Cincinnati last Saturday. I'm going to the Maryland-BG game, hope it is better then this line.

Maryland at BG, huh? When's the last time a Big Ten school came to Peden?

Peden schedules are getting better with Louisiana, Marshall, Cincinnati, Florida Atlantic, Iowa State all coming to Peden the next 5 years. Out is Idaho, New Mexico St and UMass series.

I'm kind of surprised BG is only getting 16 in that game, with Maryland just having upset Texas. Buffalo getting 4.5 against a Temple team that just lost to an FCS team is interesting too.

The Cincy/Fiami line is just dumb.

When EMU gave the ball away with about 5 minutes to go and trailing 19-17, I thought they'd lost another close one. But they got the ball back and played with poise to pull it out as time expired. Glad for the Eagles and their fans.

And so far Ball State’s only down 7-3 to Notre Dame in the 2nd quarter.

Michigan trucks WMU 49-3, Akron up on Morgan State 27-0 at halftime, Buffalo up on Temple 12-7 at the half, and finally, Kent is crushing Howard 26-0 with about 4 minutes left before the half. Yea, the same powerhouse Howard team that basically whipped our secondary like a rented mule last Saturday. I know it is only one week into the season, but what I saw last Saturday in Peden gives me serious concern. Right now I do not see us even as a contender in the MAC East let alone anything else. I hope I am wrong.

Ball States defense is playing incredible. With that INT they may have time to come back.

That missed field goal is most likely the dagger. Well played by Ball state. After seeing how well they played today, it will be interesting to see how they do the rest of this year.

I don't know what to think of this years addition of our Bobcats. Based on what I watched today around the MAC, I'm not too excited for us right now. Unless the competition has become weaker, I see a ton of physical athletic players on EMU, Buffalo and Ball. I did not see the same Howard team today against Kant.

I will be dual screening NIU and Fiami tonight.

We will see boys.

We were super super vanilla last week, I think. I don't know if that was by design or necessity. I'm hoping design. There were a lot of new pieces in place on defense, and I think maybe everyone was looking ahead to Virginia a bit too much.

Kent came to play this week. They definitely had more energy vs. Howard than we did.

And so far BGSU is beating Maryland. The only blemish is CMU getting waxed by Kansas. Ouch for CMU.

The MAC even got some love from Mike Tirico on NBC's Notre Dame coverage (both Ball State and Eastern Michigan.) Ball State certainly looks better than advertised. They can certainly move the ball. Honestly, I don't know how Eastern does it. They hardly have any internal support and they dispatch a Big Ten team. BG seems to be catching Maryland napping after their Texas upset. Sans CMU's debacle, it seems like a good day for the MAC!

EMU dispatched a big 10 team for the second straight year, beating Rutgers in 2017.

As far as Tirico and his partner, Doug Flutie, I came away thinking their compliments of Ball St. were daggers thrown at the MAC. Stuff like the Cardinals are certainly better than what most have predicted of them this fall (6th in the MAC West). Or that they'll definitely win more than 2 games (their 2017 win total) this year playing in the MAC. They could very well be correct on both counts, but I took it as swipes at how weak they think the MAC is.

Last year's bottom teams, Kent and Ball State, have obviously improved dramatically. Parity comes to the MAC. It could be a crazy season, where any team could beat any other.

To be fair, the MAC is (or has been) weak. One bowl win in two years will do that.

Plus Howard didn't try any trick plays like they did with us early in last week's game. Maybe they figured Kent was ready for it. Looks like Howard played a pretty vanilla offense, and when they do that Newton isn't nearly as effective. He wound up with only about 200 total yds, and because he's 80% of Howeard's offense, they just couldn't do much.

Oh well things went south in a hurry for Bowling Green in the 2nd half. As for Mike Tirico's comments about the MAC, I took them to be complimentary toward Ball State and especially Eastern Michigan. Hopefully, we can lead the MAC charge in taking it to a Power 5 school next week!

Here's how the MAC has fared against OOC competition (year-to-date totals in parentheses):

1AA: 2-0 (7-0)
G5: 1-1 (1-2)
"P5"*: 1-5 (1-10)
*-- including ND

I watched the Kent/Howard game on ESPN+ yesterday. Howard did not play a "vanilla" offense, Kent took away the middle and put great pressure on Newton (Howard's QB). Secondly, Kent played a very physical game and owned the trenches. I was also in Peden to watch OUr game with Howard. Comparing the two games, we have a very LONG way to go to be competitive. I am now glad we had this bye week. Hopefully we can right the ship. If we go to Virginia and UC and play like we did in the Howard game, it will be ugly. Finally, I also watched parts of the UMass/Georgia Southern game. UMass is that bad.
